  4. "Weakness is a crime," Kylazasta reminded him, "Fuck the barter, slit his throat, take it!"
  5. The young girl glared at the blacksmith who was taking a little too long in 'picking out the best sword' on the rack, making sure he was out of earshot. Curly red hair and eyes the colour of swirling magma made her stand out and even gave her a slight intimidating streak, but at the end of it, a freckled little girl with a slight tan appeared about as menacing as a potted plant.
  6. "It'll be fine Kyla," said Davin, her blonde and overly happy-go-lucky wild mage companion, "and besides, I'll only slit his throat if he tries to screw us over."
  7. "Weakness is a crime."
  8. Davin rolled his eyes, he was getting sick of that phrase. Two years he'd been hearing it, and he grew tired of barely grasping what she actually meant by that.
  9. The blacksmith returned with a fairly well made sword, but far from the quality he claimed it to be, "Here it is, that'll be seventy gold pieces."
  10. Davin looked to Kyla, waiting for her appraisal. There an almost instant reaction, her exasperated sigh told him what he needed to know.
  11. "It's worth twelve, maybe thirteen because there is some workmanship behind this, but seventy is a fucking insult."
  12. The blacksmith glared at Davin, seemingly sizing up the spindly young man, weighing how they'd fare in a punch-up against one another.
  13. "Your daughter's got some nerve and a disgusting tongue, I've half a mind to beat an apology out of you for your shitty parenting."
  14. "And you're trying to empty my wallet on a piece of shit. Sorry, but I'd rather keep my coin," at that Davin took Kyla's hand and lead her for the front door.
  15. "Don't you ever darken my doorstep again!"
  16. Davin gave him the finger without even looking back.
  17. Outside the blacksmith's shop, Kyla turned to him, "You would abide just an affront? Why didn't you paint the walls in his entrails?"
  18. "Because I don't particularly want to kill the reeves who'll run me down."
  19. "Weakness is a crime!"
  20. "Of which he is guilty, but he's beneath my concern," the real reason was that Davin didn't revel in bloodshed, but an arrogant streak was language Kyla understood, "Right now I have to get you fed."
  21. "I'm not a dependant," Kyla glared at him
  22. "Pardon me for putting you above my own needs," Davin scoffed.
  23. "How's the hoard?"
  24. "Painful, spell's wearing thin. Should hit the inn soon. Frugal or lavish?"
  25. "Depends on their asking price. No more than twenty-three gold pieces on a room, we're in a decently sized town, there'll be good amenities, but it's not like we're staying in an hotel either."
  26. "Sick of hay?"
  27. Kyla shrugged, "It's worth the price they ask for in the inns. No more, no less."
  28. After some time haggling in the inn and getting a better price than they expected, they entered the 'royal' suite. A gigantic, ready-made bed with feather pillows and silken sheets inhabited most of the floor space, while beautifully crafted wooden furniture took up the rest of the space. Kyla took off her shoes and let her feet sink into the plush carpet before springing forward and closing the heavy blood red curtains.
  29. "We got a decent deal on this room. The keeper is only just above breaking even on us, mustn't have had much in the way of patronage this season."
  30. Davin didn't care, he just sat on the bed and drew a knife. He raised his tunic and beckoned Kyla to give him a hand.
  31. Kyla was always quick to come for this, considering her entire life's work was here. Davin pressed a rag to his side and cut himself open, doing what he could to stop blood from spilling onto the floor. Kyla reached into the extra-planar pocket he opened a few inches from his kidney, sealing it with an orb of invulnerability to keep it from adversely affecting his body. She pulled out the flickering, failing, fist sized orb. A tiny swirling vortex tipped in stark white streaks and marred in shifting pitch black splotches was dissipating within it. As both spells collapsed, a bloodstained bag of holding dropped into her outstretched palm.
  32. "Thirty-eight million, seven hundred and ninety two thousand, three hundred and sixteen gold pieces worth," announced Kyla, "Funnily enough we made a square profit massacring that goblin camp, we're up a hundred and sixty three coins from last count."
  33. Davin held a hand to his wounded side, a flicker of blue light slowly sealing the wound back together.
  34. "Why do you hoard all this coin anyway?" asked Davin,
  35. "Rainy days, material gain, hedonism, these are the reasons people assume, but they aren't correct. Doesn't matter really, it's not the mountain of gold, it's the thrill of accruing, the obsessive record keeping, the pride in a well stocked treasury. Status you could say."
  36. "Why not do something productive with it? you've a sharp wit for economic theory, why not build a merchant empire?"
  37. "I take what I want..."
  38. "Why steal, why kill, when you could have them paying taxes? paying for merchandise and services only you provide?"
  39. Kyla flashed him a glance. He had been protecting this hoard through self-mutilation for the entire time they travelled together and not once did he spend a single coin from it, only taking enough to fill his own coin pouches and adding the excess to the hoard. Not once did he even dare raise the notion of spending any of it.
  40. And yet, his first mention of it not only made sense, but betted a temporary loss to a permanent gain. She sat down beside him, helping him tend to the open wound.
  41. "Go on?" asked Kyla, a tiny spark of respect forming for this lanky human.

  44.
  45. "Weakness is a crime," she reminded him as he gave a single gold coin to the church as they walked past. His motivations were pure, he was genuinely charitable, but he also spoke a language she could grasp, "Currying favour with clergy is always a good idea. So is building schools. Not all wealth is measured in coin."
  46. "Don't give me that fucking warm and fuzzy feeling spiel."
  47. "Actually, I'm talking about connections and good reputation. You'll be amazed at how people will rally behind a pillar of the community. A name in good standing can get a free meal if played right. Opportunity costs and all."
  48. Kyla smiled, "I could use some pheasant now that you mention meals. Never thought of brownie points as a currency before... maybe it's the subjective measure of its value that put me off."
  49. "Or the fact it requires being nice to people,"
  50. "Yeah, fuck people man."
  51. It had been a year since they had partnered in the Smoulder Hill Corporation. They dabbled in a little bit of everything, so long as it was legitimate. Wild Magic was unstable but the benefits were incredible, with some trial and error and the usage of reagents to stabilise the unpredictable currents, the result was a unique service delivery product, given two absolute locations, Davin and Kyla combined their magic and created a stable portal system to deal with the logistics of shipping and meant that items were instantly sent from one fixed point to another. Their price dependant on the distance travelled. Currying good favour was in their best interests as their business model by nature meant completely cutting conventional shipping out of the loop, even if their only patrons were the excessively wealthy looking to expand gigantic corporate empires.
  52. "I'm surprised no one actually thought of selling this concept for cold hard cash before," admitted Kyla.
  53. Davin smirked, making money was secondary for him as he was more than happy to do this for free. However selling the nobles a product at a high price and gradually decreasing his price to near nothing once the wealthy clients dry up was a pragmatic solution to most potential issues. Making the nobles co-opt it before the serfs meant that the nobles wouldn't cry foul, the novelty would long wear off and simply be a 'fact of life' for them.
  54. Kyla spent a lot of time tearing into his habits and ideals. Making the world a better place by overcharging one greedy bastard at a time seemed a ludicrous idea. But giving a small percentage to charity and using the rest to build jobs, schools, roads, hire mercenaries to clear monsters off the paths had made the human world a little safer, more comfortable. Bribing officials into actually talking diplomatic schisms over, offhandedly dismissing the question of 'why?' with 'I want more customers' was a risky feat, but at least three city-states had slowly wound down hostilities and begun dialogues that otherwise wouldn't have happened.
  55. Kyla mused aloud as they walked on cobblestone that only existed because of their expense, "It's nice not to be trekking through mud for a change."
  56. She reached out and held his hand. This... 'good' that Davin was championing in the world was comfortable, there were favours at their beck and call, 'friends' to count on in times of need. There was safety, there was an air of growing freedom.
  57. "Thanks," she murmured. It was the first nice thing she'd ever said to him since he destroyed her life.

  61. "Weakness is a crime," she reminded him as she dragged him up from the ground. He had taken a crossbow bolt in the cut that was meant for her head. Altruism wasn't a code of the strong.
  62. "And let the only person who has ever stuck by me die?" spat Davin, trying to pass it off as an inherently selfish act.
  63. She was dumbfounded, a person? she glared, they weren't peers in her mind.
  64. "Don't forget which of us is elder, which of us is better!"
  65. "And yet I just saved you a world of hurt."
  66. She sighed, "I suppose you're right," she leant up on her tiptoes and gave him wrapped her arms around his neck in a tight hug, "You have my gratitude. Nice job tearing them all to pieces by the way, your more risky tactics were rather impressive. Now rip that arrow out, I don't travel with wounded dogs."
  67.

  70. "Weakness is a crime," she reminded him as he reset her broken leg. She was so stoic that her tone didn't even waver when he forced the limb back into place.
  71. "And helping you walk again is 'weak'?"
  72. "I... it was self-referential," she admitted.
  73. "Well, taking on a pack of wyverns by yourself isn't exactly something most walk away from."
  74. "Well technically I didn't. And it wasn't a pack, it was an entire hillside nest. Besides, how was I supposed to know that the stupid fucks let an Ankheg live inside their fucking nest!?"
  75. "Good thing you dodged the spit, that would have hurt."
  76. As he finished binding the leg, he looked to her with a smile.
  77. Kyla leant forward and gave him a quick peck on the lips.
  78. "A thank you. How, you'd better have some quail left in that pack or I'll fucking eat you!"
  79. "Have you ever eaten a person?" Davin raised an eyebrow
  80. "... only in combat..." admitted Kyla.

  83.
  84. "Weakness is a crime," she reminded him as he surveyed shrieking dragon in the distance. The ancient red dragon had seen this seed of a powerful, rich world that they had been planting the past three years. She gripped Davin's hand tightly. She had never considered the backfired polymorph a burden, believing in her own abilities so greatly that it was a minor inconvenience at best.
  85. Until that moment that was.
  86. "I never asked for your help before..." she said, "but I may require it now. Can you change me back?"
  87. "This whole time we've been together," he said, "I've been working on the spell, but I've only gotten some of it right. As most I can only half change you and honestly, if I used it now I couldn't try again for the completed transfer."
  88. She looked back over the panicked townsfolk, the people whose lives their empire had elevated, the money, magic and technology pumped into raising the standard of living and fashioning a greater world.
  89. "I... I cannot let my accomplishments burn," she uttered, trying to pass off her motivation as being completely selfish, "Do it, I'll bear the weight of any consequences. I just need a little boost to show this fledging with whom he is fucking with!"
  90. Davin unfurled the scroll he always kept at his side and cast the spell. Immediately Kyla was wracked with pain, but she never once winced. A heavy set of bat-like wings ruptured from her back, painting the stonework in a bloody spray while a reptilian frill split off from her neck, leaving blood trickling down her tunic. Horns pressed their way through her skin, curling upwards, mock daemonic. Her teeth grew into savage needlepoints and her tongue split into a fork, filling her mouth with blood. Her throat restructured, something missing all this time grew in there. Her finger and toenails all popped off and scything claws grew in their place, her forearms, hands, calves and feet all twisted and contorted into thick scales while a tiny sail, held up with thin spines grew down her back. Her ears twisted into wing shaped frills as her legs and hips broke and reset repeatedly until they resembled something more akin to a cat's bodily structure, the ankle raised so high as to almost act as a second, backwards pointed knee and her hips allowed for both bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion. A tail grew, covered in yet more spines, frills and spikes.
  91. She stepped out of ruined shoes and bellowed, fingers of flame issuing from the new organ just above her larynx,
  92. "Identify yourself Wyrm! you tread on the lands of Kylazasta!"
  93. The red dragon in the distance laughed, mocking her.
  94. Enraged, Kyla took flight and sailed for the dragon, causing Davin to chase after her as well as he could on foot.
  95.

  97.
  98. When Davin reached them, Kyla was in front of the dragon. Both were battered bleeding and broken.
  99. The dragon lunged forward and tried to devour her. Kyla managed to reach out and hold his teeth apart enough that they didn't skewer her.
  100. Her face contorted into a wicked snarl, "You... Will... Kneel..."
  101. In a flurry, she tore out the teeth that were an immediate threat to her and dived down the dragon's throat.
  102. The dragon wailed and gnashed, letting loose massive jets of flame to try and clear her out, but to no avail. Then, the dragon stilled, gasped, and staggered to the ground, panting for breath that never came.
  103. The throat ruptured from within, an ugly spray of viscera colouring the verdant grassland. From the gap, emerged Kyla, bloody but smiling. Victorious.
  104. "Weakness is a crime," she reminded him.
  105. She approached him, a distinctive swagger in her step. She wiped the blood from her face and threw her arms around him, giving him a passionate kiss.
  106. "All will cow, before my reign," she said, "This domain we built, these humans we hoard... not a single transgression against that will be suffered. Not a single fiend will part us two. This is my gift for those under my wings who never knew how to be strong,"
  107. She smirked, "I'll strip them of their sins one day... but for now this corpse is rotting and I believe there's about three hundred and eighty two thousand gold pieces in his almost completely untarnished cadaver."
  108. "Always an eye on the cash value I guess," laughed Davin.
  109. "Always the victor, never the victim," she was stern, "And the victor takes the spoils. His flesh is mine, I keep what I kill," she then smiled, "now I just have to teach you how to kill a dragon on your own. Don't worry Davin, you'll be the first I strip of weakness."
  110. Davin blinked unsure of how to take this, but Kyla kissed him again
  111. "I will not love a wounded dog."
  112.

  114.
  115. They shared the same royal suite in the same inn that Davin first made the suggestion to build their empire in. Kyla led him in by the hand, far more gently than she had ever dealt with him in the past.
  116. "So... what are we doing here?" asked Davin.
  117. "A reward for everything," she smirked as she sat down on the foot of the bed. It had been three months since she killed the dragon and had realised exactly what she had accomplished in a tiny speck of time.
  118. Slowly she started fumbling with the ties on her tunic, gently pulling it apart with her claws. Soon she stood, letting the battered garment drop to the floor. The sunlight filtered through the curtains was still enough to illuminate her scales in a vibrant crimson. She was tiny, petite. The spell had locked her in the body of a little girl after all, but she was anything but. Davin approached, unsure what to make of it all. When they first met, she was an ancient red dragon who's hoard filled a mountain. Here however, she was a stoic demi-human wearing a gentle smile.
  119. Her body was barely developed in human terms, no breasts to speak of but her nipples were slightly puffed out, though her hips were disproportionately rounded by the forced polymorph back into a more draconic form.
  120. Her tail swished gently from side to side as she walked towards him. He might of been double her height, but she always had the larger presence. He felt like he was kneeling before greater being. His eyes scanned her, the swaying hips drawing his attention down to the smooth, hairless mound.
  121. She raised her arms, embracing him and pulling him down so that she could kiss him. A short time after their lips met, Davin felt her forked tongue explore his mouth and he responded by caressing her. Gentle, non-threatening yet firm, he dragged his fingertips up and down her sides, drawing patterns down her back and tenderly caressing her wing webbing.
  122. She gave a gentle cooing as she snuggled into him, resting her head against his chest, listening to his heartbeat. She wrapped her wings around him to tighten the embrace.
  123. "Can... I ask a favour?" she sounded nervous for the first time they had known each other.
  124. "What is it?"
  125. "Sultry pleasures and other libertine vices to pique my interest, but not today. Today I just want to be loved. Can... you do that for me?"
  126. "You want me to be gentle with you?"
  127. "I... I don't want you to fuck me..." she gulped, "I... want you to make love to me..."
  128. At that Davin swept down and picked her up, carrying her to the bed. Kyla was surprised but offered no resistance as he placed her gently down on the bed. Her face was already red with a luminescent blush as he slowly undid his own clothes.
  129. As he tossed aside the last garment, Kyla's eyes had already scanned him up and down, he wasn't overly muscular, with only the faintest trace of any real muscle in him. Rather, he was so skinny that people could have easily mistook him for malnourished.
  130. He caressed her more as he crawled atop of her, a faint gasp escaping her lips when he passed his hands over her nipples. They immediately started hardening under his touch.
  131. "If you were so accustomed to debauched pleasure, that would have not drawn quite the response from you. You're... a virgin aren't you?"
  132. "I've... never had the time... or the mate..."
  133. Davin smiled as he gave her a reassuring kiss, continuing to massage her bust, "Don't fret," he murmured, "I'll be gentle."
  134. After some time Kyla shakily reached for his wrist and clutched him tightly. Davin backed off and ran his fingers through her hair, "what's wrong?" he asked.
  135. Kyla nervously pulled his hand downward to her pussy and parted her legs a little. Davin smiled as he realised what she was trying to communicate and took to massaging her clit and vulva. Kyla let out a tiny moan as his fingers played little games with her. She found herself pressing her shoulders back, arching her back in response to his touch. He leant down and kissed her, tongue freely exploring, lips wide, passionate. His other hand wrapped around her, fingers interlocked.
  136. Soon, Kyla reached down and wrapped her fingers around Davin's shaft, stroking gently. Each stroke directed further and further downwards, until his member was at her gates.
  137. She pulled back from the kiss, smiling as she gazed into his eyes. She slowly urged him inwards, pressing the member into her lacuna. Slowly, she slid him inside.
  138. She motioned the pace she wanted her to go, slowly, but firmly. He complied, using his now freed hand to massage her bust once more. It was obvious to him that Kyla hadn't much experience as she made a cry with ever thrust, twitch and rub.
  139. She leant forward, pulling herself into him with her wings and wrapping both them and one arm around him, while supporting her weight with the other as she thrust, her new position opening her hips to allow him to sink deeper. She pressed an ear against his chest, somehow the sound of his heart pounding made it all better, put her at ease.
  140. "I never thought you weak..." she murmured as he ploughed into her, sinking his member into her, deeper with every thrust. She shuddered, "if anything... It was I who was weak..."
  141. Tears made their way into their eyes as her body started tensing involuntarily. She convulsed, arching back, closing her eyes in an attempt to stop them from rolling back, "I'm sorry... I'm sorry..." she whimpered as Davin thrust harder.
  142. She chewed her lip to stop herself from moaning, all that came from her was a weak little whimper. She let her lip slip however and the pent up scream issued out, an incoherent exaltation uttered in draconic tongue as her body relaxed, allowing Davin to pump into her unimpeded. Within moments a warmth filled her as Davin made a few final pushes, holding her so tightly he threatened to stifle her very breath.
  143. They laid for a time, panting and heaving before Kyla swallowed the lump in her throat.
  144. "Thank you for your kindness Davin... thank you for doing this for the weak creature I am..."
  145. "You're not weak..." he breathed, "You're-"
  146. "Nothing without you," Kyla interjected.
  147. She gulped again.
  148. "Weakness is a crime," she reminded him.
