  1. The dealer from outside lit a cigarette as his bodyguard opened up the chest. Inside was crammed a skeleton, curled up in the fetal position, human at first glance. But the pale and viscious blood staining the ribcage looked even less human than Chambert and Genevieve, the smugglers attempting to sell it. The assorted nobles in the hidden room leaned in close, causing the accomplice to shut the chest and hiss until they backed away.
  2.
  3. "Alright, gentle folk," said the dealer. "One pound of gold for one rib." Two of the nobles reached into their coats before the Baroness of Brynn stepped forward and raised her hand.
  4.
  5. "Yes, yes, these are definitely bones from the outside, but you can't expect us to take you on your word that these bones grant power, 'Chambert'." She pointed a single sharpened fingernail at the dealer. "Show us how it works." Chambert held his smile, though his eyes twitched with annoyance.
  6.
  7. "Of course, mademoiselle, I wouldn't be a good dealer across worlds if I couldn't prove my worth." Chambert flickered, just for a moment. The Baroness of Brynn's hand flew to her chest and came away bloody. The dealer broke a rib off the smuggled skeleton as the baroness slumped to the ground, the other nobles backing away in shock. He jammed the pointy end into the Baroness's chest and smirked as she began to breathe again. "One pound of gold, one rib. Two pounds and I'll show you how to do it nicely."
