  1. Differences in Freedom
  2. “Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does" ( Sartre, Pg. 233). Obviously, Jean-Paul Sartre had some radical ideas about freedom. Jean-Paul Sartre believed that human beings live in anguish not because life is unpleasant but because we are “condemned to be free”. Mlk on the other hand, felt that freedom was a thing to be demanded from the oppressor and could be taken or given at any time. I stand with Jean- Paul Sartre’s idea on radical freedom because it forces people to be responsible for their own actions and to take actions to become who they want to be. However, I do acknowledge that what Sartre and Mlk share in common is a willingness for direct action in the face of injustice. It is up to the individual to decide on how they should exercise their own freedom in order to truly discover their place in this world.
