  1. Primate Experiment 059 is a hybrid monkey with sentience, sapience, and high intelligence created and tested under torturous conditions in Thomas Edison's NYC lab and born on January 1st 1901. Eventually he was able to engineer a large scale release of the other animals in the lab and escaped to live in Central park with the other monkeys. Despite the pain and suffering he and the others endured in the lab, 59 believes that science can and should be used to help all forms of life. With this as his driving motivation he sets up a simple lab in the sewers under the park, employing some of the other monkeys as assistants, with which to start experimenting educating himself. They managed to get by for a time but eventually his temperament got his troupe caught when he flew in to a rage at a fellow monkey while animal control was searching the park for them once again. The noise of his tantrum drew the people to their hiding place and despite his best efforts 059 was the only one to escape. He doesn't know where the others are now but he feels a terrible guilt for getting them all captured again and fears the worst may have happened once they were.
  2. These events have filled him with a powerful drive to reduce suffering in the world for all, though their treatment of him and his kind so far has left him with a wariness towards humans. Left on his own and without help he sets out to find a new place in the world, his size and agility combined with his intelligence making it fairly easy to hide during the day while coming out to look for food and information at night. Eventually he heard of a scientist called Tesla who they said was working towards the betterment of man. What's more, he heard that this person was the rival of the one who had treated him and his fellows so cruelly. Cautiously optimistic, the young primate heads to the reported location of the scientist's lab to watch and see if this man would be suitable as a mentor.
