  1. Q. Is SNES classic allowed for the leaderboard?
  2. A. Yes. Just choose 'SNES Classic Mini' under Platform when submitting a run.
  3.
  4. Q. What about the Nintendo Switch?
  5. A. Yes. Just choose 'Switch' under Platform when submitting a run.
  6.
  7. Q. Can I play online with my friend on Nintendo Switch and submit co-op runs to the leaderboard?
  8. A. Yes. Such categories are on the extension leaderboard. Again choose 'Switch' under Platform when submitting a run.
  9.
  10. Q. Can I speedrun on the SMW version that comes with the SNES Classic or the Nintendo Switch.
  11. A. Yes, although the 'U' version that is included will lose a small amount of time during S&Q dialogs vs the 'J' version.
  12.
  13. Q. If I am in the EU or Australia, will SMW on my SNES Classic or Nintendo Switch be PAL?
  14. A. No, they both comes with the 'U' version and run at 60 frames per second in all regions.
  15.
  16. Q. Can I upload the 'J' version to my SNES Classic?
  17. A. Yes, most people use a tool called Hackchi to allow them to upload custom ROMs to their system.
  18.
  19. Q. Does the practice ROM work on the SNES Classic?
  20. A. Yes. Version 3.0 should work. If you have any trouble with that then download version 2.5 and use a hex editor to change offset 0x81D8 from 07 to 05 and that should also work.
  21.
  22. Q. Can I upload the 'J' version or the practice ROM to my Nintendo Switch?
  23. A. Yes, this is also possible but less straightforward and carries more risk. Look up guides for jailbreaking your Switch.
  24.
  25. Q. Can I use an original SNES Controller on a SNES Classic?
  26. A. Yes, but you need an adaptor.
  27.
  28. Q. What controller works well for the Nintendo Switch?
  29. A. Nintendo have released their own brand of SNES controller specifically for the Switch in certain regions. Failing that, the 8-BitDo SN30 is a decent SNES controller and the Nintendo Switch Pro controller is adequate although the d-pad is not as good and you may find the layout awkward.
  30.
  31. Q. Does the Orb glitch work on SNES Classic or Nintendo Switch?
  32. A. Yes.
  33.
  34. Q. Does the Cloud glitch work on SNES Classic or Nintendo Switch?
  35. A. No, there are no known setups.
  36.
  37. Q. What is the input lag like on SNES Classic or Nintendo Switch?
  38. A. Your TV or monitor is by far the biggest component of input lag. But for the console itself, it is slightly worse that original console and slightly better than most emulator setups. For the Nintendo Switch, the wireless controllers may add an additional bit of lag but it still plays very similarly to the SNES Classic.
  39.
  40. Q. How much slower does the SNES Classic run than the original console?
  41. A. On average you will lose roughly 0.2s on an 11-Exit run and 1.8s on a 96-Exit run.
  42.
  43. Q. How much slower does the Nintendo Switch run than the original console?
  44. A. I don't believe any detailed timing has been done but expect it to be similar to the SNES Classic.
  45.
  46. Q. Does the SNES Classic count as an emulator?
  47. A. The SNES Classic is essentially a simple Unix operating system which runs an emulator called 'Canoe' which was developed by Nintendo. Because it is an official release, it gets its own platform when submitting a run. It is possible to upload another emulator onto the system (eg. RetroArch) in which case we treat it as the same as an emulator that runs on your computer.
  48.
  49. Q. Does the Nintendo Switch count as an emulator?
  50. A. It is believed to also use a version of the Canoe emulator under the hood.
