- Alrighty.
- For the record can you state your ckey for me?
- HuivnToday at 6:44 PM
- huivn
- FlamingoToday at 6:45 PM
- Excellent. This interview will consist of two parts. The first part will be a series of scenarios one might encounter whilst moderating ingame. The second will be a number of personal questions. If at any time I say something you don’t understand, feel free to stop me and ask questions.
- HuivnToday at 6:45 PM
- 'Kay
- FlamingoToday at 6:45 PM
- Before we launch into the first question, are you familiar with the powers a moderator has ingame?
- HuivnToday at 6:46 PM
- Tempbans including job bans. They can look at vars as well, right?
- But not edit them.
- Oh and notes.
- FlamingoToday at 6:50 PM
- Yep; they can’t edit vars but can view them. Ability to aghost, view ingame logs, place and edit notes, warnings, bans.
- HuivnToday at 6:50 PM
- Basic stuff.
- FlamingoToday at 6:51 PM
- Essentially yes.
- Let’s start with the first question then.
- You’re hanging out on server when you see a message: “Donald J. Trump, Assistant, is inbound from NTCC Odin!” What do you do?
- HuivnToday at 6:52 PM
- Ping them, tell them that they can't have celebrity names, and ask what their new name should be.
- FlamingoToday at 6:53 PM
- You send them a message, but they don’t seem to have seen it, or aren’t otherwise responding. They’ve taken to opening every locker they come across while yelling “BUILD THE WALL” in all caps over the radio.
- HuivnToday at 6:55 PM
- Well, first I would die just a bit inside, and then freeze them. If they keep ignoring my messages or log off, 24 hour ban, or going by whatever standard template ban you guys use for people who just log off after they're pinged
- Oh and admin cryo, if you guys have that
- FlamingoToday at 7:48 PM
- Mc sounds good! Let’s try something else. You’re hanging out alone on server when suddenly you get a flood of logs. Two people are beating eachother to death. A quick check reveals neither are antagonists, as it’s extended.
- HuivnToday at 7:50 PM
- Wait until it's over, as it may not actually be to death, and they may have just both forgotten to pull their punches or something, and then ask them both what's going on after, compare their stories to vars and logs, and go from there.
- FlamingoToday at 8:11 PM
- At first it seems pretty non violent, but one of them pulls out a crowbar halfway through, and the other pulls a butterfly knife. They’re still going at it. Do you want to step in or still wait?
- (Should be back for good now fortunately!)
- HuivnToday at 8:12 PM
- Yeah, once they start using weapons, freeze 'em both. Then continue on as before.
- FlamingoToday at 8:14 PM
- Cool. The first guy is a cargo technician. He tells you he was just minding his own business in cargo when he asked the engineer to come help him fix some stuff. The engineer was being really rude and shoved him, so he started hitting him, and eventually he pulled out a crowbar.
- The other guy, an engineer, says he was trying to order some stuff from cargo and the cargo tech kept refusing to send the shuttle. They eventually got into a fight and the cargo tech pulled out a crowbar while they were punching so he whipped out his butterfly knife.
- HuivnToday at 8:17 PM
- Check the logs to see if the conversation actually took place, and who attacked first, as well as who pulled a weapon first.
- FlamingoToday at 8:18 PM
- You poke your head back in the logs but the conversation seems pretty minimal. The engineer was being a bit abrasive but he didn’t do more than call the cargo tech stupid. He definitely shoved the cargo tech first and the rest of the fight escalated as they both said.
- HuivnToday at 8:22 PM
- Try to make the engineer realize that they are playing a grown adult, who probably shouldn't physically fight over such petty things. Also let the engineer know that they probably shouldn't just be carrying around a butterfly knife for basically no reason.
- It's a waste of delicious plasteel
- FlamingoToday at 8:23 PM
- The engineer says he wasn’t trying to fight him, he just shoved him out of the way for getting up in his face and refusing to send his order. He says he keeps the knife just Incase stuff like this happens and he doesn’t want to get killed.
- HuivnToday at 8:24 PM
- Hang on. Why the fuck was the cargo tech in shoving range anyway? This really sounds like a terrible cargo tech.
- FlamingoToday at 8:27 PM
- Who knows.
- HuivnToday at 8:27 PM
- But yeah, uhh, still probably don't make the knife if there's no known threat. If no other reason than if he gets caught it could be his job. Also, remind him that complaining to the HoP or QM or captain is probably going to be more effective and actually get his order in
- FlamingoToday at 8:28 PM
- The engineer says alright, he can do that in the future. Is there anything else you’d like to do?
- HuivnToday at 8:29 PM
- Try to figure out why the cargo tech wasn't fulfilling the order. Best place to start is to ask them
- FlamingoToday at 8:29 PM
- They said the engineer refused to help them fix some broken windows so he was refusing to send the order until he helped.
- HuivnToday at 8:31 PM
- Ask if the windows are into space.
- FlamingoToday at 8:32 PM
- They’re not, they’re just some windows the miners smashed up between cargo and the refinery.
- HuivnToday at 8:33 PM
- Look into the order history of the cargo terminal
- FlamingoToday at 8:33 PM
- The order is there isn’t just not approved
- HuivnToday at 8:33 PM
- What is it though?
- FlamingoToday at 8:34 PM
- It’s for some random odds and ends. Tesla coils, an extra voidsuit, and another TEG circulator.
- HuivnToday at 8:36 PM
- Remind the cargo tech that, as long as someone is paying for it or the need is immediate, they are more or less obligated to fulfill any legitimate orders.
- FlamingoToday at 8:38 PM
- They say the engineer could have fixed the windows, or just bugged their boss if it was so important instead of calling them stupid and shoving them. He just wants the cargo bag to be intact after all.
- HuivnToday at 8:40 PM
- Yeah, so looks like just let them both off with a warning.
- FlamingoToday at 8:41 PM
- Alrighty sounds good. I’ve got just one more before we move on to the second half.
- HuivnToday at 8:41 PM
- Cool
- FlamingoToday at 8:42 PM
- You’re sitting in the lobby (alone) when suddenly you get an ahelp reading “HELP GANK!”
- HuivnToday at 8:42 PM
- aghost and teleport to them
- FlamingoToday at 8:43 PM
- You hop in and jump over to them. They’re an engineer on the solars, and it appears they’ve been shot by the mercenary team. They’re bleeding out on the ground and are unconscious. The mercenary team is moving up towards them. The round timer is at 0:24
- HuivnToday at 8:48 PM
- An unfortunate situation to be in. Tough call as to whether it's gank. They're in space, so they can't really verbally roleplay, and aiming at the engineer and making them get out of the way is an unnessecary risk
- I'll say it's not gank though. Apologise to the engineer, and if they get really salty remind them about the complaints forum
- FlamingoToday at 8:49 PM
- They seem pretty upset but seem to accept it. Is there anything else you’d like to do?
- HuivnToday at 8:50 PM
- I can't allow respawns as a mod, and anything else to help them out would be meta, so no.
- FlamingoToday at 8:52 PM
- Cool. Let’s move onto the personal questions section. This usually is a lot shorter but could go a bit longer depending on responses.
- First question: In your application you said the administration team needed more moderators who knew how to have fun (being blunt). Can you expand on this? How do you feel the team as a whole could improve? If you could change one aspect, what would it be?
- HuivnToday at 8:53 PM
- I literally have a screenshot of Shadow telling me he doesn't believe in the Rule of Cool. That's actually what inspired me to do this in the first place.
- To clarify, that's basically the idea that if something is cool, and allows interesting things to happen, even if the methods used are of...dubious believability, then they should be allowed.
- As long as no one's experience is damaged in the process, of course
- FlamingoToday at 8:55 PM
- Makes sense. Anything else you’d like to add?
- HuivnToday at 8:55 PM
- Nah.
- FlamingoToday at 8:57 PM
- Cool. Another question then: If your application is moved to the trial phase, you will sometimes face difficult situations where you may be required to dole out punishment or some such to friends. This is always difficult as it can cause strain on friendships. Is this something you’d be prepared to handle?
- HuivnToday at 8:58 PM
- Yep. I've had to do it before, and I've been on the recieving end of such situations.
- Also I don't think I've made any friends here who still play SS13 at all
- FlamingoToday at 9:00 PM
- Sounds good.
- You indicated in your application that you used to be a full administrator on a fallout 13 server. Are you still staff on another server currently? (We have a general policy against double dipping staff for aurora as it splits focus).
- HuivnToday at 9:00 PM
- That server is dead, and has been for a very long time
- It sort of...imploded when Godsring took over. Good times.
- FlamingoToday at 9:01 PM
- I wouldn’t know. I exclusively play Aurora (and the occasional cm round)
- HuivnToday at 9:01 PM
- GOON is my guilty pleasure server, personally.
- FlamingoToday at 9:03 PM
- Alright probably™ the final question: You’ve had a couple run ins with staff in recent memory that left a bit of a sour taste in their mouths. Specifically, times when you’ve been overly salty. I believe once was during a ninja round, and another was during an ahelp about injecting sedatives into people as a CMO. This is more a general question about how you feel about that, anything you’d like to say, and how you feel it should/will affect your application.
- HuivnToday at 9:05 PM
- Now I remember what you're talking about
- It wasn't sedatives, it was wordlessly implanting sec with death alarms
- FlamingoToday at 9:06 PM
- That might be it. I wasn’t present for the interaction I simply heard second hand.
- HuivnToday at 9:06 PM
- Yeah, that was really low RP. Dunno what was going through my head.
- I do use sedatives a lot though. Like a lot. Whenever medbay is even maybe possibly potentially threatened
- Chloral
- Jack don't play that shit
- He protects himself and his doctors like a father protecting their children.
- FlamingoToday at 9:08 PM
- The CMO’s greatest weapon. Though I do advice caution when dealing with sedatives. Some CMOs have landed in hot water for overuse.
- The other incident had to do with being validhunted during a round of (ninja I think it was?) reports that you were salty in looc instead of ahelping about it. Do you remember anything about this one?
- This is just what was relayed to me so I am not sure how accurate it is.
- HuivnToday at 9:09 PM
- Again, your info is only slightly off
- It was vampire, and I said literally one thing. "Fuck you for validhunting." iirc
- I was LEGENDARILY salty though
- I don't generally expect to get borged while being an only somewhat aggressive vampire
- FlamingoToday at 9:11 PM
- I see. Still, you understand how that sort of thing wouldn’t be a good look for a moderator?
- HuivnToday at 9:12 PM
- Oh, absolutely. Such things happen occasionally. It's all part of playing the game.
- You can't play SS13 and never get mad over anything. That's part of the fun.
- FlamingoToday at 9:13 PM
- Well, that should conclude this section of the interview! I suppose the final question is, is it alright if I post your interview to your application thread?
- Or would you prefer it be kept within staff channels?
- HuivnToday at 9:13 PM
- Do it.
- FlamingoToday at 9:13 PM
- Cool
