“I’m picking up an energy signal.” Tails checked a handheld device that booped rapidly. “Knuckles must be pursuing us. We’ve got to make a move!” Ahead, a blinking traffic light turned red.

“Red light! Red light!” Sonic shouted, and pulled the wheel hard. They swerved around the corner just in time to miss oncoming traffic. And in the rearview, Sonic saw Knuckles for a split second. He was galloping along down the street, his fists digging chunks out of the pavement.

“Maybe we can lose him?” the hedgehog mused.

Sha-Boom! The red menace smashed through a water truck behind them, bursting the tranquility of Green Hills and sending townsfolk screaming.
