  1. "Let's play a game: Think of an amazing game you love and try to add microtransactions into it. The more disgusting the better!"

  3. Shadow of the Colossus Remastered, but the game is released unfinished with only the first 8 colossi and you have to buy the Season Pass to get the last 8 as "episodic DLC" over the course of a year. Individually (without the season pass) each of the remaining 8 colossi cost 4.99, but Malus (the last one) is 9.99. Normal Time Attack Mode, Hard Mode, and Hard Time Attack Mode are 4.99 each and are not included in the Season Pass, but _are_ included in the Premium Edition which includes the Season Pass. When you reach the last colossus before the next cutoff, Dormin says,

  5. "...You will have to spend many moons to find the next colossus..."

  7. As part of the Season Pass, you get a mandatory forced update giving you the "Pro Upgrade" which starts you out with maxed stamina and health, and a cloak with the studio's logo on it, which you can't turn off and is automatically applied on every new game and any existing saves. If you don't get the Season Pass, you get the colossus handling from the PS3 remaster where they shake you constantly and never give you an opening (this feature isn't available individually and not mentioned anywhere, but it is added in the Season Pass). For some people the colossus handling doesn't seem to be the good handling even if they got the Season Pass, leading people to think it's glitched, but due to the poorly documented nature of it, no one can be entirely sure that they're getting good controls.

  9. There are multiple retailer-specific preorder bonuses (exclusive to the Premium Edition) that add in secret parkour environments hidden in previously inaccessible areas, hand-crafted by the original development team, but it's never made available to those who didn't preorder and never offered for sale separately. There will never be a new version that includes these; if you didn't preorder them all, you will never get them. Period. Your progress on these is shown by some new stone idols in the back of the temple that now light up when you clear them, but you have to clear them _all_ to unlock the final one which is a hidden parkour section outside the gate to the Forbidden Lands that lets you get a different ending where you leave.

  11. The publisher begins selectively demonetizing reviews that mention these practices (primarily on smaller channels but on a few larger ones as well) while several glowing reviews are still seemingly monetized.

  13. Near the end of the Episodic Colossi, it's discovered and definitively proven that all the colossi were already on the disc/hard drive day 1, but this is ignored by both developer and publisher and they release the final colossus right on schedule a month later. People figure out that they would release 200MB download files but it's actually all dummy data with a 10kb activation code, but the 200MB still stays on your harddrive.
  14.
  15. People are clamoring for some sort of apology, or at least acknowledgement of wrongdoing of any kind. Another month passes, and the PR from the publisher comes out, saying:
  16.
  17. "Trolls online are harassing us innocent developers. We're just normal people like you, and if we don't seek new and innovative ways to give players a _choice_ in how to support our product, we would have no hope to be able to keep bread on the table! Yes, our developers are near-impoverished and it's those nasty trolls online who are killing them off. You should all feel ashamed for not giving us more money, and we are pursuing legal action as an option for those saying such hateful things about us."
  18.
  19. The next day, they announce Shadow of the Colossus 2, featuring "Colossi as a Service" where they beam you one Colossus a week through which you play live through cloud streaming. It sends you the colossus data live through the cloud where it's temporarily stored on your harddrive and auto-deleted at the end of the week. If you miss a week, you'll have to wait 16 weeks to pick up where you left off, and the stream service will expire after a few years, so you only get a few shots at a full playthrough. You can still explore the land, but it's completely empty outside of the stream times. They use the Super Famicom Satellaview as a model for this system. It's also going to be released within the year thanks to all the extra time they had to develop a new game while the Episodic Colossi were coming out. This kicks off yearly Shadow of the Colossus sequels, and eventually, "Shadow of the Colossus" the back to the roots reboot of the Shadow of the Colossus series.

  21. And really, who are we to say this is poor practice?
