- Ocean Torus
- Ocean Torus is well known to not have been retrieved by its original owner. Macken Ru, the moon whistle who brought it to Orth, reported the following upon his return.
- "One of my treasures, that ring looking thing? While traversing back up through the Inverted Forest, there was a collapsed delver. I couldn't tell by his wear if it was a foreigner or friend, so I observed from afar until I was confident it was safe. Finally I approached. He wasn't just collapsed, he was dead! Yet his clothes, his knap and the rest of his belongings were in okay shape. Definitely not the condition of one who was murdered by someone or something. But his body physically looked paled and worn. Did he die of illness I wondered? Regardless, I wasn't about to let curiosity overwhelm me in dangerous territory. I did a quick inspection of his belongings, found this large ring, and continued on my way. Also keep this to yourself, but when I saw it, it looked quite delectable! Nearly tossed that sucker in my mouth hahahah!"
- The relic wasn't immediately understood. Due in part to the fact that the assumed location of discovery for the relic was in the 2nd Layer alongside its original owner, there was no excitement among the top research guilds to get their hands on it. It quickly became lost among other inert relics.
- A woman was found about a few weeks later in a terrible condition in the alley of the upper commercial district. She was rushed to the homeopath Ervl who looked over the woman. She conducted a quick examination and administered treatment, and sometime later was quoted by the following,
- "The woman I treated was brought to me early in the morning a few weeks ago. She was unresponsive and sickly looking. My first conclusion was a bad night of drinking. However as my examination proceeded I realized the urgency of the situation. Her nails and hair were decrepit. Bones that felt so brittle I worried about snapping her ulna while raising her arm. I didn't find anything to indicate that this was the result of drugging or assault. Honestly I felt overwhelmed by the situation, most of my patients are well enough to bring themselves in and explain their situation. I administered an intravenous and sent the man who brought her in to fetch a guild doctor who could better treat her."
- The woman was transferred over to the care of the guild doctors. She was diagnosed with extreme malnutrition, properly treated, and recovered.
- While at the guild to fetch doctors, the man discussed with the guild director the circumstances in which he found her.
- "The alley I found her, it wasn't luck. Rarely do people wander down these alleys. I was walking past when I had a wonderful inclination towards this alley. It wasn't unlike a compulsion to eat your favorite food, but in this case it was much stronger, as if I was confident I was not going to be okay if I avoided this alley. So I went and found the woman. I'm not so heartless as to leave a fellow human lying to die. Thing is, I also found this large silvery ring on the ground near her. I swiped it before bringing her to help. I didn't bring it up with the homeopath as I was afraid she might want it from me. Now though I understand. I don't know how, but this thing did that to her. It was killing her, and it will kill me if I keep it! Please take it!"
- The man forced the ring into the director's hand and ran off.
- The large ring was given a priority position for research by the guild and was classified as a 3rd grade relic with the following two properties: The ring attracts nearby people towards it, specifically with a hunger towards consuming it. This attraction was transient, and had a differing magnitude of effect for everyone. The second property: People who were heavily attracted to the object would sometimes fall into a stupor while holding the ring. Onlookers describe the illusioned as silent, holding the relic in front of their face for a long period of time. They were able to be roused by a forceful impact to the body, or having the ring taken from their grasp. Absent of these stimuli, they would seemingly stay lost in the stupor for an indefinite time. Subjects who were awaken described similar symptoms. They who would describe remembering themselves attempting to eat the ring, but despite continuous eating, they would never be able to finish it. They were oblivious to their surroundings while affected. It was auctioned and bought by Ervl who declared to use it for hypnotic treatments to ease pain in patients. It was named the Ocean Torus for its shape and the endless eating one the afflicted would experience, similar to the endless distance of the ocean.
- Habo had this to say about Ocean Torus, "Sounds like a great afternoon!"
