  4. Today you will do a debate in class.
  5.
  6. Optional homework: read the plan on Bernie Sanders’s website for making tuition free in the US, and think of additional positive and negative arguments. https://berniesanders.com/issues/its-time-to-make-college-tuition-free-and-debt-free/
  7. ---
  8. Opening Statement 1: In your group, put together an opening statement (about 1 paragraph worth). Pro-free-tuition goes first.
  9.
  10. Cross-examination: Anti team - take 2-3 minutes to counter the points in the opening statement. Pro team - anticipate objections they might have and prepare responses to them. (Choose one person from each team for this step.)
  11.
  12. Opening statement 2: Take another 5 minutes to prepare the Anti-free-tuition opening statement (Pro team think of the reasons you expect them to present, and how you can counter them.)
  13.
  14. Cross-examination: Pro team - 2-3 minutes to respond to their opening statement. Anti team - anticipate the objections they’ll have and how you can respond to it.
