  1. [3:50 PM] King Murdoc: e.g. the taargur were super chill friendly explorers, but they never settled anywhere due to being over-adapted to their homeworld
  2. [3:51 PM] King Murdoc: but then they slowly - and collectively - developed a grudge against the universe
  3. [3:51 PM] King Murdoc: because i kept meeting fucking spiritualists
  4. [3:51 PM] King Murdoc: or authoritarians
  5. [3:52 PM] King Murdoc: it helped(?) that they were Venerable i.e. lived super fuckin long
  6. [3:52 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> the point im aiming for is between getting battleships and being able to defeat leviathans
  7. [3:53 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> space mercs yo
  8. [3:54 PM] King Murdoc: i got battleships super early with them but couldn't beat leviathans until much later
  9. [3:54 PM] King Murdoc: since opop technology but no fleet cap
  10. [3:54 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> perfect '<.
  11. [3:54 PM] King Murdoc: i think that was also around when i started to get cybernetics
  12. [3:56 PM] King Murdoc: they also liked to uplift people and had lots of client species
  13. [3:56 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> so in this galaxy at that point
  14. [3:57 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> how would you fit a small band of players a la fef?
  15. [3:59 PM] King Murdoc: science missions
  16. [3:59 PM] King Murdoc: fighting space pirates
  17. [3:59 PM] King Murdoc: courier services 'cause space is dangerous
  18. [4:00 PM] King Murdoc: maybe there are border skirmishes and stuff
  19. [4:00 PM] King Murdoc: since there was a lot of border friction in that game
  20. [4:00 PM] King Murdoc: sekrit missions to steal FE tech
  21. [4:00 PM] Lucus: Journeys to THE SHROUD
  22. [4:02 PM] King Murdoc: you could also have like guarding new colonies
  23. [4:02 PM] King Murdoc: peacekeeping missions
  24. [4:06 PM] Shiina 'Misha' Mikado: yoy
  25. [4:09 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> what was the most notable thing to happen during that timeframe
  26. [4:10 PM] King Murdoc: uhhhh
  27. [4:10 PM] King Murdoc: i think the tumbator states fought with a spiritual FE
  28. [4:10 PM] King Murdoc: boshnakan corporation warred council of taarg to a draw
  29. [4:11 PM] King Murdoc: boshakeran
  30. [4:11 PM] King Murdoc: something like that
  31. [4:11 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> did the fe stomp the other one? :v
  32. [4:11 PM] King Murdoc: ye
  33. [4:11 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> lul
  34. [4:12 PM] King Murdoc: i think the isolationist fe warred the spiritual seekers at some point
  35. [4:12 PM] King Murdoc: but idr when
  36. [4:14 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> was there a war in heaven or was it just regular war
  37. [4:14 PM] King Murdoc: actually the council fought a lot of wars
  38. [4:14 PM] King Murdoc: no war in heaven
  39. [4:14 PM] King Murdoc: spiritualists warred the interventionists at one point
  40. [4:14 PM] King Murdoc: and got fucking rekt
  41. [4:14 PM] Shiina 'Misha' Mikado: rip
  42. [4:14 PM] King Murdoc: but it was just a normal war
  43. [4:15 PM] King Murdoc: you don't have to follow the world 100% tho
  44. [4:15 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> im thinking of a war in heaven of really epic proportions
  45. [4:16 PM] King Murdoc: unless you count super-taarg vs the interventionists
  46. [4:16 PM] King Murdoc: which was basically a war in heaven
  47. [4:16 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> well
  48. [4:16 PM] King Murdoc: That was later though
  49. [4:16 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> thats the thing
  50. [4:16 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> the taarg are the third party
  51. [4:17 PM] King Murdoc: there were four other notable civs iirc
  52. [4:17 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> so the space amigos will get to fight both aes on their behalf
  53. [4:18 PM] King Murdoc: tumbator something or other, I'd have to check their ethics but i don't think they changed much
  54. [4:18 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> would be interesting to have more variety
  55. [4:18 PM] King Murdoc: They're the one mammaliam portrait with six eyes and a big snout
  56. [4:19 PM] BOTPalantir: <Solymr> and rebelling planets and stuff like fanatic purifiers or some other midgame big enemy
  57. [4:19 PM] King Murdoc: i think they're hegemonic imperialists
  58. [4:22 PM] King Murdoc: one thing about the game
  59. [4:22 PM] King Murdoc: is that while there weren't really that many major empiries
  60. [4:22 PM] King Murdoc: there's a fucktillion tiny ones that are protectorates and stuff
  61. [4:30 PM] King Murdoc: to give you an idea
  62. [4:30 PM] King Murdoc: http://prntscr.com/heg18b
  63. [4:31 PM] King Murdoc: this is unions mapmode right now
  64. [4:31 PM] King Murdoc: turns out a few of my protectorates are also just
  65. [4:31 PM] King Murdoc: my color
  66. [4:31 PM] King Murdoc: http://prntscr.com/heg1wu this is no unions
  67. [4:32 PM] King Murdoc: http://prntscr.com/heg268 the prossnaks have a history of a professional relationship with the taarg
  68. [4:33 PM] King Murdoc: while at the time we're talking they weren't a client state yet, they were one of the few states that wasn't openly hostile toward the council and one of the big reasons they continued to survive
  69. [4:35 PM] King Murdoc: http://prntscr.com/heg2u8 the bokasherans were pretty actively hostile for a long time, since they were a spiritualist megacorporation. They were eventually invaded and broken up, with their remnants being slowly absorbed by the council; at this time, though, they were an active threat and allied with the tumbator.
  70. [4:38 PM] King Murdoc: http://prntscr.com/heg3j4 tumbator confederation of suns is probably the council's oldest enemy. They controlled a sizable portion of the galaxy before an AI rebellion (supported basically openly by the Council, who had synthetically ascended at that point) broke their territory in half. They also lost a chunk of their territory fairly on when it was liberated by the Council, which became the Allied Tumbator States, a loyal ally and eventually client state
  71. [4:40 PM] King Murdoc: http://prntscr.com/heg4t9 Kithri Pious Sovereignty ended up allying with the Tumbator, but took quite a long time to become openly hostile. As of now their territory is largely untouched, since as pacifists they never pursued a war of aggression on their own against the Council - but that didn't stop them from supporting the wars of the Tumbator and Bokasherans.
  72. [4:42 PM] King Murdoc: http://prntscr.com/heg5h6 dorbolan peacekeepers awakened pretty early; they were good friends of the Council for a long time but eventually became hostile after they refused to sign the treaty; this was one of the only cases of Taarg-Tumbator cooperation, as they sponsored the independance of their then-numerous signatories.
  73. [4:44 PM] King Murdoc: http://prntscr.com/heg68d the uthonian watchers were around at the time you're talking about and were unfriendly to. . . everyone, but mostly the tumbator and the taarg; the former because they tried to settle a holy world and the latter because they were cyborgs and later synth ascended. They were eventually annexed entirely by the Dorbolan.
  74. [4:46 PM] King Murdoc: http://prntscr.com/heg78o the vivisandia are almost completely extinct, though at the time you're looking at they still clashed with the kithri frequently; they weren't really that notable except for being an isolationist FE
  75. [4:46 PM] King Murdoc: RP-wise [the Taarg] were friendly explorers and scientists
  76. [4:46 PM] Shiina 'Misha' Mikado: this ought to be hilarious
  77. [4:47 PM] King Murdoc: and one of the least xenophobic civs out there except for the kithri
  78. [4:47 PM] King Murdoc: (and the observers ofc)
  79. [4:47 PM] King Murdoc: and also had hard times adapting to other worlds
  80. [4:47 PM] King Murdoc: so if you did actually want to center it on them it'd make sense
  81. [4:47 PM] King Murdoc: they also had a shitton of loyal protectorates and uplifted species
  82. [4:47 PM] King Murdoc: had/have
  83. [4:48 PM] King Murdoc: Including the Awoken
  84. [4:48 PM] Twinwolf: I can see them sorta like these mysterious science guys in my head
  85. [4:48 PM] Twinwolf: And eventually mysterious ultra-advanced robots
  86. [4:49 PM] King Murdoc: oh they were slow breeders too
  87. [4:50 PM] King Murdoc: i figured it was more the party was hired by them to do X
  88. [4:53 PM] Twinwolf: I mean
  89. Solymr could just take GM-liberties with the setting and like "also if you wanna play humans they're one of the many minor nations"
  90. [4:54 PM] BOTPalantir: <Clonymr> well km did like to uplift species
  91. [4:56 PM] King Murdoc: what twin said
  92. [4:56 PM] King Murdoc: sanctuary is also in the game
  93. [4:56 PM] King Murdoc: which has like
  94. [4:56 PM] King Murdoc: a billion pre-ftl species
  95. [4:57 PM] King Murdoc: the minor nations thing
  96. [4:57 PM] King Murdoc: http://prntscr.com/hegbiv also bonus: my current fleet
