  4. Why are you taking the TOEFL? What score are you trying to get?
  5.
  6. Three versions:
  7. paper-based (310-677) - reading and listening
  8. computer-based (0-300) - reading, listening, and writing
  9. internet-based (iBT - 0-120) - reading, listening, speaking, and writing
  10.
  11. Each iBT section is 30 points
  12. Reading: 3-4 passages (only 3 will count toward your score, the possible 4th is when they are “trying out” a new possibility for future tests)
  13. 20 minutes for each passage (so 60-80 minutes total), 12-14 questions each
  14. Listening: 2-3 “sets”, each set is 2 lectures and 1 conversation, 5-6 questions each
  15. 60-90 minutes total (if you have long reading, you’ll have short listening, and vice versa)
  16. 15-minute break
  17. Speaking: 2 independent, 2 reading/listening/speaking, 2 listening/speaking (about 20 minutes)
  18. Writing: 1 independent (30 minutes), 1 integrated (with reading/listening, 20 minutes)
  19.
  20. (This information is on p. XXIII (23) in your handout.)
  21. (I=1, V=5, X=10, L=50, C=100, D=500, M=1000)
  22. ---
  23. Homework: XXXIV-XXXV (34-35) Read the suggestions for how to prepare for and take the TOEFL test. (Maybe quiz tomorrow?)
