In year 2010, Dragons reemerged from their slumber deep in earth's core.

A great struggle between the former ruler of the known world and human, the then ruler of the known world started. First, negotiation. Then, heated debate. Then, a Dragon breathed literal flame on the debate table.

In year 2012, the war between Dragons and mankind had drawn to a new height, as nations launch various nuclear devices at the different Dragons. Some fled toward the moon, others took refuge deep into the ocean. Still others lies dead, the ashes of their bodies combined with nuclear fallout and death curse left a permanent blight upon the world.

Honestly, that wasn't too bad, now that we looked back at it.

Around that time, a new computer virus emerged on the internet. It seems to be a combination of traditional computer virus and a strain of thaumaturgical curse. The effect was simple - it passively teaches the end user knowledge of the arcane, via establishing a neural link between a certain amount of infected individuals, "sparking" their mage talents base on an ancient, mythic link. The computer virus, later known as The Awakening, came from an unknown source, though conspiracy theorists generally agree for it to be government origin - a "weapon" meant to create super soldiers via simple process of granting them supernatural abilities observed in the Dragons during the Dragon War.

A computer virus capable of making any common person into a mage? What's funny isn't that. What's funny is the speed it propagated - in under 24 hours, over 80% of human population was exposed to the Awakening. Chaos ensued, between the rampant misuse of newfound power, crime and riot got out of control, militia of nascent mages snuffing each other out with extreme prejudice, and finally the eventual military taking action to suppress the magical riot.

And that was just he beginning. The Awakening mutated base on mankind's desire. It formed and shaped the imaginations of its hosts into reality. From the depth of imagination, mythological creatures were released upon the world - stuff of legends, becoming known colloquially as the Demons.

That complicated things. The Demons weren't under anyone's control, and some are just as strong, if not stronger, than the Dragons. Those with a friendly frame of mind allied with what few lucky human summoners. Those not so lucky are quickly devoured, their magical energy generated from Awakening consumed to fuel the Demons own summoning rituals.
