- Running list of my issues with/questions about SAO:
- - how do they eat and drink irl?
- - how do people excrete irl?
- - won't their muscles atrophy?
- - what if they have chronic illnesses and need treatment?
- - what if you die suddenly, due to real world events?
- - why can't the creator just be prosecuted and forced to release everyone? seriously, this has been going on for years and they're just allowed to keep playing!?
- - if you have a physical disability of some sort in real life (e.g. blind, paralyzed, etc.), how do you play the game? and if you have a body deformity of some sort, does the "mirror" copy it, too?
- - those helmet batteries last realllllly long
- - EMP? it's not like the Matrix where the connection itself is what's keeping them alive
- - it really just seems like a bad .hack rip-off
- - the battle system hasn't been fully explained; it's quite bland
- - no significant character development so far (and that thing about his sister-cousin may even have been partially/entirely fabricated)
- - fucking overdone willpower, friendship, messiah/hero/"i'll protect everyone" mentality
- - it's hard to get emotionally invested when there's no suspense. there hasn't been a single longterm character who's died; even then, there are characters who've appeared a lot, yet are as fleshed out as a brick (e.g. klein, that axe weapon shop guy)
- - the first few eps just portray kirito as a noble-ish, loner-because-people-get-hurt-around-me shit magnet who always wins his fights, without really developing his character
- - DEUS EX MACHINA -_______- (yui, dual wielding thing, etc.) *some are arguably chekov's guns, but they were barely touched on, so not really
- - whyyyy can't they do romantic relationships, or even friendships, properly? liz spends a night with kirito, and suddenly she's madly in love, even though she was really annoyed with him just hours before; klein spends a few hours learning the gameplay basics from kirito, and somehow ends up idolizing him to the point of risking his life (e.g. that santa episode); kirito comforts that crying girl and tells her several times that she'll be fine, and he somehow ends up caring for her way more than he does anyone else in the guild, despite them *all* spending a couple of months together
- - that crazy, hysterical psycho guy trope is really annoying ._.
- - dual wielding is a "special" skill? that's like the most boring passive skill in most rpgs
- - that averted sex scene during the murdering traitor psycho bodyguard episode is all fan service...and why must female embarrassment always lead to violence? (i.e. she hits him because he accidentally walked in on her)
- - that episode with the guy who had his wife killed was really weird, but it was probably the best ep. so far, in terms of emotional depth and the effect being stuck in the game has had on people's psychology (which is presumably one of the main themes of the show)
- - no bugs or maintenance in two years? wow
- - arbitrary gender roles and stereotypical personalities ._. (e.g. the girls are typically either feisty, but secretly sweet, damsels in distress or overpowered superweapons; the guys are often mean/evil or unwaveringly heroic - always extreme opposites)
- - eps. 14 and 15 somehow got me *really* sad
- - i like the second ending song :)
- - where is their mom?
- - ~4,000 people died due to a virtual reality game, yet virtual reality games are still legal (and popular!) in part 2
- - kirito hasn't been inside his sister's room and seen the massive poster of her elf avatar?
- - people in that elf game take it wayyyyy too seriously. alliances, fear of death, etc.
- - why are most/all the red people bad?
- - can't sigurd just...make a new account?
- - too many boob shots ._. why must women always be reduced to seductresses to get what they want?
- - dungeons and quests aren't instanced?
- - YUI! :333
