  1. You wake up groggily. Saturday morning. Checking the alarm clock it’s nearly noon already. Totally worth it waking up late for a night of gaming.
  2.
  3. You decide to text Sayori.
  4.
  5. “Good morning, Sayori. You up to anything today?”
  6.
  7. A few minutes go by before you get a text back.
  8.
  9. “Goodmorning! Sorry, I guess I forgot to tell you I went out with Natsuki today.”
  10.
  11. Well, guess that leaves you more time to play video games. Maybe you’ll surprise Sayori by cleaning her place a bit later.
  12.
  13. *****
  14.
  15. It’s about 9:30 before Sayori wakes up. She doesn’t set an alarm, but woke herself up because she remembered she had plans with Natsuki today.
  16.
  17. Sayori goes to Natsuki’s room and knocks on her door before opening it.
  18.
  19. Natsuki is still sleeping, curled up into her blanket.
  20.
  21. Sayori goes over to Natsuki and gently nudges her shoulder.
  22.
  23. “Wake up sleepy.” Sayori whispers.
  24.
  25. Natsuki grumbles, slowly opening her eyes before she turns to Sayori.
  26.
  27. “Just… five more minutes… please…” Natsuki says softly, half asleep.
  28.
  29. “If you get up now I’ll make pancakes!”
  30.
  31. Hearing this Natsuki darts up into her bed before rushing into the bathroom.
  32.
  33. Sayori smiles to herself before heading downstairs to make a batch of pancakes for Natsuki and herself.
  34.
  35. Natsuki finishes her shower quickly and goes to get dressed for the day.
  36.
  37. Looking through her clothes Natsuki tries to decide on an outfit for the day.
  38.
  39. “Oh yeah, we’re going shopping today…” she says to herself.
  40.
  41. Eventually Natsuki decides on a light pink tank top and light blue skirt. She grabs a light, white windbreaker just in case it rains, tying it around her waist. A pair of white sneakers rounds off the outfit.
  42.
  43. By the time Natsuki is done getting dressed Sayori has finished making pancakes and is already in the shower.
  44.
  45. “Well, I don’t want to be rude, but…” Natsuki says to herself as she sits down to an empty table to eat her filling of pancakes.
  46.
  47. Sayori finishes showering and gets dressed as well.
  48.
  49. She seems quicker choosing an outfit than Natsuki.
  50.
  51. Sayori starts putting on a pair of denim shorts and a blue and white baseball style shirt that’s about a half size small. She figures the shirt is tight enough that she’ll be able to keep it on if she needs to try on any clothes.
  52.
  53. “Sure is good Anon outgrew this shirt.” Sayori thinks to herself as she pulls it on.
  54.
  55. Sayori decides a pair of light brown sandals will go well with her outfit.
  56.
  57. Coming back into the dining room Sayori notices only a few pancakes left on the platter. Natsuki reaches out to grab more before Sayori just barely stops her.
  58.
  59. Finishing breakfast rather quickly Sayori and Natsuki head out for the day.
  60.
  61. “So where are we going first?” Natsuki asks.
  62.
  63. “I dunno, I was thinking we’d catch the bus to town and start off at the mall. There’s a few smaller stores nearby that are pretty neat. Do you like thrift stores?”
  64.
  65. “I sure do!” Natsuki says with a smile. “Found my Dreamcast at one!”
  66.
  67. Luckily the girls left at just the right time because the bus pulls up only a few minutes after they get to the bus stop.
  68.
  69. *****
  70.
  71. It’s about a 15 minute bus ride into town. It’s a nice day for a bus ride, made even better by the bus being mostly empty. Sayori and Natsuki sit towards the back with Natsuki taking the window seat. Natsuki rests her head on Sayori’s shoulder to take a quick nap as they ride into town.
  72. *****
  73.
  74. Eventually the bus gets into town near the mall and Sayori pulls the cable for the next stop. Natsuki wakes up as Sayori leans to pull the cable.
  75.
  76. The girls step off the bus and head towards the mall, eying the stores along the way.
  77.
  78. As they make their way Natsuki notices a manga shop.
  79.
  80. “Sayori! Can we go in there real quick, I think the new Parfait Girls is out!”
  81.
  82. Without a word Sayori excitedly turns towards the store.
  83.
  84. Natsuki quickly goes to the new manga section and grabs the newest issue of Parfait Girls.
  85.
  86. Sayori disappears into the shelves of the store to browse. Natsuki decides she might as well do the same.
  87.
  88. After a few minutes Sayori and Natsuki have both grabbed a few of the newer Jump issues.
  89.
  90. While checking out Natsuki goes to grab a melon Ramune.
  91.
  92. “Sayori, you ever try these?”
  93.
  94. “I don’t think I’ve ever had that flavor.” Sayori responds.
  95.
  96. Natsuki grabs a second as she checks out, handing it to Sayori.
  97.
  98. Sayori checks out her items as well and puts them and Natsuki’s into the bag she brought along.
  99.
  100. *****
  101.
  102. Eventually Sayori and Natsuki get to the mall and begin going from store to store for window shopping.
  103.
  104. The girls go through several stores, not really finding much. They play around with a few toys and trinkets they see. Natsuki ends up buying a cheap slingshot.
  105.
  106. “Just don’t use it inside, Natsuki.” Sayori tells her.
  107.
  108. “Come on, Sayori, I’m not that dumb!” Natsuki groans.
  109.
  110. After a while longer the girls end up by the food court.
  111.
  112. “I dunno about you, but I’m starving.” Natsuki says, walking towards the food court.
  113.
  114. “But you ate most of the pancakes…” Sayori mutters to herself.
  115.
  116. The girls end up getting themselves some bento style lunch trays with tea and miso soup. Nothing too fancy, but luckily for the the food court here is reasonably priced for the quality and quantity.
  117.
  118. “I wonder what Anon’s doing today…” Sayori thinks to herself.
  119.
  120. “Probably just playing video games like he was all last night.” Natsuki says between bites.
  121.
  122. “How do you know he was doing that?” Sayori inquires.
  123.
  124. “He texted me at like midnight asking what consoles I have. I told him my newest one is a Playstation 2. Guess he wanted to play something more modern.”
  125.
  126. “Yeah, sorry I don’t have anything newer, I’d always just go to his house to play video games.”
  127.
  128. “It’s fine, Sayori. I like older games anyways.”
  129.
  130. Finishing up their lunch the girls continue back into the mall.
  131.
  132. Eventually Natsuki finds a shirt she likes. It’s a scoop neck white t-shirt with pink sleeves and a hummingbird on the breast pocket.
  133.
  134. Other than that the girls don’t find much at the mall worth buying, or at least nothing they can afford.
  135.
  136. “Well, maybe we’ll have better luck at the thrift store.” Sayori says as they leave the mall. “There’s a bookstore on the way too, let’s see if they have a copy of that book Yuri’s reading with Anon, it sounds interesting.”
  137.
  138. The bookstore is about a five minute walk from the mall. As they approach the book store the door is opened by who else but Yuri.
  139.
  140. Yuri is surprised to see Sayori and Natsuki, but smiles and greets them warmly.
  141.
  142. “Hey Yuri, didn’t think we’d see you out here today.” Sayori says.
  143.
  144. “Oh, well I decided to see what new books they got in. Didn’t really see much though.”
  145.
  146. “Well we’re on our way to that neat thrift store just down the road if you’d care to join us.”
  147.
  148. “Yeah, Yuri” Natsuki adds “We wouldn’t mind you joining us.”
  149.
  150. Yuri smiles. “Thanks, guys, but I have things to do around the house today, maybe another time.”
  151.
  152. “Ok! Have fun!” Sayori says brightly.
  153.
  154. Yuri exchanges hugs with Sayori and Natsuki before parting ways.
  155.
  156. Unfortunately for Sayori and Natsuki the book store doesn’t have any copies of the Portrait of Markov.
  157.
  158. “Not many girls your age come around for books like that. Usually have to order those kinda books from the supplier.”
  159.
  160. “That’s ok, mister, thanks anyways!” Sayori says to the shopkeeper.
  161.
  162. Somewhat disappointed the girls leave, continuing on to the thrift store.
  163.
  164. “You know, I’ve been to a few of these kinda stores before, but somehow I’ve never been to this one.” Natsuki tells Sayori as they’re walking. “Is it any good?”
  165.
  166. “I suppose so. I’ve found a few cute things there. There’s a bit of everything really. I remember seeing a bunch of video games too.”
  167.
  168. Hearing this, Natsuki’s face lights up with a look of determination.
  169.
  170. Sayori worries the consequences of this, because she distinctly remembers prices on the older used games being rather low.
  171.
  172. “First Anon, now Natsuki. I guess it’s my fate to play more games.” Sayori thinks to herself.
  173.
  174. Arriving, the girls see that it’s less of a thrift store and more of a huge second hand store. It’s about the size of a department store at the mall.
  175.
  176. Towards the front entrance is the clothing section, so the girls start there.
  177.
  178. “Natsuki, those are the racks of boys clothes!”
  179.
  180. “I-I know that! But sometimes they mis-label things, right?”
  181.
  182. “Well, that’s true.” Sayori admits. “I was probably going to look there myself.”
  183.
  184. “Don’t worry, Sayori, I’m just taking a quick look.” Natsuki says with a smile.
  185.
  186. After a couple minutes Natsuki begins excitedly calling Sayori over.
  187.
  188. “Sayori! Sayori! Come try this on!”
  189.
  190. Hearing her name called out, Sayori rushes over and Natsuki brings her to the changing stalls.
  191.
  192. “Are you sure about this Natsuki?” Sayori says behind the privacy curtain.
  193.
  194. “Does it not fit?” Natsuki inquires, sounding worried whatever she picked out wouldn’t.
  195.
  196. “N-No, it fits great actually, it’s just… I don’t know when I’d wear it.”
  197.
  198. “Oh come on Sayori, just let me see how it looks.”
  199.
  200. “O-Ok…”
  201.
  202. With that Sayori pulls back the curtain to reveal the outfit Natsuki had picked out for her.
  203.
  204. It was a black suit with matching shirt. By chance Natsuki had found it in the boy’s section and it just happened to fit Sayori near perfectly.
  205.
  206. “It’s a little tight in the chest…” Sayori says, adjusting her breasts inside the suit.
  207.
  208. “Hmm, well I think suits are made to be able to be adjusted a bit. Just don’t go letting your boobs get too big.” Natsuki says, grinning and playfully jabbing Sayori’s side. “But I think it looks cool on you, almost like the king of knights.”
  209.
  210. “The what?” Sayori asks, confused.
  211.
  212. “Err, forget I said that…” Natsuki says, embarrassed that she made that reference.
  213.
  214. “Hmm, maybe I can wear it as a costume or something. Besides, it’s pretty cheap so I think I’ll grab it. You find anything else in this section?”
  215.
  216.
  217. “Pfft, nothing…” Natsuki says, annoyed. “I think I’ll join you in the girl’s section.”
  218.
  219. Once in the girl’s section, Sayori and Natsuki are much more enthusiastic and frequent with taking clothes off the racks, either for themselves or the other to try on.
  220.
  221. “Natsuki, this cardigan is adorable!” Sayori says, holding out a pale pink cardigan. The material is rather light, but heavier than a regular shirt.
  222.
  223. “It is! But I think it would look better on you, Sayori.” Natsuki says, honestly. “I think with a blue skirt you’d look great.”
  224.
  225. Continuing through the racks, Natsuki grabs a shirt.
  226.
  227. “Looks like this got misplaced.” she says, holding out a red Hawaiian style shirt with a hibiscus flower and leaf pattern. “Actually, Sayori… Try this on.”
  228.
  229. Sayori slips the shirt over top of hers. The slightly longer sleeves of her baseball t shirt poke through the sleeves of the Hawaiian shirt on top. She begins to button it.
  230.
  231. “No, no, no!” Natsuki says, undoing the button Sayori had started buttoning. “And here, put your sleeves up like this.” she says, pushing up the sleeves of Sayori’s under shirt.
  232.
  233. Sayori goes to the nearest mirror, turning back and forth to look at the entire outfit. The red Hawaiian shirt is slightly too big for Sayori to wear on it’s own, but complements the denim shorts she’s wearing. Her sandals also help complete the look.
  234.
  235. “Maybe if I wore a tank top instead…” Sayori mutters to herself.
  236.
  237. “Don’t kid yourself, Sayori, that’s a great outfit!” Natsuki says, encouragingly. “If you don’t get that for yourself, I’ll buy it for you!”
  238.
  239. “Oh no, no, I’ll get it for myself… Does it really look that good?”
  240.
  241. “Sure does!” Natsuki says with a smile and a wink.
  242.
  243. “I wonder if Anon will like it…” Sayori mumbles to herself, quietly enough that Natsuki doesn’t hear.
  244.
  245. Finding a few more clothes the girls decide it’s time to move on to the rest of the store. The electronics section that Natsuki longs for is in the back. Heading towards there, the girls pass through the furniture section, after which is where the store keeps shelves of trinkets and miscellaneous house goods. Nothing catching either of their eyes, the girls continue onwards.
  246.
  247. “Oh, maybe we should check the book section.” Sayori says.
  248.
  249. Fortunately the books are kept near the electronics section, so the girls stop there first.
  250.
  251. “Maybe we’ll find that book Yuri and Anon are reading.” Natsuki says to Sayori.
  252.
  253. Looking through, there’s a surprisingly good amount of books that catch the girls’ interest.
  254.
  255. “Oh, I remember reading this book in class.” Sayori says, grabbing a copy of 1984. “Maybe I can give it another read.”
  256.
  257. “I found a few books by an author I think I remember Monika and Yuri talking about once. Mishima or something like that I think? Says there’s four books in this series.” Natsuki says, disappointed at the fact that she only holds three books.
  258.
  259. Grabbing almost as many books as they did clothes the girls are about to head to the electronics section when Sayori pauses near the end of a shelf.
  260.
  261. “Oh! There it is!” she shouts, excitedly, pulling a book from the shelf.
  262.
  263. Bringing it down for Natsuki to look at, Sayori holds a copy of the Portrait of Markov.
  264.
  265. “It’s a bit old, but it’ll do!”
  266.
  267. As Sayori puts it in her hand basket, Natsuki goes on her tiptoes to reach a book next to where Portrait of Markov had been sitting.
  268.
  269. “What’s this, it has a cat on it?” she says, looking over the book she grabbed.
  270.
  271. “Master and Margarita?” Sayori says, reading the title of the book.
  272.
  273. Natsuki flips it to the back as both girls read the summary.
  274.
  275. “Huh, so it’s like the devil goes to Russia or something?” Sayori notes.
  276.
  277. “Well I think a cat holding a pistol is hilarious, so I’ll get it. I bet Yuri knows more, we should ask her!” Natsuki says, putting the book in her hand basket.
  278.
  279. Finally, the part Natsuki has been most excited for. The electronics and video games.
  280.
  281. Natsuki darts through the isles with such vigor that Sayori wonders if she truly saw everything on each shelf. It soon becomes clear Natsuki either didn’t or is double checking because she makes about three or four more rounds through each isle. Every time Natsuki passes by Sayori notices another game or controller or something added into Natsuki’s hand basket.
  282.
  283. “Natsuki, you know we have to carry all this back home, right?”
  284.
  285. Stopping on her heels, Natsuki turns to Sayori, putting down her hand basket before flexing her right arm and grabbing her bicep.
  286.
  287. “Dontcha know I’m stronger than I look, Sayori!” she says grinning so wide her eyes are closed.
  288.
  289. Sayori smiles to herself as Natsuki picks her hand basket back up and continues browsing.
  290.
  291. “Oh, Sayori! Come check this out!” Natsuki shouts a few isles down.
  292.
  293. Sayori goes over to see what Natsuki found.
  294.
  295. “Check it out, a Wii! And it’s only 700 Yen with two controllers! Can I get it for us?”
  296.
  297. “I don’t see why not!” Sayori says. “Just try not to throw the remote into the tv screen.”
  298.
  299. “I won’t, I promise! This is the newest console I’ve ever owned, this is gonna be great!”
  300.
  301. After this, Natsuki’s pace seems to slow through the isles as she stops adding to her hand basket which is nearly full by now.
  302.
  303. “Ok, Sayori, I think I’ve got all I want!”
  304.
  305. “Alright, wanna get headed back home?”
  306.
  307. “I mean, I guess. It’s still a bit early though, maybe we can just walk around town for a bit?”
  308.
  309. “Sure! There’s a nice little park that we passed on the way, let’s check it out!”
  310.
  311. Arriving at the checkout the girls are surprised how little their totals come out to be.
  312.
  313. “Wow, and here I was thinking I’d have to beg you for some money.” Natsuki jokingly says to Sayori.
  314.
  315. “Well, just don’t complain if it gets too heavy.”
  316.
  317. “I’ve got this!” Natsuki assures Sayori with a grin.
  318.
  319. The girls head back at a leisurely pace, enjoying the sights of the city.
  320.
  321. Near the entrance to the park the girls spot an ice cream stand. They both get themselves a vanilla ice cream cone.
  322.
  323. The park is moderately sized, with well kept grass surrounding a central plaza that connects on four sides to the rest of town. Trees dot the field of grass, providing more than a few shady spots to enjoy on a nice day. As well the central plaza has benches that surround a fountain in the middle. While being an average looking fountain it adds to the calmness of the park.
  324.
  325. The girls make a couple laps around the plaza and even check out a few trees in the park. Eventually though they sit down on a bench next to each other to rest.
  326.
  327. “Hey, Sayori… Thanks for taking me out today… It’s been a while since I’ve had a day out like this…”
  328.
  329. “It’s no problem, Natsuki. I’ve had a good time with you today too.”
  330.
  331. Hearing this Natsuki looks almost like she’s going to cry. Sayori sees this and starts wondering what to do. But before a second thought can cross Sayori’s mind, Natsuki’s arms wrap around her and Natsuki buries her face in Sayori’s chest. Sayori can feel the tears running down Natsuki’s eyes soaking through her shirt.
  332.
  333. Sayori in turn embraces Natsuki, bringing her head down on top of Natsuki’s. The two hold the embrace for a couple minutes, completely unaware of the world around them.
  334.
  335. Eventually Natsuki releases her embrace and looks up into Sayori’s eyes.
  336.
  337. “Thanks for being my big sister, Sayori. I never knew how much I wanted one. I guess fate planned this for us…”
  338.
  339. “I’m glad we met too…”
  340.
  341. The girls remain sitting on the bench, leaning against one another’s shoulders, for some time, just enjoying the scenery and being out.
  342.
  343. Some time passes and the sun begins hanging lower and lower in the sky.
  344.
  345. “I think it’s about time we head home.” Sayori eventually says.
  346.
  347. The sun begins to set as the girls get on the bus. Natsuki rests against Sayori’s shoulder for the duration of the bus ride. Sayori too rests her eyes, smiling content that she made someone happy. As well Sayori realizes that she too is genuinely happy. For Sayori, today wasn’t a day of fake smiles for the sake of those around her. No, today was a day that she had genuinely enjoyed every moment of.
  348.
  349. Eventually the bus approaches the stop Sayori and Natsuki need to get off at. Sayori seems to know it’s coming up soon and wakes herself up. This wakes Natsuki as well, who yawns and rubs her eyes open. Sayori pulls the cord and the girls gather their bags.
  350.
  351. The walk back from the bus takes slightly longer than usual, but both girls are tired and not exactly rushing. By now the sun has set and both girls enjoy the stars and moonlight.
  352.
  353. The girls finally arrive home after a long day. The first thing Sayori notices, however, is the house was in a much cleaner state than when they left.
  354.
  355. “What’s this?” Sayori says, noticing something on the table.
  356.
  357. ~Sayori, I remember promising you I’d help you clean up. Figured I might as well remain a man of my word.
  358. ~Anon
  359.
  360. “Aww, how sweet.” Sayori says.
  361.
  362. Natsuki grabs the note and reads it herself.
  363.
  364. “Man, guess he really didn’t have anything better to do today.”
  365.
  366.
  367. “I should thank him” Sayori says. “I know! I’ll make him lunch tomorrow!”
  368.
  369. “Ok, ok, I guess I can help too.” Natsuki says as if she’s being forced to make food as well.
  370.
  371. “Natsuki, I didn’t-”
  372.
  373. “Geez, Sayori, you don’t have to ask again, I already said I’d cook with you.” Natsuki says. Natsuki winks at the confused Sayori who understands this is Natsuki’s way of volunteering to help.
  374.
  375. “Well thanks Natsuki. Unfortunately for tonight, I’m too tired to make anything, but there should be some miso soup in the fridge and a few snacks.”
  376.
  377. “That’s fine, I’m pretty tired myself too.”
  378.
  379. The girls both have a quick, light dinner before changing into their pajamas and heading to bed.
  380.
  381. “Good night Natsuki!” Sayori says as they both stand by Natsuki’s door.
  382.
  383. “G-Good night Sayori…” Natsuki says, looking down nervously.
  384.
  385. As Sayori is about to turn around Natsuki taps her shoulder to get her to turn back. As Sayori does Natsuki gets on her tiptoes and gives Sayori a peck on the cheek.
  386.
  387. “Thanks again for today, big sis.”
  388.
  389. With that Natsuki goes into her room.
  390.
  391. Sayori blushes, almost embarrassed, despite no one being around to see that. Climbing into bed Sayori feels warm inside. Maybe she doesn’t need to fake being happy after all. Maybe the happiness she wants other to feel comes from being around her.
  392.
  393. “Maybe everything will be ok…” Sayori thinks to herself as she drifts to sleep.
