[17:01] <naze_youka> i'm letting it simmer, while i'm cooking bacon
[17:02] <naze_youka> going to add in bacon and some noodles once thats done
[17:02] <naze_youka> also crushed red pepper on spices, but i'll do that to taste
[17:02] <naze_youka> i've never made soup before, so this is all experiemental
[17:03] <naze_youka> i decided if it doesnt work out, i'll go out to eat instead
[17:03] <naze_youka> but i figure its hard to go wrong when i start from what is essentially a premade base
[17:03] <+Jim> soup is a good thing
[17:03] <naze_youka> ramen seasoning packets are like a soup in a pouch anyways, so i figured with the broth and add ins, it should work out
[17:04] <naze_youka> if the broth tastes good, i'm going to try making egg drop
[17:05] <naze_youka> i have no idea what i'm doing, but on the up side, it does smell like soup at least
[17:06] <naze_youka> i assume i'm on the right track
[17:07] <Shoe> bacon's not really good to put in soup cooked
[17:07] <Shoe> if you're going to add bacon, put it in raw.
[17:07] <Shoe> the flavor will get into the soup by cooking, not by being already cooked.
[17:07] <naze_youka> what about adding in the bacon grease
[17:08] <naze_youka> that has a lot of flavor
[17:08] <Shoe> bad idea
[17:08] <Shoe> that'll just make your broth all greasy.
[17:08] <naze_youka> but if i was going to cook the bacon in the broth anyways, wouldnt it be the same thing?

[17:18] <naze_youka> woo! the soup broth tastes good! evidently i'm on the right track or something.

[17:20] <+Jim> ...also today I learned that Canada and Russia have fairly close annual GDPs
[17:23] <naze_youka> also, in the wake of the boston thing, the boston sports blog nation blog held an "open skate" blog last night for all the teams playing to come together and be together for a night
[17:23] <naze_youka> met some nice people from teams i normally hate, and also got this recipe
