  5. Hmm... No, that wouldn't work... Would it?|\n
  6. I don't know... There's a lot to consider...|
  7. \s[-2]
  8.
  9. \f[6|Helizabel]\m[6|5]\w[8]
  10. \s[5]
  11. Oh!\r[2] Pelly, sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt you.|
  12.
  13. \s[2]
  14. Hi, Eliza. It's fine, I wasn't doing\n
  15. anything that important anyway.|
  16.
  17. \s[5]
  18. Really? You hid that little notebook\n
  19. as soon as you realized I was here.|\e[5|1]\n
  20. Keeping secrets are we, little brother?|
  21.
  22. \s[2]
  23. Er... Maybe? I'd rather not share\n
  24. until everything is finalized.|
  25.
  26. \s[5]\e[5|0]
  27. Oh, I was just teasing, I respect your\n
  28. privacy. You have no obligation to share\n
  29. your diary with me. I certainly wouldn't.|
  30.
  31. \s[2]
  32. This isn't a diary. Well, maybe it is?\n
  33. I don't really know what specifies a\n
  34. diary from just a regular note journal...|
  35.
  36. \s[5]
  37. Pelly, you're overthinking things again.\n
  38. Regardless, if you'd like my opinion\n
  39. on what you've written down, you can feel\n
  40. free to share with me when you're ready.|
  41.
  42. \s[2]\e[2|1]
  43. All right, thanks Eliza. Well, I should\n
  44. get back to this... I'll talk to you later.|
  45.
  46. \s[5]\e[5|1]
  47. All right, see you later!|
  48. \s[-2]
  49.
  50. \f[2|nil]\w[16]
  51.
  52. \e[5|0]
  53. \s[5]
  54. I've never seen him so secretive before...\n
  55. Now I really am curious as to what he's\n
  56. writing down in that journal of his...|\n
  57. Ah well, If he wants to share, he will.\n
  58. No use in stressing about it for now.|
  59. \s[-2]
  60.
  61. \r[5]\w[32]
  62.
  63. \s[5]
  64. What if it's about a girl... Merlina?\n
  65. Or someone else entirely? Ooh! Pelly...|
  66. \s[-2]

  71. \s[5]
  72. This is very strange, Pelly; pulling me away\n
  73. to this discreet location. What's going on?|
  74.
  75. \s[2]
  76. Er, well I was going to talk to you about\n
  77. what I've been jotting down recently.|\n
  78. And due to the contents, I'd prefer if no\n
  79. one else was aware of what's written yet.|
  80.
  81. \s[5]\e[5|1]
  82. You've got me on the edge of my seat. So,\n
  83. what's the big reveal? I have many guesses.|
  84.
  85. \s[2]
  86. You're going to laugh...|
  87.
  88. \s[5]
  89. Maybe I will, but I'll try not to!|
  90.
  91. \s[2]
  92. I've been working on a plan for the\n
  93. Merovian Alliance. Specifically, for a\n
  94. formal unification of the territories.|
  95.
  96. \s[5]\e[5|0]
  97. ... Oh.|
  98.
  99. \s[2]
  100. I know, I know; it's stupid to try and\n
  101. figure something like this out right\n
  102. now when we're still fighting Avilion.|
  103.
  104. \s[5]
  105. Er, no Pelly, there's nothing wrong with\n
  106. planning for the future... I just thought\n
  107. you were planning for something else.|
  108.
  109. \s[2]
  110. Huh? Is there something else I need to consider?|
  111.
  112. \s[5]
  113. Pay me no mind. Anyway, what are your ideas?|
  114.
  115. \s[2]
  116. All right, well one of the major reasons for the\n
  117. Alliance's dissolution was representation.|\n
  118. Lord Urien and those who supported him wanted\n
  119. more of a say in what happened in their own\n
  120. lands without needing approval from the others.|\n
  121. I was thinking we could have two separate levels\n
  122. of governing. Something at the state level, and\n
  123. something else on a more national level.|
  124.
  125. \s[5]
  126. I see... Who would be working on resolutions\n
  127. within territories then? Surely you don't\n
  128. mean to make every Marquess a pseudo-king.|
  129.
  130. \s[2]
  131. That's where the noble houses of each territory\n
  132. come in. Each house would have a representative\n
  133. vote, and the people would have one as well.|\n
  134. The Marquess would serve as a moderator as well\n
  135. as a tie-breaker in the event one is needed.|
  136.
  137. \s[5]
  138. You said the people have one as well,\n
  139. this is an elected representative then?|
  140.
  141. \s[2]
  142. That's right, meaning under normal circumstances,\n
  143. the noble house representatives would be static,\n
  144. while the people's would rotate every few years.|
  145.
  146. \s[5]
  147. That does heavily skew the power in the hands\n
  148. of the nobility. Is that what you think is wise?|
  149.
  150. \s[2]
  151. Well, that's where the marquess comes into play,\n
  152. as they're there to ensure a fair and just system.|\n
  153. Besides, when it comes to national procedures,\n
  154. all of the noble houses gain one vote total, while\n
  155. the people still have their own. Equal grounds.|
  156.
  157. \s[5]
  158. An interesting system... I'd love to hear more,\n
  159. but I think I have a meeting to attend.|
  160.
  161. \s[2]
  162. Of course! Sorry to talk your ear off. I just\n
  163. haven't discussed this with anyone else yet.\n
  164. Do you have any strong opinions so far?|
  165.
  166. \s[5]
  167. Well, I haven't heard everything, so this seems\n
  168. like a good start, but I don't think giving the\n
  169. nobility that much more power is a good idea.|\n
  170. Especially since there isn't an equal amount of\n
  171. noble houses in every territory. Some may have\n
  172. only three or four, others have up to eight.|
  173.
  174. \s[2]
  175. Hmm... Fair points... I'll see what I can\n
  176. do in the mean time. Sorry to keep you, Eliza.|
  177.
  178. \s[5]\e[5|1]
  179. No need to apologize, Pelly. Thank you for sharing.|
  180. \s[-2]
  181.
  182. \f[2|nil]\w[16]
  183.
  184. \s[5]\e[5|0]
  185. I will say though, I was expecting\n
  186. something entirely different...|
  187. \s[-2]
  188.
  189. ## Battle
  190. \f[2|Pellinore]
  191. \s[2]
  192. Eliza! Do you have a moment?|
  193. \s[-2]
  194.
  195. \f[5|Eliza]
  196. \s[5]
  197. I suppose I can spare some time, as\n
  198. long as we're away from the action.|\n
  199. What do you need, Pelly?|
  200.
  201. \s[2]
  202. Er, well I was going to talk to you about\n
  203. what I've been jotting down recently.|
  204.
  205. \s[5]\m[5|5]
  206. Oh! I completely forgot about that!|
  207.
  208. \s[2]
  209. Due to the contents, I'd prefer if no\n
  210. one else was aware of what's written yet.|\n
  211. I figured this would be a good time.|
  212.
  213. \s[5]\e[5|1]
  214. You've got me on the edge of my seat. So,\n
  215. what's the big reveal? I have many guesses.|
