I kinda liked the original idea, where they were just a bunch of fundamentalists who began to herd around Charlie because of her angelic appearance, built a mini chapel (mountain of crosses style, á la Lithuania), and just creep everyone out, while rejecting Gospel for looking like the devil.
But this could a good later addition to them - we did kinda sent them to war with the Wasteland Orks, after all.
Whoever's left probably realized that things aren't quite what they seem in Hell.
This could be the character development of the remainder."
