Equip Swap Clarification

On the control stick input:
One method of equip swap I've seen suggested recently is to e.g. put your cursor on the desired item, tab away from the item page, hold the control stick while the menu is scrolling (such that the control stick input scrolls you back), and then time only the C button press.  Here's why this is a bad idea -- whether or not the equip swap works will depend on when you started holding the control stick.  If you were to make the stick input on a random frame during the menu scroll, you would have a 1/3 chance of actually being able to equip swap, because only 1 out of 3 frames work.  This means that you're going from needing to make a 30fps frame-perfect input on both stick and button to needing to make 2 separate 30fps frame-perfect inputs, making the trick roughly twice as difficult.

Another thing I should mention is that starting the control stick input on the same frame you scroll off of the item/mask screen is *not* in the 1/3 of the frames that work.

This applies to both MM and OoT.

On failing the trick:
I've seen debate from multiple sources as to whether or not you need to put your cursor back over the item if you fail the equip swap.  This differs a little bit between the games: in OoT, you always need to move your cursor back over the item.

In MM, however, because the menu scrolls more quickly, if you tab off of the item or mask screen on the first possible frame (which is the frame you should be making the equip swap inputs), you will leave that screen while preserving your cursor's item value.  Because this can happen occasionally in MM, I think some people incorrectly concluded that you never need to reselect the item -- you're almost always going to need to.  If you're trying to intentionally get this frame-perfect menu scroll, you'll know that you got it if the cursor never actually shows up on the page you've tabbed away from.
