Journal 3 Entry 1

Well it seems my time as the “dark” queen of Duloc has come to an end. It’s kind of ironic though many countries and people were suspicious of me for how I came to power… I’ll miss my kingdom and my people. I can’t say I was a great queen but I tried my best to be a fair and just ruler.

So there is a bitter irony to this new world. I actually had a family member who was decent. My father, he was a good and kind man who I miss dearly. Honestly my mother was great too but she has already passed away. For once I have a decent parent and I separated from them lost in another fairytale world. It took me 3 lives to get a decent parent and I can’t even meet them because I am stuck in this place.

This world seems to be overrun by darkness. It’s sad because it’s really quite beautiful.

Oh another change seems to be my name isn’t Kathrine right now it’s Aurora also my hair is red for some reason. I actually kind of like it, better than the usual brown. On the down side I am a kid again, even younger than when I ran away in my first life.

So I made my way through this forest and there I met a small creature made of light named Igniculus.
Iggy, he doesn’t like when I call him that; well he doesn’t know much, he can be a bit snarky but he is nice. I am actually glad to have someone with me. I am not scared I have been through worse but it’s nice to have company at least.

I did some RPG tropes like solving puzzles, pulling a sword out of a stone and doing a boss fight to release the lady of the forest, a spirit of some type to get some information on what’s going on.

Apparently some dark queen named Umbra has taken hold of this place and swarmed the land with monsters and her children have stolen the sun, the moon and the stars.

Well I know my fairytales and there this world isn’t big enough for two dark queens so Umbra is just going to have to go. Also as fate would have it she has a mirror that is behind her stolen throne that will take me back to Austria and my Father. Today is a real bad day to be Umbra.

Anyways the Lady of the Forest gave me wings, I can now fly around like a fairy also I have magic light powers. She in fact called me a child of light… I kind of chuckled at that. After being called the dark queen so much it was amusing. She also gave me a flute but said after meeting me she wasn’t sure I would need it. That seemed to confuse her but I assured her it was ok. So I set off to free a fairytale kingdom of a dark queen.


Journal 3 Entry 2


So I was flying around the area, because honestly who wouldn’t if they just got wings? Anyways I found these patches of land above us supported by balloons. I thought it was weird so I decided to check it out. I found little homes on these lands and I also found a sad clown. Well a Jester. Her name is Rubella and she was upset because her brother broke up the act. Anyways she asked if she could come with me. I was a little reluctant but she assured me she was a trained acrobat. Also unlike everyone else here she doesn’t rhyme, purposefully it drives Iggy nuts. She will act like she is going to Rhyme and then it will be one word off. It’s amusing.

Anyways we set off to the tree of thorns like we were told by the lady of the forest and found some giant old guy blocking our path. I could have just flown past him but he threatened to eat me… I mean WTF even in Gotham people didn’t threaten stuff like that. Well a whack from the flat of my blade and on the ground he laid. I don’t think Hannibal there is going to be eating anyone for a while. Concussions have a way of killing one’s appetite.

Unfortunately I am not sure this was just a normal guard. Umbra may be very aware I am here. I don’t think I am going to get the element of surprise here. Sadly I am realizing I need more information. Rubella while she has been helpful about this area doesn’t know much beyond it. So we need to find directions to Umbra’s Castle, more information about her powers, abilities, weaknesses and any allies she has. It’s funny more and more when I am thrown in to a crisis the more I find myself acting like Bruce. If I ever see him again I have to thank him for that. It’s a shame the Lady of the Forest disappeared so abruptly I bet she knew a thing or two.


Journal 3 Entry 6

It’s funny how a day can turn out so differently than you expected, changed by one little fact. I suppose I should start at the beginning though. Today I went and found a village; it seemed to be filled with birds and nothing else. It took me a half hour to find someone who didn’t have feathers.

When I met Finn the Capilli he was crying. Apparently Capilli are some sort of dwarf like race; anyways Finn was upset because his entire village had been cursed to be birds by Umbra the queen of darkness.

I was not too pleased to hear this either because fuck, If she is powerful enough to transmute an entire town. She is going to be a real problem.

Anyways Finn, wasn’t the bravest soul. He knew the way to break the spell lay down in this well but he was afraid. I told him not worry I would be there to protect him and help him break the spell.

Well he may not have mentioned the well led to a massive cavern under the village that was filled with monsters and traps. It was alright though we even killed a 3 headed elemental hydra thing… It was actually a pretty epic fight. To his credit though he was terrified Finn didn’t run.

So we broke the spell… well apparently there was a pool there that would show your heart’s desire. I was looking for information. I got information alright, It turns out my father is sick. I finally have family member I give a damn about but can I be anywhere near them or help them, of course not. I think if I were really a little girl, I would be crying my eyes out right now worried about him. I am worried about him but I am also pissed because I feel like fate is dicking me around. I can’t give up hope. I’ll beat the queen, use the mirror and make it to him in time to save him. It just means I have to hurry.


Journal 3 Entry 8

This land is strangely connected with the one that Aurora is from, or this version of me. We found my Stepsister Norah today in the plains of Rambert. The part of me that was Aurora was overwhelmingly happy to see her I may have hugged her and shed a few tears. It’s been a long journey and I am still only a child.

Still I could almost hear Bruce telling me to get as much information from her as I can. I actually upset her with all my questions but here is what I found out. She was dragged here by some attackers through a mirror. She came from a castle in the sky which I can see… sadly I can’t fly up high enough to get there yet. She apparently met the Lady of the Forest who gave her four magical rings.

She seemed rather concerned with me saying that I was different from before. I just told her being lost and alone in a place like this can change you. She seemed to accept that.

Still something bothers me I can’t put my fingers on it but something in my gut is telling me somethings not right. Oh well I am just glad to have her here. She said she was sent to protect me but I have been doing all the protecting which is fine. If my swordsmanship had grown rusty during my time as queen it’s long gone now as many dark creatures can attest to…

One more thing I found out, My father isn’t doing well, that vision from the pool wasn’t a lie. I have calmed down a bit but admit I am still frustrated. Our little group is growing though and my new friends are quite formidable. If what I suspect is true I’ll need all the help I can get to defeat Umbra. It’s frustrating though that castle just hangs there up in the air, like I could reach out and grab it.


Journal 3 Entry 11

First of all let me say fuck spiders, especially giant spiders bigger than a house. Ones that somehow move incredibly fast and get faster as you fight them. Fuck them right to hell.  That was a horrible fight, worse than the dragon. They shouldn’t even be able to exist physics says they couldn’t stand up. Then again it’s not like this place operates on physics.

Well a lot has happened since I last wrote we found a race of mouse people called Populi, they are merchants that live on a city on a giant’s back. Apparently the dark queen had put seal upon their vaults because she is a bitch. You know she just seems extremely petty. People feared me because I conquered my little kingdom in a single day without any real effort but I did my best for my people. I am beginning to hate people who just want power like this so they can be pricks to everyone. Conquest is fine but have a legitimate reason, a goal, don’t just do it for powers sake and then crap on everyone. I think the queen wanted power so badly and when she got in power she had no idea what to do with it so now she is torturing her subjects.

Anyways enough ranting we have found a way up to the castle in the sky. Robert a mouse I met here has helped me to go inside the giant, which was made of stone by the way; and kill the spiders that had were webbing up the things heart so it couldn’t move.

Robert by the way is doing so to impress a girl, not the worst motivation I have heard. I think it’s kind of sweet actually. Sadly it didn’t work, Poor guy. However we successfully freed the giant and the Populi’s vault that was also inside the giant. It was quite an adventure. I must note my Sister does not like mice. She has been quite hostile to Robert. I guess she is going to be unhappy the little guy decided to tag along hoping that with the glory we won he would win the heart of the girl he is trying to woo.

We are gathering quite the group. Finn still cowers and complains but he hasn’t run from a battle yet. He is braver than he knows. Rubella has been helping to keep our spirits high with circus skills, We have needed that and My sister well it’s just good to have her around. Iggy is like my little buddy, his innocent perspective on things makes me smile and I have to laugh whenever Rubella breaks the rhyming scheme and he has to correct her. I am not sure though we are ready yet to face Umbra, Her servants the spider was quite nasty and I am sure she will be harder than that.



Journal 3 Entry 12


It’s been a while since I last wrote, yet it’s only been a few days. So much has happen I don’t even know where to begin.

I guess the beginning is as good a place as any. We made it to the path to the castle. We fought a few monsters and found Rubella’s brother Tristis. He apparently had been dumped by the circus because he wasn’t funny and was going to end it all. Rubella convinced him with my help to come along instead.

We traveled around a bit more made it to the castle and to the mirror… Well Norah said it was time to go. Just forget everything and leave.

Everyone was upset because they thought I was abandoning them.

Ok I’ll admit I was never one of the smart ones among the bat family. I was the dumb brute, the muscle.

I put things together in a way that I thought made sense. If this mirror led to our world and Norah was attacked in our world that must mean Umbra or her forces must be in our world too. So I told EVERYONE we were going. I felt that both our worlds may be in peril.

Norah flipped out and asked if I was insane but I wouldn’t hear of it. I told her to be ready for anything on the other side of that mirror. Everyone else was surprised but seemed ready to follow me in to hell. Bless them.

The other side turned out to be a trap… I wasn’t ready for who was waiting.

My step mother and other sister were waiting… I truly cared for them but they were my enemy.

It turns out that My stepmother was none other than umbra and my stepsisters were here evil accomplices.

Umbra flipped out that I wasn’t alone and yelled at Norah. It turns out by the way Stepsister Norah’s real name is Nox by the way.

Before things degraded I asked her what was going on. Umbra was only too happy to explain how my mother had been the Queen of Lemuria. She had banished Umbra’s mother to my world and cursed her to live in darkness if she ever came back. She was also only too happy to tell me she had killed my mother and was going to kill me.

She tried to strike us down but didn’t expect me chucking my sword at her chest first. It only managed to wing her but the battle was on. I had one advantage over the three powerful casters that we were facing. I have fought for my life and have experience in situations like this. Nox was distracted crying out for her mother’s safety so I Immediately steamrolled her knocking her out and breaking a few bones while I was at it. I may have been a little upset. That snapped my other companions in to action as Umbra shouted “Get them, Kill them.” In fury as she began to transform. Great these weren’t even their final forms. My other sister transformed in to a dragon too. So it was two dragons this time.

One good thing is that unbeknownst to us the one guard they had before us turned and started attacking the two. It’s hard to find good help when you’re evil.

This was a hell of a fight. I was scared for everyone on my side as they weren’t as skilled as I was, thankfully both my other step sister and Umbra were mainly focused on me in their rage. Umbra so much that I actually got her to accidently nail her daughter a few times as they weren’t used to fighting together.

It took every potion we had, a hell of a lot of luck and more strategizing than I thought I was capable of but at the end of it Umbra and her daughter lay dead. This was the first time I have killed someone. It doesn’t feel good honestly. We… we were barely alive, some people had fallen unconscious multiple times in that battle but we made it.

Strangely after I defeated my former stepsisters… I sort of aged instantly to where I am now I young adult. It must have been reclaiming the sun and the moon.

We took Nox prisoner. She snapped at me, asking if I was going to banish her like my mother had their grandmother. I informed her that I was not going to do that. She will be sent to the dungeon where she will wait until her trial and when she is found guilty she will be executed. That shut her up. My companions were shocked at how cold I was but I am a dark queen. I may not be the best queen but I try to be fair and meet out justice when it’s needed. It was certainly needed here.

Anyways It would be nice if that were the only emergency that we had to deal with. We found the mirror to my world and I was reunited with my father, in time to find out the dam broke and everything was going to be under water.

Without many options We gathered who we could and lead them through the mirror. So my kingdom got a lot more populated. I say my kingdom because well I am now the queen of Lemuria.

It’s kind of sad really. If Umbra had been less of a bitch and wasn’t out to murder me I would have lived blissfully ignorant and happy for the rest of my life with my father in my own world.

It was only because murdering my mother hadn’t been enough to sate her thirst for vengeance that lead me here and lead directly to her death. It was all for some desire for petty vengeance. I guess there is a lesson in that.
