Notes:
- Metagross sweeps many teams by itself, but it has a few common weaknesses. Skarmory is the obvious switch-in on Earthquakes, which are usually easy to predict. Fire Pokemon are much trickier, as they almost always outspeed and OHKO Metagross and Skarmory while hitting Registeel hard. Generally it's best to sacrifice one of them and then send in Registeel, who usually wins from full HP by using Amnesia. Metagross outspeeds a few Fire types thanks to its +Speed nature and max EVs.
- As the lead Pokemon, Metagross works better with Lum Berry than Choice Band, since it can explode freely and switch out less often. (It runs Choice Band in the manipped All Gold Symbols run because it's not the lead and Latios has the Lum Berry.)
- Skarmory lacks its usual defensive prowess since Registeel has Leftovers, so it's given Choice Band to speed things up. Choice Banded Drill Peck hits hard, OHKOing dangerous Pokemon like Machamp and 2HKOing lots of bulky Pokemon. Steel Wing and Hidden Power Ground take care of the Rock types that often threaten Metagross and Registeel with Earthquake.
- Both Metagross and Skarmory fear Counter users, but Registeel usually beats them.
- Registeel runs Seismic Toss instead of Toxic because too many Poison and Steel types threaten Metagross and Skarmory (particularly Counter users).
- Registeel is so bulky that it can often switch play with Skarmory to PP stall Earthquakes and other dangerous moves. Example with a low HP Skarmory facing Whiscash4: Switch to Registeel (Surf does 20% damage, Leftovers heals 6%), Protect (EQ/Fissure, Leftovers heals 6%), switch to Skarmory (EQ/Fissures), repeat until Whiscash is out of EQs and Fissures. Then Registeel can Rest and clean up with Seismic Toss.
