Hey...are you awake?

You always look so peaceful when you’re sleeping. Like you’ve never had a care in the world.

I know you’ve been stressed out lately and you need the rest.

I’m glad you’re getting it.

[Kiss to the partner’s shoulder.]

[Slight pause]

You’re very special to me , baby. Even though we don’t really talk about it...you are.

Most younger guys, when they attract the “attention” of an older woman, they act all cocky. So full of themselves. It’s really rather insufferable.

[Skin stroking, loving and gentle.]

Not you, though.

You are just as shy, and sweet, and endearingly adorable as you were the first day I saw you in that coffee shop. You turned the most perfect shade of red when I asked to buy you a drink, like you didn’t know how to handle a woman showing interest.

You really are precious, you know that?

I remember a few weeks ago when you came over after a bad day, and you immediately made a blanket burrito out of yourself and put your pretty little head in my lap. I think you were awake for maybe ten minutes before falling asleep. [Giggle]

[Longish pause, calm breathing and skin stroking. Next part is said with less confidence.]

I think that was when I realized I wanted this to be more than casual.

That was my rule before you. Casual. Easy.

But then you happened.

So wonderfully vulnerable, and gentle, and kind, and loving…

The way you always try to do anything you possibly can for anyone who could possibly need it. The way you constantly find small things to do to cheer me up when I’m feeling down. The way you curl up in my lap like a kitten when the world gets to be a little too much for you.

You are so strong, my sweet boy. And even you need someone to hold you and tell you everything will be okay, to tell you that you are loved and cherished and cared for. I want to be that person for you…

Maybe, soon, I’ll tell you as much.

I could wake you up now and tell you, but no. You look too peaceful. Too warm and cuddled up.

[Sheets rustle as partner begins to move around a little]

Babe? Are you okay?

Here, roll over so I can hold you better.

You need your rest, I know you have a busy day tomorrow. Is there anything I can do for you?

Hmmmm you really are half asleep. Rest, sweet boy.
