My band is struggling to get on the 1st page of Google
Hi, firstly if I've started this thread in the wrong place I apologise I am still getting used to this forum. I am in a band and even after paying for some seo we're are not showing up on the first page of Google (for our band name) due to our band name being keywords for other large businesses and industries (the band is called System Machine) and as we have already built up a healthy enough fanbase, released music and done lots of gigs, press/interviews etc under this name changing the name is not an option. To be honest no one in the band knows enough about seo to know what to do next. I've been reading a lot of threads, posts and checking out services on here that I think may help but I'm such a newbie to all this that it's a little overwhelming. I was hoping I could get some advice on how we would go about getting ourselves on the first page of Google. I apologise again if this is total newbie stuff :)

If your website is not SEO optimized at all how do you even expect to compete against Microsoft, CNET, Wikipedia, etc.?
Some quick things about your homepage:
1. You're only using 20 out of the 60 characters for your title tag
2. You have no canonical tags in place
3. You have a non-optimized meta description
4. you have very little actual content/text
5. You are not using schema markup
6. You have no robots.txt
7. This isn't for ranking but you should sign up for Google Analytics.
I hope you didn't pay too much for your SEO work as it's not optimized at all. I took 2 minutes and found out all of these big problems (i'm sure there are way more). You only have 5 backlinks in total but thats a huge problem.

We paid a guy $100 for SEO and genuinely thought he'd done the work. Have you any thoughts on what we should do next? We'd really appreciate the help :)

1. Changing your content.
2. Changing your code.
3. Joining the community.
4. Using google.
I'd try ranking for "system machine band" instead of shooting for ranking for system machine right now. If someone googles your name that's the next thing they're going to type in anyway (or something like it). Spending a bunch on ranking 'system machine' is pretty pointless IMO.
What do you mean by 'changing your content'? We're a band so what exactly do you think we should change our content too? As for joining the community I'm on here! :)
Thanks for the reply! We're ranking 2nd on Google UK for 'System Machine Music'. It seemed easier to rank for than 'System Machine Band'. I did that after reading some threads on here :)

Hey I would suggest to get seo optimised content from one of the writers here.
2) If it’s a Wordpress site ask @Jeepy to Optimize it for you.
3) choose seo service and ask them to give you a seo report fix all that.
4) before you do step no 3, do keyword research ask seller here to give you easy keywords to rank.
Or best hire a HAF to fix your mess

You can try this-
Start by dominating long-tail keywords.
Pay to reach the top of the AdWords search network.
Write more blog posts than your competition.
Get reviewed and featured in round-ups.

Don't worry about it! It's not a good Keyword to rank for. People will find you on Social Media more than Google, so just keep updating your Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook pages every 1-3 days and Google will help people who are interested find you. Other keywords you can think about ranking for are "System Machine Music," "System Machine Ireland," "System Machine Belfast," "Electronic (or whatever) Bands in Ireland," "Bands from Belfast," but again these keywords aren't really important. Unfortunately when you search for "System" lost of times people are going to be recommended System of a Down, but it's OK. Just keep pumping out more content on your social medias. I would also put more information about your band on your website, maybe make a section where you talk about the real names of the band members. Because if someone searches for your lead singer or whatever name, you want to rank very highly for that and it should be easier to rank for.
Edit: Oh and you can build a Wikipedia page for your band. Probably you will want to pay someone for that, you can post in our Hire a Freelancer section we have lots of guys experienced with Wikipedia who can do it for very cheap and make it look legit so it doesn't get deleted (hopefully). System machine isn't going to be hard to rank for but first you should try to just build up a social profile, Wikipedia, Youtube, Facebook or Instagram or whatever.
Your website doesn't look fully built, has hardly any content, some of the media doesn't load properly and to be fair the theming looks terrible, and then you've got the metadata...
When you start with a web 2.0 you don't need to worry about the design/development of your website.
Also when most people google for an artist they don't commonly go to the artists website. If they want to listen to music they go to Youtube or Spotify, general information they go to Wikipedia, other information Twitter, general news there'll probably be 3 news articles at the top of Google.
Decide what the purpose of your website should be, then see if there's any better alternative. There probably will be.
to be fair the theming looks terrible
I think the theme looks good for their genre/band style. I don't understand why there would be a problem with it.
Thanks for the advice and intel guys. The website was built using a website builder that came with the hosting. I've been working on building up our social media profiles. I'm doing good with Instagram and ok with Facebook. Youtube but not so great with Twitter. I like the Wikipedia idea. I'll have to look into that. We have a lot of stuff happening this month and I'd like to get our online presence in good shape before that.
