- 5:59 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: So, same thing hear. With what's happening on the Keyhole, we're going to want to get going here on what's next. If Wikia can push KHWiki down in SEO, were going to be way underground.
- [6:00 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: We're going to want to make actual plans of what to do so that no one feels overwhelmed, but rather can focus on what they each can do.
- [6:00 PM] Chainoffire: We're lucky to be on googles first page by Jan 29
- [6:00 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Yeah.
- [6:02 PM] Chainoffire: I say focus on KH3 articles, those'll be the most viewed ones.
- [6:02 PM] Chainoffire: Do we want to be me leanient with the trailer policy? That'll seperate us from KHWiki
- [6:04 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: That's one of the big ones. I'm almost certain Wikia's little message implies they'll be writing KHIII articles. If we don't, people will be more willing to trust/visit them over us simply by virtue of them having the pages, even if they're flawed.
- [6:05 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: I say we should be more lenient. The trailers are official. If we make it clear that the articles, like the trailers, are subject to change when the game releases, we shouldn't have issues.
- [6:07 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Another safeguard I've been thinking about is to make it a policy that the unreleased template stays on any such articles until the article has been reviewed by staff or other trusted editors after the game's release, to ensure the content is accurate with the game's actual content.
- [6:08 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: That way, if, say, the Toy Box world actually cuts Woody from it, and we think up until release it doesn't, we still have the fallback that says "Hey, the game just released, the article is still being updated with game info, some content here may still be inaccurate." Kinda like a disclaimer.
- ---JULY 18, 2018---
- [10:06 AM] Draaek: that def sounds doable enough
- [10:07 AM] Draaek: what about speculation tho? and yes, I'm talking about the whole marluxia thing
- [10:07 AM] Draaek: there's been countless people that claim it's true because the trailer shows them with the norted eyes and all
- [10:09 AM] Draaek: would we want to "believe" them until further notice since we'd be technically allowing information from the trailers or be strict about speculation even if that means "ignoring" parts of the trailers as official info
- [10:24 AM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: As far as speculation goes, we'd want to avoid it strictly. If there's something that confirms explicitly that the silver hair/yellow eyes thing is a sign of the Xehanorts, then I think that's be good enough to go from there to "Everyone with yellow eyes is with Xehanort." I don't think we have that confirmation yet, though.
- [10:29 AM] Draaek: :wgr7:
- ---JULY 20, 2018---
- 7:42 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Welp, @everyone I guess I'll just go ahead and dump my ideas here and we can have a continuing discussion, since Chain's the only one that said he'd be available for an actual Roundtable today.
- [7:43 PM] Draaek: 1. links are weird
- [7:44 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Ummm.... which links?
- [7:46 PM] Draaek: on Affiliates you placed a link to the page's talk page, but it's marked as a red link despite the talk page actually exists
- [7:46 PM] Draaek: trying to figure out why is it doing that
- [7:48 PM] Draaek: the link isn't really understanding that it's a talk page and it's instead trying to create a literal new page under the name "KHDatabase talk:Affiliates"
- [7:49 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: The link is spelled incorrectly
- [7:49 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: It was to a page titled KHDatbase talk:Affiliates. It was missing an "a"
- [7:49 PM] Draaek: ...
- [7:49 PM] Draaek: :wgrFAIL:
- [7:50 PM] Draaek: I swear I can read
- [7:50 PM] Draaek: forget I even said a thing
- [7:50 PM] Draaek: AHEM, you may dump your ideas now
- [7:51 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: :kbsSHRUG:
- [7:51 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: ANYWAYS
- [7:51 PM] Draaek: :cahlaShrug:
- [7:51 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: So, I already mentioned the Kingdom Hearts III articles.
- [7:52 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: And the plan for that. I've actually already started on some of them a while back. The new world articles I think are all done
- [7:55 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Eventually, the Unreleased template will also be able to automatically add "Recently-released" category, so that we as admins will be able to check the articles and remove the template if the content is accurate after the release of the game.
- [7:55 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Top ten articles in the category will appear here: http://khdatabase.azurewebsites.net/KHDatabase:Community_Portal/Hall_of_the_Cornerstone(edited)
- [7:57 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: So next: Transcripts.
- [7:58 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: I'm planning on including transcripts for all the games, as well as complete transcripts of interviews as we use them.
- [7:58 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: There are a couple of pages already on the Database with this data.
- [7:59 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: http://khdatabase.azurewebsites.net/Transcript:Kingdom_Hearts_Orchestra_-World_Tour-
- [8:00 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: The Transcript space would replace the quotes-space from the KHWiki, too.
- [8:00 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: http://khdatabase.azurewebsites.net/Transcript:Multiplayer.it_E3_2018_interview
- Transcript:Multiplayer.it E3 2018 interview
- [8:01 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: http://khdatabase.azurewebsites.net/Transcript:Kairi
- [8:02 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: I've been talking to Aquaberry from KH13 for permission to use their interviews, and it seems we have it for the most part. She encouraged me to talk to some of the non-KH13-staff translators, like Goldpanner and SQEXgal for their permission for their interview translations.
- [8:03 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: And I've been working on the KH and KHII transcripts fora little over a month now. Haven't played either in a few weeks.
- [8:03 PM] Draaek: so you want something like this? http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Avatar_(Fates)/Quotes
- [8:08 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: I had thought we could do something like Transcript:Disney Castle
- [8:08 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Would have all the transcripts for Disney Castle
- [8:09 PM] Draaek: but that would be location based
- [8:09 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: And "Transcript:Disney Castle/Cutscene name" for actual cutscenes
- [8:10 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: My thought was that most of Theater Mode is split by world
- [8:11 PM] Draaek: is it? I really haven't gone into that lol
- [8:11 PM] Draaek: only did for 0.2 and it was basically to write down the cutscene titles lol
- [8:12 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Yeah, for the most part they do.
- [8:12 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: I think HD 358/2 Days and HD Re:coded don't. But then, they're just a doofus excuse for a movie.
- [8:13 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: I haven't checked HD 3D or 0.2 myself, though.
- [8:15 PM] Draaek: :wgr7:
- [8:16 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: The next thing is Minigames and Synthesis
- [8:18 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: When I asked around in KeybladeSarah's Discord server for what kind of information they tend to search for when they play the games, they mentioned a few things:
- [8:18 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Sidequests/minigames
- [8:18 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Treasure Chest locations
- [8:19 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Item Synthesis lists
- [8:19 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Which, I think, are probably what you tend to look for if you're playing the game, no matter how long you've played.
- [8:21 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Even though the stats on the KHWiki are cool and important, you're more likely to look for how to synthesize Ultima Weapon before you look up the weaknesses of Ansem in Kingdom Hearts.
- [8:23 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: So somehow, it'd be good to put that information up. Most of it is likely already on the KHWiki, it'd be just a matter of presenting it better.
- [8:25 PM] Draaek: I mentioned this once, but there's basically three types of players:
- 1. casuals: They'll just run straight forward to the end and MAYBE craft the best weapon/armor in the game
- 2. general/accomplishers: Usually the majority of the playerbase, they tend to look out for most treasure chests, fill in a list or two, maybe even fulfill the achievements that don't involve spending crazy amounts of time doing x thing or increasing difficulty
- 3. hardcore, min maxers: Minority, go ham on literally EVERYTHING. Getting all the achievements, trophies, basically 100% the game and even replay on harder difficulties for a challenge
- [8:25 PM] Draaek: the way I see it, KHWiki appeals more to #3
- [8:26 PM] Draaek: we should aim for 2.
- [8:27 PM] Draaek: keyhole really felt like it was on level 1, since we didn't even have synth lists or anything like that and it all was redirected to KHWiki so we mostly offered a general rundown of the game and plot
- [8:31 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Yeah.
- [8:33 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: I think it'd be good to eventually have the content for the third kind of people. There will be plenty that will want to platinum the game before KHIII. But none of the stats for individual enemies really gets us there. Most of the people that want to make that goal don't care that a given enemy has a weakness to fire, only what will help them to take on all the Mushroom XIII.(edited)
- [8:37 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: One of the things related to that which I hope to add is the ability list for each choice taken in Dive to the Heart. The KHWiki doesn't have that, and it annoys me.
- [8:38 PM] Draaek: we need to find a balance between "giving players all the tips and info they need to plat a game" and "we're over saturating the players and pages with a bunch of information that almost no one will use"
- [8:38 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Yeah, for sure.
- [8:39 PM] Draaek: I agree on the options stuff, sometimes we want to know ahead if time what the choices will cause
- [8:39 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Definitely, the goal here is to be a resource people will want to turn to for help and can find that help easily. I feel the KHWiki has a lot of that help, but it's hard to find.
- [8:43 PM] Draaek: agreed
- [8:43 PM] Draaek: sometimes they don't even have what we're looking for lol
- [8:45 PM] Draaek: you know what would be cool? to conduct a poll of sorts like the one you did with that other discord server but with more people/players we know are on one of those levels and see what THEY want to see when they come to a wiki
- [8:45 PM] Draaek: could give us some ground as to what is truly important to have and what's just a filler
- [8:46 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Yeah. I meant to ask more people. But then I never got to it.
- [8:49 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Related to that is coverage on Kingdom Hearts Union X.
- [8:49 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: I really don't have much to say on this other than we probably should figure out what's important to those who are playing it and cover that. I honestly haven't played in like two months.
- [8:50 PM] Draaek: I never played it
- [8:50 PM] Draaek: and I think everyone else here kinda doesn't play anymore sooo.... we might need some extra help on this
- [8:50 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Particularly, I think the story would be good to cover. If/When we figure the story out.
- [8:51 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: XD
- [8:52 PM] Draaek: that thing has story?! :cahlaDerp:
- [8:52 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Yes. And it's canon
- [8:52 PM] Draaek: :wgrHORR:
- [8:52 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: My guess is it ties whatever comes next after Kingdom Hearts III
- [8:52 PM] Draaek: that's just.... weird
- [8:52 PM] Draaek: aaaaaaaactually no it's not, I take it back
- [8:53 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: It's supposed to tie into Kingdom Hearts III.
- [8:53 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: But lately, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
- [8:53 PM] Draaek: was going to say "who makes an online game be canon to a story?? online games get updated often, and almost always HAVE to get updated for years or they stop being played"
- [8:53 PM] Draaek: but then I looked at eso
- [8:54 PM] Draaek: which is basically that lol
- [8:54 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: XD
- [8:56 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: As smaller items, I was thinking of doing a "On this day" kinda feature, but I haven't worked on it yet.
- [8:57 PM] Draaek: those are a bit hard to do
- [8:58 PM] Draaek: mainly since we really need to be on top with the dates and everything
- [8:58 PM] Draaek: and well, we'd need to work on the timer so it auto updates instead of us manually making the change every day
- [8:58 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: I feel as we work on the games, we'll find events that are significant in KH history and just add it as we go.
- [8:59 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: And yeah, I have an idea for how the templates work, I just haven't worked on it.
- [8:59 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: (As an example of dates: 26 September marks the 17th Anniversary of the first Kingdom Hearts demo, which was available at TGS 2001)
- [8:59 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Learned that while writing the Kingdom Hearts article.
- [9:00 PM] Draaek: hmm, that could def work
- [9:00 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: The KH3Premiere took place on the same day that Kingdom Hearts was first revealed at E3 2001 seventeen years ago.
- [9:02 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: We could add stuff like VA actors birthdays or such, too. The important thing is just making the templates work.
- [9:02 PM] Draaek: ^
- [9:02 PM] Draaek: aka, sometimes the hardest part
- [9:05 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: The only other thing I've been working on was staff stuff. Quick question before I share it. What do you like to do most on the wiki? Like, on the Keyhole, what was it you liked to do most? Or felt you were most good at?
- [9:06 PM] Draaek: chain imported our staff text afaik
- [9:06 PM] Draaek: which is still true, I lurk and watch the RC like 99% of the time
- [9:07 PM] Draaek: the other 1% is reverting false stuff or uploading better quality images when possible
- [9:07 PM] Draaek: (or when aix had me do that for his projects lol)
- [9:14 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Because here's basically my idea for staff, and it'd work best once we get more people. I figured there were four-five different areas that we could focus on to adminster over the Database: Community, Content, News, and Public Relations.
- [9:15 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: My thinking is, the community lead would be in charge of anything related to community events, the forums. Theoretically, a Discord server if we were to have our own. Stuff like that.
- [9:17 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: The content leader would be in charge of making sure the articles and other content on the Database would be okay, adhering to policies. Kinda like what you do.
- [9:17 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: News is just in charge of the news team.
- [9:17 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: And public relations is stuff like affiliations.
- [9:21 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Chain told me back in April, apparently the KHWiki had a contact at SE. So that's one of our goals, and the public relations person would be in our link to that person.
- [9:22 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: And then most of those people would have, like, other people that would help them. So it's not all just the one person.
- [9:23 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: The idea behind this is, I feel most people are more likely to help out if they have a specific assignment to help. Simply saying "This is a list of all the things we need to get done, pick and do all that you want/can do" hasn't worked in the past on the KHWiki. Operation:Keychain is a pretty good example of that.
- [9:24 PM] Draaek: lol yea
- [9:24 PM] Draaek: our attention span isn't very good apparently
- [9:24 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: But making it possible for people to have specific assignments that they feel gives them opportunities to lead will more likely encourage them to do it.
- [9:26 PM] Draaek: that sounds cool
- [9:26 PM] Draaek: maybe we could actually have an "in training" role for those who might want to help but dont know where they'd fit best
- [9:26 PM] Draaek: or for those we think would be a good addition to the team but want to ensure they can keep up with the roles we have
- [9:29 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Yeah, we could do that, too.
- [9:31 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: So here's how I was thinking of setting it up, and I'm sure it's overly ambitious, but bear with me.
- [9:31 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš:
- [9:33 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: So, you'd be the content leader. Or admin. I had originally written down Content Administrator.
- [9:33 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: FinalRest would be the Community Lead
- [9:33 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Aixon would be the News Team Lead
- [9:33 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: And Chainoffire is already self-appointed as the PR Rep.
- [9:34 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: XD
- [9:35 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: I never figured out what/how to give myself a job. I'm, like, involved in everything, so :kbsSHRUG:
- [9:36 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: They're mostly based on what Chain brought over from The Keyhole, so that's what I came up with.
- [9:38 PM] Draaek: I SHALL RULE THE WIKI :wgrRAID:
- [9:46 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Right now, I'm thinking of a more journalistic title and went with MASTER ADMINISTRATOR
- [9:46 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: XD just kidding
- [9:47 PM] Draaek: :wgrGLARE:
- [10:02 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: Anyways. After spending time thinking about it and coming up with nothing.
- [10:02 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: That's all I got right now.
- [10:09 PM] āKeybladeSantaMasterš: So yeah. You all can tell me what you think. I hope you don't feel too overwhelmed; I just want to make sure we take advantage especially with the launch of KHIII in just a few months, to get our name out there before the wave of hype dies off.
- [10:11 PM] Draaek: :wgr7:
- [10:13 PM] Draaek: one last thing KSM, could you pin each of the topics? so it's a bit faster for the rest to reach your proposals even if they're buried by messages here
- [10:14 PM] Draaek: so basically, your first message about KH3 articles, the one where transcripts is bolded, bolded minigames and synthesis, bolded UX and the first staff message
