- >It's been a long time since you landed in this backwater land of farmers and mysticism, and you hated every second.
- >You started in a shithole called Canterlot. And it was there you'd gotten a taste of their hospitality.
- >While the horse people loved to talk of peace, and love, and friendship, it was mostly lies and wishful thinking.
- >Perhaps you were allowed to wander certain parts of the stupidly opulant palace, but it gave you no sense of freedom.
- >The servants avoided you like the plague, the guards watched you like a hawk, and almost every day, you got to play a game of 200 questions.
- >It was not until a fateful visit that you leaned why.
- >It started when a purple unicorn, whos name you can't recall, had taken a visit to speak to you. She was close to Celestia if you recalled correctly.
- >As usual, you feigned ignorance and gave as little information as possible when that wasn't possible.
- >The same could not be said for her. For a smart person, she was a very stupid person.
- >Chief among her numerous ramblings however, was that they KNEW what you were, and they wanted whatever knowledge you might have.
- >She also let slip that they were attempting to gain an advantage over other species attempting to invade their borders.
- >With this information in hand, you took to the library.
- >You found your answers a large book tucked out of the way, but thankfully not in a guarded section.
- >A giant directory and brief history of the intelligent species of this place.
- >The book, while helpful, was also extremely racist. More so than you'd believed when you read it.
- >It's amazing what a few droppings of phrases like "Violent", "Savage", and "Dull witted" can do.
- >But it still proved useful. You began searching out relevant books and plunging yourself into the histories and cultures of the creatures of this world.
- >Soon, you had everything you needed. You knew that, while you may be the only homo sapien in this world, you weren't the only human. You weren't alone.
- >Knowing there were places you could go, you began planning your escape.
- >Watching the guards, stealing a few knives from the kitchen, stashing some cloth, snatching a few extra pillows.
- >You even fed them a little bit of information. Information of no value at all. Lies and quakery like holistic medicine and other pseudoscience that SOUNDS reasonable to idiots.
- >It was enough at least, to get them to watch you a little less closely, and to move you to a better room with less security.
- >Fools, they believed you were on their side. But their little secret dispenser was about to escape.
- >Slipping on your home made stealth outfit and hiding a few knives just in case, you were ready to make a break for it.
- >At 12 AM exactly, a shift change allowed you to slip out undetected, a dummy of extra pillows serving as your stand in till morning.
- >Sneaking and hiding your way through the castle, you make your way to a the first floor with relative ease.
- >Slipping from a window and post the courtyard guards, you finally found yourself in the town you'd seen from afar so often.
- >You knew little of the guard movement here, you simply had to hope for the best. And do what needed to be done if things went badly.
- >Carefully making your way down the mountain, you had a few close calls, most notably when a group of guards walked out right in front of you.
- >You had ducked into the shadows and hoped for the best.
- >As the surprised ponies stared right at you, you could taste your heart in your throat as you readied your blade.
- >They simply turned and walked off.
- >The burst of relief caused you to get careless however, and you walked right into a guard taking a break past a turn in the alley.
- >She quickly realized who you were and tried to jump on you without a word.
- >Whipping her around, you put her in a choke hold and tighten.
- >She struggled and kicked, but soon gave up and passed out. Or died, it was the first time you ever choked someone out, poor girl.
- >After hiding her, you continued on, eventually manage to make your way to the city limits.
- >The edge was guarded, and a distraction was needed.
- >Checking yourself over, you find a match and little else. It had to make due.
- >A wagon of hay near the gate provided an excellent oppurtunity.
- >Sneaking behind it, you carefully started the fire so that it would smoke a while before bursting into flame, then snuck as far away as you could.
- >Moments after you got back into position, the fire roared up, consuming the wagon in seconds.
- >The guards quickly left their posts in an attempt to prevent it from spreading.
- >Slipping past the gate, you felt happy...no, elated for the first time in a long time. You were free. FINALLY FREE!
- >After getting a good ways away from the city, you pulled out some paper, with directions.
- >Now you just had to reach the Minos Isles.
- ~
- >Everywhere you went, it was the same thing.
- >When two races met, it was more often than not a submission or a fight.
- >Diamond dogs kept slaves, gryphons and ponies hated each other, changelings saw others as prey, and dragons occasionally raided towns to increase their hordes.
- >Even among their own, the ponies had a bit of a hierarchy by race, Zebra were outsiders to be feared, and mules were straight up second class citizens.
- >Crossing borders was always risky. If there wasn't a territory dispute going on, there were surely patrols.
- >As expected, Minos wasn't much better.
- >They thought little of other types of bovine, and other races called them monsters and beasts.
- >Still, you got were celebrated and praised, as the books promised, and that's what you needed.
- >You were made advisor almost as soon as you got off the boat, and were frequently sought out.
- >Be it inventors wanting ideas, troops wanting tactics, or cows just wanting to bear your children, there was always a line to speak with you.
- >But the conflict was your biggest concern. You had a home, and you wanted it to stay safe. So you got involved.
- >Turns out, you had a bit of a knack for tactics. Victories came more and more frequently.
- >You were moved to seargent, to colonel, to general, almost over night, despite having very little combat experience.
- >Despite that, it was enough for one truth to become very clear. King Cyril cared NOTHING for his people, soldiers especially.
- >The two of you were constantly at odds, and it eventually reached a boiling point, which brought you to the present.
- ~
- >"Are you sure this will work sir?"
- "As sure as I can be. You guys just handle the loyalists, and I'll take care of the rest. Cyril dies tonight."
- >A cheer echos through your guard, but you silence it quickly.
- "It's time, let's go."
- >Cows a bulls surround you in formation and start toward the royal chamber.
- >It doesn't seem anymore unusual than any other day, though it feels like all eyes are on you.
- >But despite your paranoia, you manage to make it to the throne room without incident.
- >Your guard takes position near Cyril's and wait.
- >"Ah, Anonymous, what brings you here at this hour? Have you come to mock me again? To question my leadership?
- "Hello Cyril. But no, I've come here to relieve you of your rule."
- >With a snap of your fingers, your soldiers have used the element of surprise to slay Cyril's almost down to the last.
- >They quickly move to bar all entrances while you finish your business.
- >"I knew it would come to this you wretch. You've been nothing but trouble.
- "I'm only doing what needs to be done."
- >"And who are you to decide that? What gives you the right to destroy all that I have built?"
- "You've built nothing. Your people hunger in the streets so that you may live in splendor, your soldiers die in pointless battles so that you can boast of your strength."
- >"Who are you to judge, he who's never ruled? They fight for the honor of Minos. The-"
- "ENOUGH!"
- >You unholster a flintlock pistol you manages to throw together in your free time, and aim it right at his head.
- "Enough people have died for your twisted concept of honor."
- >A shot rings out, surprising all your own as the king falls dead.
- >Stepping over the body, you take the throne and call over the highest ranked soldier.
- >"Yes sir?"
- "Make sure everyone knows there's been a change in leadership."
- >"And after that?"
- "It's time to start recruiting allies."
