- I was at home,
- alone,
- out of the corner of my eye
- I saw a bright flicker.
- I put down my book and walked to the window.
- there,
- as I looked out the window,
- the fire blazed with intense hatred and the intent to scare.
- I watched in momentary blankness,
- the fire that consumed the cross.
- the cross.
- realization consumed me,
- and finally came to mind,
- that those racist pigs,
- are burning a cross.
- I wish my mother was here,
- but she’s at the concert with father.
- I wonder if they’ve noticed it yet...
- I got my book, and walked back to the chair.
- I curled up in the chair in fright,
- but still stayed calm.
- just waiting for mother to hold me.
