  1. Kainé (depicted in blue) is a foul-mouthed woman who got her... vocabulary from her equally foul-mouthed grandmother Kali. As a child, she was bullied for being different- she was born intersex, and the rest of the village (an extremely superstitious village that isn't very friendly or open to outsiders) chased her and her grandmother out for the fact that Kainé was born different. Her early life was spent being physically bullied, having stones thrown at her, and the other kids in the village made it known they despised her and thought of her as a freak. After all; because she was different, they thought bad things woul happen. Kainé understood this, and ever since thought of herself as a "curse" and a "freak" because after all- if she wasn't born, her parents would still be alive, wouldn't they?
  2. The illustration takes place well over five years later. Kali was murdered by a monstrous beast, and Kainé has lost her arm, leg, and eye trying to save her grandmother. It was through Tyrann she was able to keep living and fighting, swearing to avenge her grandmother.
  3. Kainé wasn't very open to the idea of outsiders- after all, no one else in her village was, and as far as she was concerned *everyone* saw her as a freak. But she didn't care.
  4. After her deal with Tyrann, her years were spent brutally murdering others to sate his bloodlust. She doesn't have the self-worth and only wants to live to avenge her grandma. Once that's done, she'd be content to die where she lay. After all, that's what she wants;
  5. Freedom from burdens. Freedom from life.
  6.
  7. Kusanagi (illustrated in red) is an outsider, a skilled tactician and assassin (if necessary) with military sxperience who likes to get lost in the occasional book or poem and thinks often about philosophical topics. Highly intelligent, she's able to easily solve multiple difficult situations and knows how to spot a paradox- and even answer some of the more difficult questions related to identity and the soul.
  8. She is referred to by those who serve under her as "The Major" among other nicknames. Experienced in guerilla warfare, and having seen more than her fair share of death; she's the first individual to show Kainé appreciation or even affection, and constantly rebukes the claims that Kainé is a "freak."
  9. She doesn't care that Kainé is loud, vulgar, violent, and honestly quite cold. She cares about the glimpses of a normal girl she gets to see, such as when she gifted Kainé the pendant that matches hers. She saw Kainé still liked pretty things, she still wanted to sppear feminine and beautiful and to Kusanagi that's exactly what she is. The Major treats Kainé with mutual kindness, but it often becomes apparent that she adores Kainé, since Kainé survived so much that others simply would not. She mirrors Kali's wishes and doesn't want anything but the best for Kainé, and often has trouble reciprocating affection (not that she minds, it's understandable!)
