   yang yichao is what you would call a natural leader: it's easy for him to take charge in perilous situations. it's normal for him to draw out a plan, lay it down on the table, and say firmly, "this is the way we're going to do it", regardless of how far-fetched his ideas are.  no matter how much you don't like the way he wants things to be, his smooth communication skills and subtle persuasions will have the whole group agreeing on his idea.
   he's proved himself as a useful tool in missions, not only as a leader but as a communicator. his knowledge in mandarin, cantonese, russian and english can prove helpful when tackling foreigners, like when he persuaded a chinese security guard to let them inside the building. despite this, you'll never find him doing the talking when faced with koreans; he leaves it up to kinky and sweetheart to do the work.
   he can also be a bit hot-tempered at times, even if you haven't done anything wrong. you can tell he's in a mood when he sits down, crosses his arms and won't reply to anything. this kind of behaviour happens several times a week, and the rest of the members have accepted this as some kind of weekly routine. god help you if it happens during a mission; you'll be greeted with instructions in the form of high-pitched shouting, and if he needs you to go anywhere, he'll take you by the arm sharply and simply drag you.
   occasionally, these emotions will spiral out of control. when this happens, it's best to shove him in his room and leave him alone. eventually, he'll fall asleep no matter what the time is. this usually happens after he throws all the feathers from his pillow around the room, realises he's going too far, and decides to take a nap on the floor. that also means the room is occupied for the next 12 hours, so his roommate is forced to sleep in the living room.
   he's also a major hypocrite. you leave things to the last minute? you'll get shouted at. if he leaves things to the last minute, it's because he's stressed, he's got a lot of things on his mind and you can shut your mouth promptly. you say something incriminating on public tv? he'll sit you down and lecture you. if he does it? it wasn't his fault, let it go. if you drop your ice cream, shut the fuck up, it's just an ice cream. if he drops his ice cream, the world must stop what they're doing and get him  a new one immediately. living with yichao is like living with a giant baby.
   he also refuses to admit when he's wrong, most of the time. he will churn out tons of excuses just so you can't get a word in edgeways, make a loud noise and sit in another room to "think things through". he accepts that he's problematic, but makes no move to change his behaviour.
   all of the above means he's basically a walking meme for the fans, who often refer to him as 'no chill chao'. airport previews of blackout pose as new material for yichao memes, as it's possible to compare his green hair and orange jacket to a carrot. he pretends not to be bothered by the memes, but secretly has them saved to his phone, and he likes to look at them when he's sad.
   he also goes out of his way to embarrass others, like when he was on skype with his sister, giving her a tour of the dorm, and said very loudly, "whoever that is touching yourself in the bathroom, i can hear you!" in reality, all the other members were in the living room, and yichao had to climb out the window in order not to get hit. it's been said that he enjoys laughing at others so when others laugh at him, he feels good about it.
   those who don't know yichao see him as serious and straightforward. it's hard not to agree with that when in public, he's usually sitting with his legs crossed, wearing sunglasses, sipping a starbucks with no expression on his face. he doesn't make much noise in front of people he doesn't know, preferring to communicate using eye and body language (if that's even possible). he's the type of guy you don't want to sit next to on the bus, because you're intimidated by his unwelcoming stature and blank facial expression.
   when in the company of girls, he's well aware of them, and goes the extra mile just to look eligible. he'll often flirt with them jokingly, comment on people walking by, and generally act like a rich hoe, who's good looking and knows it very well. this kind of behaviour only happens with girls, and it's very entertaining to watch him like that.
   now, despite his icy aura, and problematic attitude toward most people, he often shows his soft, caring side, but only in front of his members and love interest. when he's not pissed off, or leading a mission, he's the softest bean you'll ever know.
   after coming home from practise, or from a performance, he'll throw on his favourite red sweater, curl up in a ball on the sofa and watch stranger things on netflix. you're not allowed to disturb him, unless you're coming to give him hot chocolate, or you're gonna snuggle with him. after this, he's guaranteed to be happy, and trust me, yichao's smile is the cutest thing you've ever seen.
   he's actually in touch with his caring side, but it doesn't show through in front of people. if it did, people would get suspicious, because he wouldn't be behaving like the yichao they know. you can tell it's showed if you fall asleep on the couch and wake up with a blanket around you; or if you can't afford the jacket you really wanted from the shop, and you find it sitting on your bed after a day's practise. there's a 99% chance yichao put it there. if you ask who it was, he'll smile and whisper, "it was the fairies". one thing to know is not to confront him about it, because he'll suddenly get very flustered, and your chance of being visited by "the fairies" again gets lowered.
   when his caring side actually comes out publicly, it doesn't last long. for example, the time he got into a fight with jump, and said "i love you, man" after making up with him. jump just looked at him weirdly, making yichao say coldly, "what's so interesting, bitch?"
   in short, yichao is a very emotional person. you can catch him in a good mood, or in a bad one. either way, there's nothing stopping you from loving him irrationally.

↠background ;
   yichao was born to a middle class family in the chinese city qiqihar, on the first day of winter in 1995. his mother, lifen, worked as a science technician at his school and his father, wenjin, worked in the chinese branch of an american company. he lived a peaceful life, and made a few friends, playing football in his spare time. he loved qiqihar as it was a massive city and he loved adventures: he'd usually wander off with his friends and worry his parents sick.
   when he reached the age of 10, in 2005, his family moved to khabarovsk, russia, in order to have more than one child. his father transferred branches and his mother worked at another school, fortunately not the one he attended. his younger sister daria-zan was born in early 2006 - he specifically remembers trying to make her first words to be "get bent". he spent a lot of time writing short stories and pinning them on his wall, and would get freaked out when anyone asked what they were about. he found writing about the new city very interesting, and sometimes he'd even wander out to unknown places for inspiration.
   being a foreigner, yichao didn't know much russian to begin with. he gradually picked up russian phrases and got himself the nickname "Декабрь" (dekabr), which means "december". when asked to introduce himself, he said, "я йишао, я мальчик декабря" which means "i am yichao, i am december".
   he made friends with the only other chinese person in the class; adrien wang. adrien taught him russian after school and they became best friends pretty quickly. they often spoke in chinese to each other, and it became some kind of code they used in class - mainly to tell each other the answers in math.
   when yichao turned 18, he made the choice to go to beijing for college. leaving behind his friends and his family, he attended beijing film academy; he never looked back.

↠how did you join the gang and why? ;
   at the age of 18, yichao's girlfriend zhenai broke up with him at 18:35 on july 8, 2013, after a one year relationship. via text.
you could say that yichao was drunk on love - at least, he claimed it was love. he didn't know. the way he saw it, zhenai was the part of his life that he didn't know was missing. he didn't want to see her when he went back to college the next day. in fact, he didn't attend college for the three days that followed. he was too scared of seeing her, because he didn't know what he might do if he did.
   so he transferred colleges; the following september, he started a new semester at hanyang university in seoul, south korea.
   the battle with his parents was a short one. he simply gathered his stuff in a bag, took the midnight train to shenyeng, and stayed at a hotel overnight. the following morning, he took a train to pyongyang in north korea. after crossing the border, he stayed overnight in panmunjeom, and to the final destination, seoul. he spent the night in his university dorm on the phone to his parents, explaining where he was and what he was doing.
   so that was that. a new beginning. he never heard from zhenai again. it didn't matter that his parents were beyond pissed, and that he wasn't exactly off to a good start with his roommate, and that he knew next-to-nothing in korean vocabulary, and that he was still the same distraught, pathetic boy that he was when he was in china. he was known as the new boy at university, and received korean lessons from the nice chinese boy in his tuesday class. he suddenly felt just like he did in russia, new and helpless, and that feeling never really crept away. he never left his university, because he didn't know how to communicate with anyone.
   now, i bet you're wondering, why the fuck isn't this in the background section? because without this shitty decision, yichao wouldn't be in blackout. why?
   after mastering most of the korean language, yichao finally ventured out of the university grounds. he explored the whole city with the first true smile he'd smiled in years. he bought noodles from the street, got strange drinks from vending machines, and talked to pretty women. he loved it. such a smol bean wandering in the street and having fun. by the time this happened, he was about 19, turning 20 that year.
   around 21:00, he was sitting in the park, watching the summer sunset, glancing at the group of several boys who seemed to be fucking around with a can of spray paint. this was the best yichao had felt for a long time.
   one of those boys ended up approaching him awkwardly with a smile on his face, asking why he looked so sad. did yichao look sad? i don't know. he didn't feel like denying a conversation, so they ended up talking for a vERY long time about yichao's past and what he did in china and why he's in south korea now.
   the boy he was talking to looked very interested, even more so when yichao told him he still doesn't feel complete, and no matter what happens he feel uncomfortable and not right. so the boy sighed, and said he knew about the kind of situation yichao was in. "why don't you join us?" he suggested innocently.
   yichao, a sad little human desperate for friends, in his last few months of university, said yes. he didn't really know what the boy meant, but didn't care. so he followed him to an alleyway, not a particularly dark one, but one that looked kind of ominous. they sat him down, and told him everything about what they did, with illegal weapons, and all that. they said if he didn't want to be in it, they'd have to forcefully make him so drunk he'd definitely forget everything, and would even take him to the hospital so he didn't actually die.
   yichao didn't think they were serious, until they showed him a gun, and then he freaked out a bit and had to have some whiskey in order to calm down. they told him everything, about all the crimes they committed for the protection of others; he was impressed, to say the least. and when the day came to a close, after a fair bit of thinking, yichao said with his eyes fixed on the stars, that he wanted to finish university, and join them.
   so that's what he did. he told his parents he was trying to get a job and in the meantime, he was working part time in a shop. when the news first hit that they'd become an idol group, he told his parents he became a trainee under an entertainment company. every time his parents told him about the news of the scarlet thieves, he'd smirk. there he was, living a double life. and he finally felt complete.

   however, yichao is such a dumbass when it comes to hacking, and has to leave it to other members. if you leave him alone with a computer to hack into some system, it's likely he'll abandon his plan and just look up porn.

↠what your character thinks about being an idol? ; yichao didn't really have an opinion when the news first hit him - he thought and thought, and came to the conclusion idol life could be a good thing. he's generally really excited to perform on stage, and to interact with other idols. of course, the burden of being the leader is part of the experience, but he tells himself not to worry, daily. he dislikes the lack of privacy in idol's lives and thinks it could be risky.

↠ roles your character usually partake in missions ; yichao definitely has a set role - being armoured with handguns most of the time, he can't shoot others armed with superior guns. he's in charge of killing people with little or no defense, such as security guards, receptionists, and citizens who are most likely to call the police. he prefers shooting people in the back of the head - after shooting, he'll shout "merry christmas~" no matter what the season. “merry christmas” became the code word he uses when the coast is clear. he's careful to wear gloves on every mission so he doesn't leave fingerprints.

   luna isn't exactly the most self-aware idol, due to the fact that whenever she receives a compliment, she'll deny it. she doesn't seem to recognise any of her talents, which can come across as her being modest, or annoying. she can tell a lot of well structured jokes, but they aren't very handy when faced with yichao, who can burst into fits of laughter by looking at the word "succ". she's very caring, and although she may not show it much, she really wants the best for her friends and family. she's the type of person to miss an important event because she wants to stay home and look after someone when they need it. she's very talkative, but only with people she's comfortable with. being her best friend means you're okay with listening to her rant about her problems for hours on end. she's not the type of person to give in during situations, as she's very strong emotionally. she's basically a tough bean on the outside but on the inside, a squishy bean.

↠ how'd you two meet? ;
   luna and yichao met on a flight, a few months into yichao's career. they had both been given seats next to each other unknowingly; yichao sat the closest to the window. when luna sat down, he thought, "when i get home, i'll tell everyone i sat next to a beautiful girl". they spent the next few minutes in silence, until yichao decided to strike up a conversation with her by asking, "where you flying to?", then realising they're flying to the same place. he didn't realise she was f(x)'s luna until she told him her name was park sunyoung, and he said, "pretty name. just like f(x) luna's, i think" and she said, "silly, i am luna!" she also let him call her 'sunyoung' for the rest of the flight.
   just before they landed, she asked for an autograph ("i've never sat next to an idol on a plane before") and yichao politely accepted, writing not only his signature down but his phone number. he saw her look down at the paper in disbelief, and he winked.
   the next day, he received a text from her, saying how much she enjoyed sitting next to him in the plane. they began texting back and forth for a week, until yichao suggested meeting up sometime, and sunyoung replied with, "it's a date".

   sunyoung // she found him very charismatic. his way of talking and his small smiles were very enchanting. she felt glad to be sitting next to him, for those reasons. as their conversation started to flow, she was enlightened to know that the two of them were very similar. she didn't really care that she was two years his senior.
   yichao // he found her very pretty. that's really all to it. that's the only reason why he started a conversation with her, to converse with a pretty girl and to later brag about it to his members. he thought she was shy and cute and more interesting than he initially expected.

↠how he acts around he/she ;
   at the beginning, yichao acted very charismatic, determined to get "the pretty girl" to like him. he complimented her subtly, for example, how much he loved girls with chestnut coloured hair (her current hair colour). he felt very proud of himself, waltzing out of the plane knowing he just gave a huge celebrity his phone number. when they started talking via text, he felt a little more relaxed with her, sending her videos of the other members being dorks, and she did the same. they talked about idol life together, like the crazy diets, the performances, the fans and whatnot. when yichao told the other members that he was chatting with a girl, they were a little concerned about the privacy aspect, but were mainly interested to know if this girl was real.
   when they finally met up, he ended up blushing a lot, laughing a lot and generally being a bashful lil' bean. he told her everything about the other members, how they fuck up a lot and how they act a little bit too gay sometimes. he felt like they were really connecting, and felt incredibly accomplished when at the end of the "date", she kissed him on the cheek. when they started officially dating, he acted like his normal self, but with a lot more eyesmiles and cutesy compliments in the mornings. he seemed very determined to make the relationship work, and this would occasionally show through.

   at the beginning, sunyoung acted very shy and came off as a sort of submissive girl. she blushed when he complimented her, and laughed at his jokes. she knew he was blackout's yichao from the start, she just didn't want to say anything before he recognised her as luna. when he gave her his number along with the autograph, she smiled to herself and immediately began texting amber, victoria and krystal about her experience.
   she found herself texting his number the next day, and during chats she openly expressed herself, beginning to act very comfortable with him. so when they met up, she felt confident and calm with him, adoring his behaviour that night. her personality didn't change much when they started dating, but she often spoke in a softer tone, and would never have anything to complain about. she recalls herself thinking that she could stare at him all day and never get bored. he made her happier, really.
