How to create a Sim in Sims 4
In a show of hands, how many of you have heard of the Sims 4? How many of you have played? Today I will be helping you through the beginning steps. The first step is creating your playable sim. Creating a sim can be complicated if you don’t have experience. Therefore, I will walk you through the steps of choosing a walk, giving traits, and naming your sim. Then, after that I will talk you through changing their body, face, and hair. Lastly, I will be showing you the types of outfits and how to pick a basic everyday outfit. Now that we’ve covered all the steps, I’ll begin teaching you how to make your sim.
First, you’ll need to boot up your computer and let the game the game load. Once your game has finished loading there is a button that says, “New game” and you’ll click on that and enter creator mode. When entering creator mode within the game you’ll be greeted by a screen that already has a random sim. From there, you can decide to keep that sim, or you can choose to edit this sim to make it your own. On the first screen, you are given the option to edit: Name, gender, age, voice, walk, and traits. Instead of us leaving the random sim, we are going to make our own.
We’re going to start with the name. We are going to click on the “Hello my name is…” box and then enter your sims name. Our sim today, for demonstration purposes, is going to be named, John Cena. After you name your sim, you’re going to give him a walk style. There are ten walk styles, and we will be using the swagger style, which is fourth from the top in the drop-down bar.
On the left of the walking styles, you’ll see ages. From left to right you have ages they span from toddler to elder. John Cena is an adult, so we are going to choose the adult option. After you’ve given their age, you’ll choose their voice range.  To select a desired voice range, you’ll choose from the bar below age and gender. You’ll pick any of the icons, and then you’ll move the slider bar from one side to the other. The sides range from low to high. For this sim, he will be given a low, trumpet-like voice.
Next, you’ll elect your sims aspiration and traits. Adult sims get one aspiration and three traits. We’re going to base this sim off the real-life John Cena. What we know is that he was a WWE fighter, so for his aspiration, we’re going to select the athletic option, and there is only one option within athletics, which is body building. For his traits, we’ll be choosing from three of the four categories. We’ll select active from the emotional trait, ambitious from the lifestyle trait, and last outgoing from the style trait. Each one of these traits will play a big role in your sims life as they interact with their environment.
After you finish their traits, you’ll begin to fashion their looks. Starting with your body type, you can make your sim muscular or lanky, and then you’ve the option to give them curves or no curves. We’re going to make our sim muscular, so we’re going to drag the bar on the left up to the top. Then, instead of messing with the slider on the right, we’re going to leave it as is because it’s suiting for this sim. However, you can drag it in whichever direction to give your sim curves, or to keep them without curves.
The next part to edit is his face. For a more advanced path, you can use detail edit mode. This allows you to bring in or out parts of a sims face to an extent. You also can choose from premade faces, which is what was used to create the characters face. Within this section you can also choose a skin tone that ranges from natural to unnatural tones. After you’ve selected your sims facial features, you can pick their hair style. Sims can come with many hairstyles. They can be bald, or they can have long hair. After you’ve chosen a haircut, you can decide if your sim wears a hat or not.
Once you’ve finished selecting your desired looks and a hair style, you can create a sim’s outfit. There are 8 categories of outfits that you can create for a sim. These out fits range from every day to cold weather. We will be choosing this sim’s everyday outfit. You can pick certain parts of the outfit, or you can choose from styled looks. Once you’ve chosen one outfit (or all eight) you can either add more sims to your household or you can begin game play. To begin game play with your newly created sim, you’ll click the check mark button in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and place your sim within the world.
That is how you create a sim in sims 4. Going over it, it doesn’t seem too complicated. You just need to remember the basics of making a sim and what they include. The basics included type of walk, gender, voice, traits, facial and body features, hair, and choosing an outfit. Once you’ve completed these steps by hand you can begin.
