  1. social network (twitter, facebook, whatever) policies around abuse, suspensions are terrible but it's exactly what public discourse from 2012 to now would produce. the debate has been dominated by verified users and pundits deeming the mildest criticism or language as "abuse" while lamenting the lack of free speech for 'unpopular' views - calling for users to be banned for swearing but misquoting voltaire to defend bigotry and hatred.
  2. they now cry "why aren't facebook and twitter banning nazis?!" but this system is exactly what they helped produce. plenty of people warned this would be the result. it really wasn't so long ago a lot of these pricks were proclaiming that a society that lets the most heinous views be aired in public is one worth celebrating and defending.
  3. this is exactly what you get when you let a small privileged group of public figures define what 'trolling' and 'abuse' are. we really can't let it happen again
