- My fear is that all of this will get in the way of cute brothers.
- -
- A daring synthesis.
- >Asriel didn't remember this place.
- >It wasn't usual for Hometown to have new businesses.
- >It was less usual for them to last any decent time.
- >But here was this small bakery and coffee shop, doing more than alright for itself judging by the people on the tables outside.
- >"Miss. Muffet's Tea Room?" Asriel mused to himself.
- >He walked in, the door making a bell ring as it opened.
- >"Be with you in a minute!" a voice called from the back.
- >"That' f- Wait, Kris?"
- >Kris suddenly came out from around the corner.
- >"Azzy! I didn't know you were coming back."
- >"It was meant to be a surprise. But here's a surprise as well. You didn't tell me you got a job."
- >"Well, it was this or college and, well, I'm not cut out for the studious life."
- >"You're smart enough."
- >"I know, it's just... Nevermind! Come on, sit down. What do you want?"
- >Asriel moved to get out his wallet before Kris raised his hand.
- >"It's fine."
- >"Wow. Drinks on the house? The boss must like you?"
- >Suddenly Asriel felt a presence beside him he didn't feel approach. "He earns his keep."
- >Asriel jerked to the side, and saw a spider monster, drinks and pastries balanced on her six hands.
- >"H-howdy!" Asriel said, dumbly holding out a hand, as if she had any spare to take it.
- >Amazingly, she somehow positioned the cups and trays so she had a spare hand to shake his.
- >"You must be the brother," she said with a cheeky smile on her face. "I've heard plenty about you."
- >"That's right," Asriel said, composing himself. "But Azzy is fine, everyone else calls me that."
- >"You can call me Muffet," she said playfully. "The 'Miss' is just my stage name. I'll be back in a momen, dearie," she said to Kris before moving off.
- >"Dearie?" Asriel said to himself, then again at Kris. "Dearie?"
- >But Kris' blush gave the older brother all the answer he needed.

- >"Ah... I see what's going on here," Asriel said as he took a seat. "Y'know. I didn't peg you for an older woman type, but here we are."
- >"She's only a few years," Kris said, more defensive than he intended to sound.
- >The two brothers caught up on what they had been doing, with Kris trying to dodge any questions about his relationship.
- >"You've changed a lot," Asriel said, wiping the hot chocolate moustache from his fur.
- >"I know. It's so weird, because sometimes I don't even recognise my own past self."
- >"You dress better now," Asriel said, pointing to his brother's smart shirt rolled up at the sleeves and waistcoat ensemble, with the black and white apron over the top.
- >"I liked the old clothes," Muffet said, appearing by their side again, getting another jolt from Asriel that made his fur stand up. "They looked cheap. Just the way I like it when I'm buying."
- >She moved and took a seat with the two brothers, one of her hands taking one of Kris'
- >"But once I have it, I like it to be the best money can buy."
- >Asriel didn't notice a small assortment of cakes and pastries arrived along with the spider.
- >Taking a small piece of carrot cake, he took a bite.
- >"That *is* good," he said. "Worth the prices."
- >Muffet laughed, holding one hand over her mouth, as another picked up her coffee, as another continued to hold Kris'.
- >"So," Asriel said, washing down the bite of cake with some hot chocolate, "How long have you been in Hometown, Muffet."
- >"Oh, six months."
- >"I didn't see this place last time I came."
- >"Its only been open four months," Kris elaborated.
- >"And," he turned to Muffet, a threatening gesture to his pointing finger, but a humorous look to his face, "How long have you been with my brother."
- >"Three months," Kris answered quickly. "It was three months."
- >Asriel raised an eyebrow at his brother, who started to blush.

- The three spoke for a while, about Kris and his changes about the man he had grown in to, about Asriel and his education now nearly finished, and about how Muffet's business was going.
- >Kris talked about his friends, and what a change that was for Asriel to hear his brother say!
- >Eventually Muffet excused herself as some tables had to be cleared, leaving the two brothers alone again.
- >But Asriel himself also had to leave, and with a friendly hug to his brother, and farewell to Muffet, he left.
- >"So, that's the fluffball," she said, one hand taking Kris', another hand holding his hip, and another on her own hip, and... Kris lost track of the others.
- >"Yeah."
- >Kris smiled.
- >It was good to have Asriel back to visit, but with his little job, with a woman ("only a few years older, mom") he was crazy about, he didn't feel that same dependence.
- >Suddenly the door rang as some other customers came is, and out of view, he saw Muffet rubbing two of her hands together, noticing their high-quality shoes.
- >She could be a real miser, sometimes.
