  1. The_Weasel & others @ Anonops Present:
  2.
  3. The Answer to SOPA!!!!!!
  4.
  5. SOPA (the Stop Online Piracy Act) essentially allows ISPs to block entire domains because a piece of hosted content infringes copyright. It puts power in the hands of the entertainment industry to censor sites that allegedly "engage in, enable or facilitate" copyright infringement. This language vague enough to encompass sites you use every day, like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, making SOPA a serious problem.
  6.
  7. People everywhere are working furiously to STOP SOPA! We certainly hope SOPA is stopped. But we, the Anonymous Legion, are interested only in the best interest of the freedom of the internet, and that means we must make plans to deal with the hurdle of SOPA.
  8.
  9. So let's look at HOW they expect to accomplish this task. SOPA will work by redirecting domain names such as Youtube.com to a "SOPA page", presumably talking about how the site was banned. The re-directing of DNS is only controlled on major DNS servers, so the use of "CensorNet DNS" will come into play.
  10.
  11. The answer is simple. We will host our own DNS, and allow websites which have been SOPA'd to register with our DNS system.
  12.
  13. For the Tech Savvy:
  14.
  15. Here's the blueprint: We set up a well known website, and spam the IP everywhere. Tell EVERYONE, make videos, tweet, message board it, hand out flyers on the street. Hell, spray paint it on billboards and highways. Make SURE you tell the websites that may get SOPA'd and have been SOPA'd. We may lose a few, but if we spam this IP enough, the ones we miss will find us. This IP we are spamming will serve several purposes, but #1, it will host a browser-based searchable "database" (as to the type, debatable still) that will "resolve" domain names by keyword, allowing people to type, for example, youtube, and be directed to the correct IP via hyperlink or other methods. Secondly, it will serve as an intake for websites who have been "SOPA'd" to register their IP address with out service. in a tertiary function, a DNS server mirror collection point - see below:
  16.
  17. Those who have the desire and capability to help in the program are encouraged to configure DNS servers and download a list of IPs from our main IP regularly. Form a network of private DNS servers and we will keep track of the I.P. updates by means of version number. An automatic update system is in development. The more DNS servers we have, the better. The more people who use private DNS as opposed to our browser-based system, the faster our system will be for those who don't know anything about computers and dont have access to people who can change their DNS servers to private DNS servers.
  18.
  19. This will be a network of integrity. If you are going to start a DNS server, make sure you can keep it running. Also, stay honest. Yeah....that's a real important one. Stay honest, and don't keep any logs. No. Logs. Ever.
  20.
  21. For the Un-Savvy:
  22.
  23. We realize that when talking about ALL citizens of America and other countries, we are sometimes talking about those who have NO IDEA what a DNS is all about. We have an answer for you folks, too!
  24.
  25. Simply write down or remember one IP address, that is a number in the form of this example: 188.185.2.19 <--- or something like that. Type that where you would normally have typed "facebook.com" in your browser window.
  26.
  27. Use a google-like search feature to find your SOPA'd website, click the link, enjoy freedom once more!!
  28.
  29. We can all thank Uncle Sam for the inconvenience of needing to do something like this. An extra step is always a step backward. Just remember who supported SOPA every time you pull your wallet out.
