- Overview:
- Among Us is a social deduction game. You're either a crewmate (a good guy) or an impostor (a bad guy). The crewmate team's goal is to complete all tasks before the impostor wins or to deduce who the impostor is and eject them from the ship. The impostor's goal is to survive and kill 8 crewmates (assuming it's a 10 player game) before they complete their tasks. This guide will give you the basics on how to play as a crewmate and an impostor.
- Keep in mind that I wrote this guide assuming that you're playing games with only one impostor (but these basics carry over to multiple impostor games).
- Crewmate:
- - If an impostor kills you before you complete all of your individual tasks, you have to complete them as a ghost to get your team closer to winning.
- - Try to come up with a good route to get your tasks completed as quickly as possible.
- - When you find a dead body, always report it otherwise you'll be sus.
- - When you report a body, notify everyone else where you found the body (ex: I found Blue's body at Electrical room).
- - When someone else reports a body, ask "Where did you find the body" rather than "Who is the impostor" because most of the time, the reporter doesn't know the answer to the second question.
- - During the discussion phase, you can see who reported the body via a microphone icon next to the player.
- - If impostor sabotages the reactor or oxygen, you have to fix it before the time runs out, or else your team instantly loses.
- - Keep in mind that you can't press the emergency button during a reactor/oxygen sabotage.
- - If you see a player enter/exit a vent, you automatically know they're the impostor, so that's when you should use the emergency button to out them.
- - During the discussion/voting phase, if you don't have definitive evidence regarding the impostor's identity, always skip the vote. If fewer crewmates are alive, the impostor has a higher chance of winning.
- - If it comes down to you and two other players, press that emergency button ASAP. If the impostor kills you or the other crewmate, they win. It's better to risk a 50/50 vote than to lose.
- - After you complete your individual tasks, you can check the cameras, check the admin monitor, or follow a person who you trust.
- - If a player checks the cameras at Security room, they can see certain parts of the map. Experienced impostors will avoid the cameras, so I don't prefer checking the cameras.
- - If a player checks the admin monitor at Admin room, they can see where players are in the entire map. This may sound OP, but there's a huge limitation to this. For example, DarkSlayer is at Security right now. A person checking the admin monitor knows that a player is in Security, but doesn't know that the player there is DarkSlayer. Experienced players use the admin monitor to catch impostors using vents and to catch them in a lie regarding their location during discussion phase.
- - Never random accuse another player without evidence. If someone else accuses a player, always ask the accuser for their reasons. If they provide flimsy reasoning, they could be an impostor trying to throw shade at another player, or just an inexperienced crewmate.
- Impostor:
- - The Sabotage button is your best friend. Use it to delay crewmates from completing their tasks or to get an easy kill on a crewmate who is alone.
- - There are five different types of sabotages: locking doors, a reactor meltdown, an oxygen sabotage, shutting off electricity, and interfering with the communications.
- - Click on an icon with closed doors covered by an X to lock doors to a specific room. When I'm alone with a crewmate, I can lock the doors to the room we're located in, kill them, and escape via a vent for an easy kill.
- - Click on a nuclear icon to cause the reactor to meltdown. I can sabotage the reactor to delay crewmates from completing their tasks since they usually all go to the reactor room to fix the sabotage. Sometimes, I can get lucky kills on crewmates who are alone during this time frame.
- - Click on an icon labeled O2 to sabotage the oxygen. This works in a similar manner to the reactor meltdown, but crewmates have to go to two different rooms to fix this sabotage. I use this for the same reasons mentioned in my previous point.
- - Click on a lightning bolt icon to shut off the electricity. This makes the map darker, making it easier for you to get kills without being seen. Again, all crewmates usually go to the electrical room to restore the electricity, which also delays them from completing their tasks.
- - Click on a radio wave icon to interfere with the communications. This makes it so crewmates can't see their task bar and have to go to the communications room to fix it. Again, this is good for delaying crewmates from completing their tasks.
- - When it comes down to you and two other players, sabotage oxygen and kill one player for a guaranteed win (since they can't press the emergency button during an oxygen sabotage and they usually have to go to two rooms to fix it).
- - During discussion/voting phase, talk/vote like a crewmate would (ask questions like where the body was found, skip vote if nobody suspects anyone for a good reason, etc).
- - When you kill a crewmate, you can report the body yourself to make yourself look less suspicious (if you do this more than once though, experienced players will call you out as impostor for reporting your own bodies and will likely eject you).
- - After killing a crewmate, you can either run away on foot or use a vent. Each comes with their own risks, but using a vent is safer in my opinion. Just be careful that nobody spots you entering/exiting a vent or else you automatically out yourself as an impostor.
- - You will get a fake task bar but you can't do those tasks (since you're the impostor, not a crewmate). You don't have to limit the tasks you pretend to do to the ones on the task bar. You can fake any task you want (there are exceptions though, but I won't talk about it here). Strike a balance between faking doing tasks and killing crewmates.
- - If you see a camera blinking red in your location, it means that someone is checking the cameras.
- - Know your map well so you can find the best kill spots (usually isolated areas. Ex: Electrical room in the Skeld map) and to find the best vent routes (Ex: The vent in Electrical room leads to Security or MedBay room, which is usually a really good vent route for impostors in the Skeld map).
- Sorry if this guide was a bit repetitive or long. DM/Ping me on Discord or Twitch if you have any questions. I hope this guide helped you!
