  1. SCP-4434
  2.
  3. Object Class: Safe
  4.
  5. Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4434-A is to be kept in the office of Doctor [REDACTED] at all times. Personnel must obtain permission from Doctor [REDACTED] personally in order to perform testing on SCP-4434-A. SCP-4434-B willingly contains itself in Test Chamber [EXPUNGED], and is to be given the opportunity to walk around the facility, supervised, at least thrice a week. In the event that an Object of Euclid or Keter class breaches containment while SCP-4434-B is roaming, the entity is to immediately be taken into the nearest Test Chamber and kept there until the breach is contained.
  6.
  7. Description: SCP-4434-A is a large [REDACTED] brand flashlight comprised of a pink plastic, containing a bulb of unknown composition. The light has the name "LUCY" written in permanent marker on it crudely, with the opposing side having "GLOWY" written in the same handwriting; no amount of polishing has been able to remove either inscription. The O in "GLOWY" appears to be in the shape of a heart. The flashlight bears a numeric keypad reminiscent of an outdated mobile phone rather than a power button, and accepts 1 to 3 digit codes. The flashlight appears to be indestructible, and the bulb incapable of burning out. However, the batteries die after roughly 6 hours of continuous use. SCP-4434-A takes 8 standard AA batteries. When a code is entered, SCP-4434-A emits light, the properties of which vary depending on the input code. The input codes are always consistent in what light they emit. A list of known input codes is available upon request. Attempting to test a new input code requires at least two personnel members present to supervise.
  8.
  9. SCP-4434-B is a bipedal entity standing at roughly 9' 0"; entity is covered in short, abrasive white fur. Entity's head shape is reminiscent of common felines, but enlarged by a considerable amount; ears and whiskers resembling those of a common housecat have been reported. Elongated fangs and claws are present, but entity has not been reported to utilize them aggressively. Entity is inhuman, but speaks fluent English and some extremely basic phrases in Spanish; subject speaks with a very pronounced lisp. Entity answers to "Lucy," but has expressed indifference to being referred to with proper Foundation terminology. Entity is intelligent, amicable, and curious, and highly enjoys interacting with personnel. SCP-4434-B has been known to sleep for 18 continuous hours, and typically refuses to engage for thirty minutes after awakening.
  10.
  11. "Lucy" has expressed immense affection for SCP-4434-A, nicknamed "Glowy", and is intrinsically aware of its precise location and remaining battery life at any given moment.
  12.
  13. When not exposed to any artificial light, entity appears in "base form," described above. However, under any sort of man-made light, "Lucy" changes form rapidly. The form taken on by the entity depends on the properties of the light it was exposed to. Entity returns to base form immediately after exposure ends unless the light was emitted by SCP-4434-A. Light emitted by the object will "lock" the entity into the associated form for either 12 hours or until entity is exposed to input code 000's light. "Lucy" has expressed immense enjoyment of the transformation process, and regularly requests exposure to certain lights. Requests are to be granted unless a containment breach is underway.
  14.
  15. Despite demonstrating intelligence on par with a human being aged 20-30, "Lucy" harbors some behaviors that are somewhat childish. Subject has a severe phobia of the dark, and becomes unresponsive to personnel when placed in an insufficiently lit room. Subject will always request access to "Glowy" when exposed to darkness, and exhibits considerable distress until the request is granted or the room is lit by other means. "Lucy" invariably refers to any personnel that expose her to darkness as "meanieth."
  16.
  17. Subject has an intense affinity for sweets, especially peppermints, and will request them repeatedly if any are present. Requests may be freely granted by any personnel on hand, no approval necessary.
  18.
  19. Subject does not comprehend the concept of "Glowy" operating on batteries, and consistently refers to the device's battery life as though it were the energy of a living being, E.G. "Glowy ith getting tired". "Lucy" exhibits anxious behavior when the flashlight begins to run out of battery life, and will plead with personnel to "let him retht." SCP-4433-A is to be placed on the small makeshift "bed" on Dr. [REDACTED]'s desk when its batteries are being recharged. SCP-4434-B may be permitted to "visit" the flashlight while it "rests".
  20.
  21. On January 23, "Lucy" enters a 24-hour state of high excitement, speaking about her "birthday" for the entirety of the day. Personnel are permitted to gift SCP-4434-B items, but all gifts will be screened by security personnel before they are released to the specimen. "Lucy" exhibits little to no interest in conversing about topics other than her birthday during these events.
  22.
  23. Subject also expresses great interest in toys and video games. If the need arises, "Lucy" may be distracted for hours at a time by providing one or more toys or permitting access to the video game console designated for this purpose. Subject is not permitted access to any anomalous objects, no matter how many times she requests access.
  24.
  25. Test Logs:
  26.
  27. Input Code #000 - "Reset Button"
  28.
  29. Emission: Flashlight beam is extremely weak, incapable of illuminating more than a foot ahead of the user in total darkness. Light appears to be anomaly-free. D-Class personnel exposed to this beam have expressed total neutrality, and reacted the same way to being exposed to a standard flashlight with a beam of equal weakness.
  30.
  31. "Lucy" Effect: SCP-4434-B will revert to its "base form." Entity has expressed enjoyment of feeling as though it is in the "correct" body when exposed to this beam. This is the second-most requested beam by "Lucy". Entity may be exposed to this beam without approval by personnel.
  32.
  33.
  34. Input Code #042 - "Booklight"
  35.
  36. Emission: flashlight bulb appears to change form into something resembling an "Edison bulb," with the beam changing accordingly into a dim, yellow-orange light. Beam is relatively strong, penetrating 4 feet of pure darkness. Human subjects exposed to this light universally comment on its "vintage appeal" in either favorable or negative terms. No apparent causation of either opinion has been found.
  37.
  38. "Lucy" Effect: Entity increases in size and muscle mass dramatically, reaching nearly 12 feet in height. Additionally, a small pair of bifocal glasses are generated on the entity's face. Despite the alarming increase in bulk, entity consistently enters a noticeably calmer state than normal. Subject always requests reading material when entering this form, and will retire to its designated Test Chamber to read for the remainder of the current day. "Lucy" has expressed great interest in discussing literary subjects with personnel when in this form, and has suggested starting a "book club" multiple times. Subject often expresses some disappointment at reverting to its base form after the duration of Form 042 expires. Exposure to this beam is SCP-4434-B's most common request by far.
  39.
  40.
  41. Input Code #123 - "Happy Birthday to Me"
  42.
  43. Beam: Device emits a white beam with multicolored "specks" within it, resembling confetti. Beam is very bright, penetrating 150 feet into total darkness, and very wide. D-Class exposed to the beam reported feeling a rush of happiness that only faded 24 hours later.
  44.
  45. "Lucy" Effect: Subject appears mostly unchanged barring the appearance of a conical party hat atop the head. This hat is unremovable by any means, and indestructible. Subject becomes psychosomatically convinced that the current date is January 23rd, regardless of what date it is.
