“Remember how I told you not to run when things get tough?” Octavia asked. “Forget it.”

They ran. The Ravagers screeched. One dove and hovered in front of them, its wings beating the air, blocking their way to the airbus. Octavia drew her long dagger and Velvet pulled out her camera.

Octavia raised an eyebrow. “Really?”

Velvet smiled. Few at Shade had seen Velvet use Anesidora, both because hard-light Dust was extremely scarce these days with the Atlas embargo, and because Coco always liked to preserve the element of surprise. She called Velvet Team CFVY’s secret weapon, which was actually true since everyone just thought Velvet liked taking pictures.

Some students in the know were also a little uncomfortable with the idea that she was copying their weapons and mimicking their moves with her photographic memory.

But right now Velvet had a better idea. She held up her camera and pressed the shutter button. The camera clicked and the bulb on top flashed, flooding the canyon ahead of them with stark white light.

The Ravager screeched and flapped away, lurching to the right, disoriented. It crashed into the side of the quarry and tumbled to the ground.

“Nice!” Octavia cheered.
