  3. An oddity among Arcadian-style weaponry, this two-handed sword carries a single edge and a gentle backward curve close to its point. Created to take advantage of loopholes in sword regulations, the messer is a type of long knife that carries the proportions of a sword - and this one is a massive one at that. The grosse messer's blade has been created with the Wootz process of creating patterned layers of crystallized carbon within the steel via a process of folding and pattern welding. Its appearance has taken on the dark, wavy pattern such steel is known for. This gives the weapon superior cutting power, as its edge forms millions of microscopic serrations when properly honed, allowing it to shear straight through metal. Despite its proportions, it's been superbly balanced, able to be used effectively in one or two hands, and has a complex swept-wire hilt that assists with parrying and binding a foe's own blades. The steel has been entirely blued, so as to prevent corrosion, giving the metal a smooth black finish.
