  3. TEAM SEA:
  4. * aim to claim the final five slots in the WFL (outer motivation), and in the process, prove that they are a much bigger deal than most people see them as, that their talent and skill can match—maybe even surpass—some of the best fighters in the world (inner motivation)

  5. * train in a relatively small camp, run on a comparatively low budget, with a more flexible regiment and relaxed demeanor overall, but are highly-disciplined, focusing on finding weaknesses in opponents while ensuring they can improve their skill
  6. * is composed of three young fighters and two veterans, all of whom have never left Asia for sanctioned bouts
  7. * came together as part of Gabbie del Pilar’s retirement tour, to let her experience a massive home crowd to send her off

  11. TEAM CIS:
  12. * aim to claim the final five slots in the WFL (outer motivation), and in the process, prove their legitimacy—that they’re not fraudulent athletes or cheaters, and that they can rise above controversy to silence the doubters (inner motivation)

  13. * have state backing, advanced, richly-funded training facilities and top-notch coaches, but have a stringent, at times abusive environment—it’s a place where failure is not an option, and this camp reinforces the point in every way they can
  14. * is composed of five embattled MMA fighters, all of whom are involved in a wider doping fiasco
  15. * was formed as part of a national effort to bring all five fighters back in the world fighters’ rankings

  23. The whole stadium was just... silent. It was eerie. I looked at all the faces around me at the lower box, and there was nothing but despair. That was the heaviest, most oppresively gloomy atmosphere that I’ve seen anywhere.
  24. After Gabby got stopped, you can tell, with your own eyes, that the energy in the room evaporated. Some of the guys at the other side of the stadium were walking out; the rest went back to texting.
  25.
  26.
  27.
  28. Now don’t get me wrong, there was still a massive wall of Filipino sound when she came up on the stage, but it was noticeably softer than when Gabby was in the ring. They wanted to believe, they wanted to cheer her on and help her,
  29. but they must also think “oh, what if she goes down too? Should we be cautious? Give up?”, and I think it’s valid. No one knows how high Josie’s ceiling is, her limit. Even I thought she can’t do this.
  30. I was never more nervous than just before I got in. Nasa dugout ako kasama nung team... talagang lahat kami hindi na maganda yung pakiramdam nu’n. Wala eh. Tinatalo kami ng isang tao lang
  31. that...
  32. ...that you can do this. We’ll just take this one at a time, one at a time, stay nice and steady. I held her by the wrist tight and shook it like this. Her eyes were welling up so I shook her arm harder and I got her to look.
  33. He looked mean. Pero na-realize ko that he must be just wanting to amp me up.
  34. Akala ko talaga na hindi na makakarating yung mama ko dun sa venue.
  35. Minerva was riding on a high. And more importantly, she was regarding Josie as easy prey. She was shaking, pacing, talking to anyone she gets a glance on...she looked like a tense gazelle to Minerva.
  36. Here we go, final fight of the night! Final fight for both these warriors
  37. OPENING
  38. “Minerva misses the overhead, great ducking for Josie and she goes in—STRAIGHT IN—the combo backs Minerva to the wall.
  39.
  40.
  41.
  42. “And all those punches hit.
  43. “This is what Josie has to do. Move forward, attack, straight ahead, hard, quick strikes and leg kicks.
  44. And with that, she got
  45. “...has to be careful not to bite off more than she can chew here, Minerva is still a lot stronger.
  46. “Oh, she got her! Clean hit with the knee, now she makes it rain
  47. ==============================================================================================================
  48. OPENING
  49. “When Josie came up and stepped in to the ring, she was tense. She looked like she wanted to go back out. She was looking around, can’t seem...she can’t seem to look at Minerva.
  50.
  51. This is why Fahkumram scares Josie so much: he used to be everything that Josie is, and is what Josie will become if she delves any deeper into the underworld. Josie risks being corrupted by the same thing that keeps her going, and as she moves forward, Josie sees reminders of who she might become if she fails.
  52. We can see this in how they fight. Josie has next to no power in her strike, but has good technique and strikes often. Jung-Hye has impeccable fight mastery and knockout power but not the speed or rate of fire. Bruce hits hard and fast all the time but is brutish and unrefined. In comparison Fahkumram, their objective has everything in spades: skull-crushing power, unstoppable work rate and crisp, clean perfect fighting form.
  53. Overall goal: They have to free Fahkumram.
  54. JOSIE AGONCILLO
-is herself, on her own
-Desire: free the Muay Thai fighter and his family and provide asylum
-Need: overcome her fears and be strong enough to withstand pressure

-Desire: complete the mission Kazuya gave him
-Need:
  59. PARK JUNG-HYE
-surrogate/symbol for the Mishima Zaibatsu and the Tekken Force
-Desire: complete the mission the Zaibatsu gave him
-Need: prove that she can stand on her own even without her privileges
