  1. Setting:
  2. In the year 2XXX, the Medicina building looms over the bustling heart of the USA, Dubuque, Iowa.(Which has inexplicably exploded into one of the world's economic superpowers within the past century.) Despite the wealth and prosperity its citizens live in, all is still not well within the Iowa-Illinois-Wisconsin tri-state area. Many of the future's blessings have inspired more convoluted acts of greed among the country's most dangerous criminals, disasters such as conflagration and malfunctioning machinery still runs rampant, and mysterious creatures known as "Aberrants" threaten the very thought of peace as we know it.
  3. This is where the Medicina ACF comes in. Just one of many peacekeeping forces employed by the IACI (International Aberrant Chasing Intelligence), the Medicina represents the finest in human technological advances in defense and crime prevention. Despite this, it's fallen on some hard times recently, and is now relatively understaffed on recruits. This is where you come in. (Or at least, where you would come in if certain DISAAASTER hadn't struck, more on that soon.)
  4.
  5.
  6. Aberrants:
  7. Few have any leads as to what they are or what they want with us. What little we know about them isn't even close to being disclosed to anyone but the highest ranking officials.
  8. What we do know, however, is that they're dangerous. Aberrants, no matter what they may initially seem, are deemed a threat to humanity, both organic and mechanical, and are to be dealt with accordingly by the proper authorities.
  9. Despite this, Aberrants are incredibly varied in scope, and not all of them are inherently threatening. They're most likely not even all the same species. Because of this, Aberrants are classified into ranks by the IACI:
  10. E Rank Aberrants are not only completely harmless in every way, they don't even have the potential to act as a possible threat if they tried. This rank is usually reserved for unusual objects or severely crippled organisms that nonetheless exhibit unusual properties linked to Aberrant behavior.
  11. D Rank Aberrants don't express any harmful intent, and act just like a peaceful human or animal would. Nonetheless, they do have the potential to cause harm and destruction if they suddenly have a change of heart, or in some cases, become aware of their situation.
  12. C Rank Aberrants are more likely to cause destruction and express misanthropic behavior. Yet, in one way or another, they aren't deemed threatening quite enough to be classified as B Ranks.
  13. B Rank Aberrants are the most common types; These Aberrant live only for carnage and destruction, or so they appear, and have more than enough power to carry that out.
  14. The gap between A Rank Aberrant and B Ranks is quite considerable, and for good reason. An A Rank is typically colossal in size, capable of leveling city buildings and wiping out entire blocks. The power of an A rank typically far exceeds that of an average Chasing Frame, and thus taking one out is a far more difficult and dangerous process which requires precise organization and planning.
  15. S Rank Aberrants are thankfully a hypothetical concept for now, but if one does arrive, the threat it would pose to humanity would be nearly apocalyptic in scale.
  16.
  17.
  18. Chasing Frames:
  19. Before the development of Chasing Frames, taking down a single B Rank Aberrant was a difficult and dangerous process that on average resulted in 30 casualties. But never underestimate humanity's uncanny ability to adapt. Within a few generations of research and scientific progress, the world's top minds bound together to produce the most hardened warriors known to mankind, capable of fighting on equal footing with the Aberrant threat. CFs come in two forms: a complex arrangement of machinery of varying sizes utilized by humans, or machines/alt. Humans created with the sole purpose of confronting powerful abominations.
  20. Despite their intentions, Chasing Frames are still commonly used to prevent other sorts of disasters and to put a halt to extreme criminal activity.
  21.
  22. Variables and Alternative Humans:
  23. These are the politically correct terms for advanced mechanical beings, with Alternative Humans essentially being androids indistinguishable from humans, and Variables being more obviously mechanical constructions that still nonetheless posses human-level AI. The creation of perfect human AI is still a relatively recent thing with a long string of history behind it, so machines do still face some discrimination among certain human groups. Nonetheless, these beings are still officially classified as being part of the human race, collectively.
  24. Despite how advanced they are, these machines still aren't quite perfect. On occasion, due to a glitch in the system caused by rare errors, malicious viruses, or by virtue of being built with cheaper parts to cut costs, the robots can occasionally go haywire and act out dangerously unpredictable behavior. Machines under this sort of phenomenon are referred to as "Irregular AIs" or IAIs, and are treated with the same amount of force to be applied upon a C or B class Aberrant.
