Grace Backstory Edit

Teen Grace Backstory:

Grace Kingston was born to the Kingston family with her twin sister Gina and spent her younger years walking around aquariums her father worked at and admiring the aquatic life living there. This passion for the water lead Grace to become a premier swimmer entering middle school and even on track to potentially earning a scholarship due to her numerous records before she was even 13. However, tragedy struck Grace with the passing of her sickly mother when she was 12. Before passing on, her mother gave Grace a few gifts; namely an old coral necklace and her partner, Sangomon. With her final breath, Grace's mother told her to never give up what she loves, no matter what. Taking these words to heart, Grace focused more of her time into swimming to earn that scholarship and playing with Sangomon.

However, when she was 14, Grace has all her passions turn to vapor during a school field trip to an aquarium where they got to look behind the scenes. While looking into the deep sea exhibit, Grace was pushed into the exhibit by her rival on the swim team, Rhonda Caldwell. Startled, Grace ended up being exposed to various terrors of the deep and would have drowned if not for the workers helping to get Grace out of the exhibit in time. She survived drowning but the experience made Grace develop thalassophobia, the fear of deeper bodies of water and the life inside it. As a result, she was too scared to even get into the pool again and would be left paralyzed if she saw any aquatic creature, including Sangomon.

This stigma persisted even as Grace got back to school as she was further bullied by Rhonda due to her jealousy at Grace being everyone's favorite on the swim team and how she stood out. Defeated, Grace asked her father to withdraw her from school where she became a shut-in.

Grace Kingston and her twin sister Gina were born to the Kingston Family, a family that has operated various popular aquariums around the world for generations. Growing up, both the Kingston daughters would visit these aquariums and while Gina wasn't as interested, Grace adored seeing the multitudes of colorful fish and wished to swim in the oceans with them someday. This passion drove her to take swimming classes and eventually desire to go pro when she was an adult. She would carry around an old coral necklace given to her by her sickly mother and talk without end about different kinds of fish in the ocean. However, her passion would swiftly turn to vapor due to an incident that has haunted her since.

During a school trip to the local aquarium for a science project, the students were given a tour behind the scenes to look at how the aquatic life was fed and cared for. While looking into the deep sea exhibit, Grace was hassled by her rival on the elementary swim team, Rhonda, and ended up falling into the exhibit. Startled, Grace opened her eyes as she was surrounded by various terrors of the deep and freaked out in the tank, which alerted the staff to come and rescue her before she drowned. Grace survived but the experience left her with thalassophobia, the fear of deeper bodies of water and the life inside it. As a result, she was too scared to even get in a bathtub let alone swim in a pool as the thought of swimming sent her into a panic.

As a result, Grace and Gina transferred to a new school in order to get away from any lingering worries as Grace tries to focus on her new school life and escape her fears.
