  1. Dear Ms. Susan Rhodes -
  2.
  3. i am writing to oppose the proposed change of the legal definition of gender. this change is an erosion of my civil rights. if gender is defined by the nation as merely the sex i was born as, i will lose my freedom. i will be in fear once again of being accosted by people checking my ID - from bartenders to TSA agents to judges - including bias and harassment
  4.
  5. im straight-up afraid, Ms. Rhodes. im afraid of getting an M on my passport for eternity, sure, but im more afraid of what this means for my Civil Rights. im afraid of what it would mean if the government denies my personhood, which necessarily includes the gender i am. im afraid of how close this looks to how Nazi Germany labeled my Jewish ancestors with yellow stars labeled "Jude", when i, clearly a woman, have a government mandated label on all my identification and records indicating M - indicating that im trans. im afraid of what happens next - from transphobic people around, yes, and also from a government that increasingly seems to want to put me in danger
  6.
  7. i know that you have power to shape this policy. to influence whether it's able to become a reality, and failing that to influence how it is enforced in New England. everything you can do will help me and the hundreds of thousands of other trans people in the nation and New England
  8.
  9. please oppose this change of the legal definition of gender, and please fight to prevent enforcement of policies that would erode the Civil Rights of trans people
  10.
  11. Sincerely,
  12. [name]
