- [13:54:41] <meskarune> /mode +q $~a
- [13:54:46] <meskarune> that will quiet unregistered
- [13:54:49] <meskarune> then
- [13:55:17] <meskarune> /msg chanserv access #libreladies add *!*@gateway/* +V
- [13:55:32] <meskarune> that gives voice to people using irc clients like web clients or whatever
- [13:55:38] <meskarune> so they can speak even if they are unregistered
- [13:55:48] <meskarune> jwf ^ sorry forgot to ping you
- [13:56:19] <meskarune> and registered people will be able to speak like normal
- [13:56:52] <meskarune> and if someone joins the irc channel who isn't registered and is using a regular irc client like hexchat, they would need to either register their nick or ask for voice from an OP
- [13:57:04] <buovjaga> meskarune: why not +r? #libreoffice-dev uses it as it is more explicit
- [13:57:04] <meskarune> or you can use a bot to autovoice people who join the channel after 1 min.
- [13:57:19] <meskarune> buovjaga: well, if you don't want to do +r then the above is a working solution
- [13:57:28] <meskarune> so unregistered users can speak
- [13:57:36] <buovjaga> ok
- [13:57:56] <meskarune> I am using this solution in other channels that target newbies
- [13:58:01] <meskarune> and it is effective
- [13:58:10] <meskarune> most newbies use web clients to connect to irc at first
- [13:58:43] <meskarune> but anyways, the spam bot will join adn be unable to post anything, and then leave.
- [13:58:59] <meskarune> while people using matrix, irccloud, freenode web client, etc can talk just fine
- [13:59:27] <meskarune> and you can still ban people using gateway clients
- [13:59:43] <meskarune> since you can ban people with +V and not affect the access list
- [14:00:29] <meskarune> this solution is a better solution than banning unregistered and then making exceptions for gateways, which is something other channels have been doing.
- [22:19:46] <vmbrasseur> OK, here are the commands:
- [22:19:59] <vmbrasseur> /mode #channel -r
- [22:20:07] <vmbrasseur> (removes the +r if set before)
- [22:20:13] <vmbrasseur> /mode #channel +b $~a +e *!*@gateway/web/*
