  1. That day they concentrated on a ward powered by white mana, which would protect one from the effects of spells based in blue, and a circle of protection that protected the user from being harmed by blue magic. Jodah asked what the difference was.

  3. Wode held up a hand and ticked off the reasons with his fingers. “A ward moves with you, the circle don’t. Circle you gotta keep pumping mana into, but protects more. Ward keeps you from being even hit by blue spells—slide right off you. And you can toss wards on others.”

  5. Wode led him through the motions, and Jodah nodded and followed. Lunch was sent up, then dinner. Barl came to fetch him in the evening, and escorted him to his quarters.
