personality: have you ever touched something so cold, that it's hot? that's how you would describe hideo's personality. unable to open up to others, many may think that he just despises everyone and everything. hideo even comes off as intimidating and scary at times. don't worry, its not because he doesn't want to approach you, it's that no one approaches him. maybe it's because of his resting bitch face that screams,"go away, i don't want to talk to you." and his lack of social experience results in him shriveling at the thought of contact with others. in addition to his reserved nature, hideo is also very serious, calm and collected. jokes were never jokes if you told them to hideo, and he would take everything seriously, especially when the the two words,"no offense" were attached to the end of it. this is because he is very insecure about himself after an unforgettable eye injury. although he may seem uninterested about other's well-being, hideo actually is the best out of all of the members of the aeri family at taking care of others. whenever someone gets hurt or suddenly becomes ill, his doctor instincts, no, almost like his maternal instincts, just engulfs his brain and he immediately goes over to help. gentle hands, worried eyes, and that million dollar smile are the three most prominent things that you'll notice from even a mile away when you spot him giving medical assistance to others. no wonder he's the doctor of the family. once you get to know him, and he finally opens up to you, you'll be exposed to his dorky and adorable side. figurines are scattered across his room, impossible for anyone not to notice.

background: born in osaka,japan, hideo aeri was the most ordinary boy ever. at the age of 6, he and his family moved to hiraizumi, a small town, with a total population of 7,976 people. his parents had told him that they had found a new job there, and he believed them. but in reality, his mother, not a member of the zodiac was afraid. she thought that he would scare everyone off when he would turn into a seahorse. so, he lived happily saying "hi" to everyone he saw. a ginormous smile plastered on his face twenty-four seven. then, ten years passed. his dad left for some reason, and things were going to get worse. hideo and his mother had gotten into an argument about how he had accidentally changed into his true form. nipping and biting with her sharp words, the one word that hideo was hoping that would never out of her mouth did. "you're a monster." he was so stunned that he couldn't move or speak. his own mother, afraid of her own child. all he wanted was her support. all he needed was for her to embrace him for who he was. and that was all gone. for ten years, he was living a lie. those "i love you's" were just a dream. a dream that he would never experience ever again. or so he thought. that day, he had ran away to look for the other zodiacs, or people that would love for who he was. he'd found himself living in with the ox zodiac and the boar zodiac. oh, how terrible it was. always bickering and nagging, the three were quite the bunch. not long after, the ox had brought his new girlfriend home. and she was beautiful. her name was kaiyo fukumoto. kaiyo would come over everyday, and sooner or later, she and hideo fell in love. of course, the ox zodiac didn't know. well, until the boar zodiac caught them making out behind the house the three shared. slick, very slick hideo. and the ox was furious, black. from then on, there was always tension in the house. but still, hideo and kaiyo were always together. they loved each other, even if kaiyo knew that hideo could possibly turn into a seahorse if they hugged. hideo was happy for once. he didn't ever want to let go of this feeling. this feeling of warmth, as if he was floating on clouds. and that would make the ox blacker than black. the next day he finally snapped. he basically had smoke coming out of both his ears. cheeks red and eyes swollen, he had the courage to tell the god what had been happening between the two. the god too, had became furious. after calling for a family meeting, the god had instructed hideo to erase kaiyo's memories. hideo, of course, refused. this would lead to a very heated argument and a vase to the eye. it was obvious who had won the quarrel. so, hideo unwillingly erased kaiya's memories. "it was for the better," the god said. ever since then, he would be self conscious about the scar that had formed around his eye and wouldn't open up to anyone, afraid, he'd loose them, like he did kaiya. oh, and i can't forget that the ox zodiac and hideo haven't talked to each other since after he moved out, leaving hideo with the boar zodiac. locked up in his room, he would have nothing else to do. so, he studied, and studied, and studied. soon after, he had known enough to be the family doctor. incredible right?

home: hideo would rather live in a house shared with the boar zodiac and the newest addition, the rat zodiac because he wouldn't want to coincidentally face the other members.

which zodiac do you get along with the most?: the rat zodiac would the the zodiac that hideo would get along with the best. at first, the rat zodiac really didn't enjoy the company of the boar and hideo but, after a couple of months living in the house they shared, the rat zodiac felt that he needed hideo. after almost burning the house down while trying do make miso soup, hideo marched in and saved the day. and ever since then, the rat zodiac was treated like a baby that needed to be protected at all times. but to be honest, the rat zodiac was actually a baby. whining twenty four seven, he would drive hideo nuts sometimes. you can't forget about the occasional nerf gun wars to decide who does the laundry. their relationship is kind of like a big brother, little brother, peanut butter and jelly, michael scott and dwight schrute. oh, there are so many dynamic duos that you can compare the rat and seahorse to.

which zodiac do you get along with the worst?: the ox zodiac would be the zodiac that hideo would get along with the worst. a very long time ago, they were the best of friends. but after an incident involving the both of them, they cut all ties with each other. whenever they were around each other, the ox zodiac would always be black, behaving recklessly, and impulsively. always, giving each other the death stare, it was very obvious that the two weren't on the greatest terms. each other's backs were the only body part they would come face to when meeting each other. can't forget about the silent treatment that would last a lifetime. even if they wanted to ask each other how their day was going, they would always remember what had happened that dreadful day and keep their traps shut. the boar zodiac is constantly trying to bring the two closer so they could have the same relationship as all those years ago.

occupation: hideo works at home. a compromise that everyone wants. he manages all of the zodiacs yearly check ups (yes, even the ox zodiac, although he hates it will all of his tiny seahorse heart), and just perscribes medicine to the aeri family. to make some extra cash to pay off bills and other necessities, hideo takes jobs at smaller clinics as a nurse. [that shades of red reference tho,, 2jae :')]

zodiac color: even if hideo has the dullest personality, the color of his bony plates is quite the opposite. the base color of his exo-skeleton is a red brighter than the sun. his skin also has blotchy purple accents scattered over it. many have to cover their eyes when witnessing his transformation.

how they act around you: aika is very considerate and understands what hideo is going through, despite not knowing about him turning into a seahorse. she's the bubbliest person you'll ever meet, but at the same time will go through phases where she'll just sit there and contemplate over the littlest things. they needed each other. aika also worries that something that she will say or do will scare him off. for example, saying something related to his dark past and greatly offending him. so instead, she'll always greet him with an, "are you hungry?" or "dinner's ready!" although the two didn't really communicate, you can tell that aika really cares about hideo because she will usually do things for hideo before herself, even if he didn't notice and thanked her for it. aika was just happy that he's okay and that he let her into his life. it was obvious that he had a lot of trouble opening up to others, so she was thankful that she was one of those special people that would be able to play a big part in his life. aika also lived for his smile. a rare, but beautiful sight. bringing light into his isolated world was her priority.

how you act around them: he really struggled at first, trying to converse and interact with her. but, he was okay with it. he couldn't help losing another person he loved. hideo also seemed very secretive to aika, but she never questioned it. all he was trying to do was keep her out of the god's way. he always told himself that he would soon tell aika that he could transform into a seahorse, but he just couldn't bring himself up to it. he was afraid that she would leave him, just like his mother did, afraid, thinking that he was a monster. don't get him wrong, he did talk to her and joke around. he'd also take her out to parks, beaches,and amusement parks. surprisingly, he was the one that held her hand first. he loved the warmth that she provided in the cold, and unmerciful world he lived in and wanted to return with an attempt to give her warmth. although he didn't seem the punny type when they first met, after a while, they came out of his mouth like machine guns.

how do they meet?: the two met at the place he enjoyed being the most and aika enjoyed being the least. school. hideo took a job there as one of the nurses at the hospital there. aika was just doing her job as a professor. lecture, assign homework, grade papers, repeat. it's not like she hated the students, she just hated the whole process of it. why are you keeping students locked up all day cramming useless information while they could be outside, allowing, character traits that would last them a long time instead? "what is essential is invisible to the eye." was her favorite quote from her favorite book, "the little prince," and told her students that everyday. that glorious day, her lungs started to act up again, so bad that she collapsed on the way to her car. luckily, hideo was outside, taking a phone call as he witnessed this. immediately, his instincts kicked in and rushed over to help her. after picking her up bridal style and dropping her off at the emergency room, he quickly examined her. pneumonia. after she woke up, he prescribed her with antibiotics, with a smile. it was that moment, that he realized how beautiful she was, and same goes for aika. since then, she would stop by to deliver him lunch and "thank yous." at first, he thought it was just a kind gesture of gratitude, but no too long after, he realized that he was falling for her, and so had aika. but hideo was afraid. he was afraid that he would loose her, like the Little Prince did the fox. after "taming" the fox, also known as aika, they would need each other. but if she left, there would be a ginormous abyss in his heart, right over the one that was left from his mother and kaiya. also, if he was the Little Prince and se was his rose, he would devote so much tie on her, that they would fall apart, but still would remain in his heart. but after weeks, he just couldn't hold himself back anymore, and did what any other man in love did. he confessed. and so did aika.
