  1. Ervalt: A superpower of the past. Long, long ago, Ervalt controlled the entire eastern continent. In response to several concurrent rebellions leading to the formation of Govitz, Sivult, and Kalgar, Ervalt eventually was forced to become an island nation to the north, with few holdings on the mainland. As an attempt to expand their influence, Ervalt mounted expeditions into the vast ocean to the west, and found a new continent, which they claimed for themselves. Difficulties in communication and control from the mainland however led to Ersht seceding and forming their own nation. As a result, Ervalt has waned as a power on the world stage. Current day Ervalt is a society of entrepreneurs and scientists, importing raw materials from Ersht and Sivult, and exporting high quality goods to the same. They do have a standing military, and a powerful navy, but do not measure up to either Govitz or Ersht. Ervalt armor technology is second to none.

  3. Sivult: Bordering on the warm southern waters, Sivult is a fertile country and a center of culture and art. As a result, they are extremely wealthy, and have a powerful military. However, the limited scope of the state limits their capacity for both population growth and expansion. Currently, Sivult is under intense pressure from Govitz to capitulate and join the Govitz super state. As a matter of necessity, Sivult has allied itself with Ersht, an alliance which keeps Govitz at bay. Sivult has an industry of tea and coffee and other foodstuffs, exporting goods to Ervalt, Ersht, and even Govitz, though trade with them is often marked by thinly veiled hostilities. Sivult fighters tend to eschew heavy armor due to the heat of their home region.

  5. The Kalgar region: Formerly a soverign nation, the Kalgar region is currently under the rule of Govitz. Thirty years ago, Kalgar had been a rising superpower. With dark, powerful magicks being researched, Kalgar's king decided to push outward and attempt to gain dominion over the entire world. Sivult was almost entirely conquered, and Govitz lost a significant amount of ground as well. However, as Ersht intervened, Kalgar's forces were eventually pushed back into their own borders, to their capital, to the throne room, and, in the end, crushed entirely. The country then became a battleground between Govitz and Ersht, which were fighting to control the defeated nation. After several months of combat, Ersht forces slunk away, leaving Kalgar to be annexed by Govitz. The Kalgar province is now a destitute region of Govitz, subject to heavy taxes and draconian enforcement of the law. Recent changes to law are alleviating these problems somewhat, but those born after the war tend to have heavy resentment for Govitian authority in response to the same's contributions to the extended poverty in the region. The secrets pioneered by Kalgarian Sorcerors were stolen by Ersht and Govitz, and those who researched it in the first place are either dead or languishing in foreign prisons, unable to use their knowledge to return power to Kalgar, for better or worse.

  7. Ersht: A nation built on ideals of independence and personal effort, Ersht is nonetheless ruled by an upper class like any other nation. However, rather than nobility, Ersht is ruled by land owners and wealthy entrepreneurs. Due to the vast mineral and natural resources of the western continent, Ersht became an economic superpower within mere decades of colonization by Ervalt. Heavy taxes being mounted by their home country eventually incentivized Ersht's citizens to break away from their home country, using the difficulty in travelling the sea and transporting soldiers to fight in a foreign country as well as their own massive pool of resources and population to eventually force Ervalt to concede to Ersht's independence. Ersht's power continued to grow, allowing them to build a massive military and navy to keep their borders safe, as well as trading with foreign nations, later including Ervalt in later years after both nations mutual resentment had time to settle. When Kalgar began mounting invasions against other trade partners, Ersht was initially reluctant to step in, but eventually determined that Kalgar was likely to pose a threat to them as well in the future. With this in mind, they joined the foreign war effort, and managed to force Kalgar back into their own borders with the assistance of Govitz, Sivult, and Ervalt. However, before the Kalgarian King's body had even cooled, the Govitz leadership began pressuring Ersht's forces to withdraw. After a short, tense standoff, the Kalgarian War changed to the War of Annihilation, as Kalgar was fought over as if it was a simple trophy. Many more troops died, and though Govitz had taken massive losses as well, public support for the war in Ersht was failing. Eventually, they had no choice but to retreat, allowing Govitz to take control of the region. Not all was wasted however, as relations with Ervalt and Sivult were strengthened, as Govitz had refused to give up land they'd captured from Kalgarian forces and Ersht had come to defend them in an hour of need. Moreover, Ersht Sages were put to work studying the texts and research notes captured from Kalgarian laboratories. Over the next twenty years, they would work to both recreate and improve on the incredible magic that Kalgar had used to almost take control of the eastern continent, even as tensions with Govitz continued to mount again. Ersht has access to the largest Pegasus force on the planet, as the western continent is home to the pegasus race. They have since spread to other nations.

  9. Govitz: A massive supernation to rival Ersht. Thought by researchers to be the birthplace of civilization, Govitz would eventually become one of the major powers through a combination of valuable mineral resources as well as ancient artifacts occasionally being unearthed there. In addition, the country has a strong military tradition, and the capital is one of the coldest places in the world, making invasion difficult if not impossible. Despite turmoil between Ersht and Ervalt, Govitz never saw much reason to involve themselves in such affairs. However, when Kalgar pushed for dominion over the eastern continent, Govitz saw an opportunity. Once it was possible to push Kalgar out of territory they had taken for themselves, Govitz sought to occupy it. When the war had almost ended, however, Ersht stated their intention to annex Kalgar. Unwilling to allow them a foothold on the eastern continent, Govitz first attempted diplomatic means to encourage Ersht to withdraw. When this failed to produce results, Govitz declared war on Ersht, banking on the strategy that same nation had once used to secure their independence from Ervalt to force them to return to their own home. In the end, the bid was successful, and Govitz was content to take the territory they had won during the war and lick their wounds. In the years since, however, international trade was stifled by Sivult and Ervalt. While not military threats to Govitz in the years after the War of Annihilation, the lack of trade partners damaged the Govitian economy, and the Emperor of Govitz saw fit to squeeze whatever he could from the Kalgar province. This course of action bred resentment from the region however, prompting military control to keep the new citizens in check. When the old Emperor passed away to be replaced by his nephew, he elected to relax taxes on Kalgar. Govitz's place on the world stage is still stained by enmity from other nations however and, though they are improving, trade relations are still strained. Govitz is the birthplace of wyverns, and they have the largest wyvern force in the world, though they can be found in all other nations as well.
