- To first describe why the moonwalk angel's sonic and the moonwalk devil's sonic are so ambiguous, we must evaluate what the moonwalk modifier does: Everyone will agree that the moonwalk modifier will flip the path of a trick, while retaining the same direction.
- The main question regarding this modifier is, "How do the tricks respond to this modifier?" in which, two answers can be valid. Either A) The tricks within a hybrid will flip in order to preserve the path of the intermediate slots, or B) The tricks within a hybrid will stay the same, altering the path of the trick.
- For example, the moonwalk inverse side sonic is notated as the following:
- MISS 12-23 = inv sonic 12-13[2o] ~ sonic 13-13[2i]-12
- Inverse side sonic 23-12 = inv sonic 23-13[2o] ~ sonic 13-13[2i]-23
- In this instance, the tricks flip, but the path of MISS is not the same as if the path of an inverse side sonic was flipped.
- Now, take the moonwalk east sonic.
- The east sonic is notated as an inverse twisted sonic (or a pass) ~ twisted sonic , with a path of 34-13.42-12
- The moonwalk east sonic is notated as a moonwalk twisted sonic ~ moonwalk inverse twisted sonic, with a path of 12-13.42-34. In this instance, the path of the entire trick is completely flipped, where the tricks that this hybrid is composed of, flips.
- This discrepancy shows that if we follow how the MISS is defined, a moonwalk demon's sonic is moonwalk sonic ~ moonwalk twisted sonic, and a moonwalk angel's sonic is moonwalk twisted sonic ~ moonwalk sonic
- ...where if we follow how the MES and MWS are defined, a moonwalk demon's sonic is moonwalk twisted sonic ~ moonwalk sonic, and the moonwalk angel's sonic is moonwalk sonic ~ moonwalk twisted sonic.
