  1. Anon walks the neon-lit blacktop of the night city. Flashing lights and advertisements blare at him as a gentle rain falls from the dreary night sky. He walks with his hands in his pockets, tucked warmly in his leather jacket. He stops at an old bench in front of an intersection and sits, his hands still tucked away. He eyes the area around him, looking for nothing. Anon changes the track on his cassette player and watches the large neon sign flare in front of him. The street, barren with cars, was a canvas of black and yellow underneath a rainbow of pink, black and blue. Anon quickly surveys the area again, then unbuckles the holster of his pistol. He checks the magazine, making sure it was full. He polishes the frame with a handkerchief he kept in his pocket. The weapon had been his only companion as he’d lived his life. It had saved him more times than he could count and had never betrayed him. He felt obligated to show it a little respect, so he wipes the gun clean one more time.
  2. As anon looks up, he notices the large neon sign start to flicker out, then shut off completely. As this happens, the streetlights begin to shut off one by one, each with an echoing *click*. The pavement, which was once glowing with the buzz of the city, has turned a quiet black. The rain almost seems to harden to ice as the wind chills around our hero. As the wind whistles through the buildings, he can almost hear a faint “Ahaha~” behind him. Anon sighs and gets up from his seat, his pistol in his hand. He looks at each one of the streetlamps, inspecting each one for signs of his target.
  3. “Come on Anon, you know how this goes already.” A voice can be heard throughout the city, resonating in Anon’s ears. It was a voice lost to time, but familiar to him nonetheless.
  4. “Yeah, so why don’t we quit the games? Come on out, you deranged bat.” Anon removes the knife from his belt and places it in his right hand. The blade was forged by his old friend Yuri. Expertly crafted, the silver-tinged blade shined like a trophy in the pitch-black of the night.
  5. “But Anon, where’s the fun in that? Ahaha~” That laugh sent tingles down Anon’s spine. He knew what he was here to do, he had attempted it multiple times, but he still had that fear in him. The fear of that laugh, of her. That fear resonated within Anon’s body, and he fought it desperately, because he knew he was the only one who could.
  6. Anon looks to the rooftop, and sure enough, Monika is standing there, pen in hand, a body in the other. Out of her back sprouts two giant, black, bat-like wings, and she swoops down in front of Anon to meet him.
  7. “Nice to see you again, Honey.” Monika giggles a bit, then strides to him. Anon’s grip on his pistol tightens, his finger moving to the trigger.
  8. “Ah ah ah, I don’t want to start on the main course just yet.” In a flash, Monika is behind Anon, and he slashes behind with his dagger. Monika swiftly dodges, and backs off, dropping the body at Anon’s feet.
  9. “Oops, I meant to save her as a snack for later, oh well.” Monika disappears into the shadows again as Anon rushes to his friend.
  10. “Sayori, are you alright? Did she bite you?”
  11. “Anon…” Sayori puts her hand to his face. She gives a weak smile, as a tear forms in the corner of her eye.
  12. “I’m really sorry, she got me. I tried to run away, but she was too fast.”
  13. “It’s alright, I’ve got you, there’s no need to worry.” Anon smiles reassuringly, hoping for the best.
  14. “Anon, you know better… Ehehe, I’m such a dummy...” Sayori takes Anon’s free hand and moves it to her side. He feels her blood running into his hand, and he starts to tear up.
  15. “Sayori… We can fix this, we can get you back to Natsuki, she can patch you back up it’s going to be ok-“
  16. Sayori’s head cocks backwards towards the ground. Her single tear falls from her eye and leaves her, along with her life. Anon says nothing and lays her on the ground. He gets up, a new look in his eyes that scream for justice.
  17. “What, did she mean something to you? Was she really that important to you? Honestly Anon, you should really pick better companions. One of these days…” Monika appears behind Anon again, this time with her mouth just touching Anon’s neck.
  18. “It’s going to come back and bite you.~” Monika goes to bite Anon’s neck, but stops and jumps away. Sniffing the air, Monika scoffs and cringes from a distance.
  19. “I see you’re more prepared this time.” Monika wafts the air with her hand and plugs her nose.
  20. Anon fires his gun at her, and Monika dodges. “But let me ask, Anon… how much pain can you take this time?” Monika charges him, flying across the ground. Anon slashes at her with her knife, and she dodges again, cutting across his face.
  21. Anon fires bullet after bullet, each of them going around Monika as she circles around him. She swirls in the air, then comes in for another slash. Anon dodges this one, and cuts Monika across the face with his dagger. She howls in pain, then backs off.
  22. “You’ve gotten pretty good since we last fought, Anon.” She giggles again, then appears before him. Anon shoots and misses once more. Monika laughs. “It seems you’re still as shit of a shot as ever, though!” She claws at his face repeatedly, scarring Anon more and more as she continues her assault. Anon tries circling around her, but Monika is too fast for him. Anon eventually falls to the ground, face bloodied and battered from Monika.
  23. Monika stops. “Alright, I’ve had my fun. It’s time I finished you off for good.” Monika rushes in, fangs bared, when suddenly Anon grabs her by the jaw.
  24. “Funny,” Anon grinned. “I was just thinking the same thing.” Anon flicks the last bit of blood off his face, completing the circle on the ground.
  25. “You think this will stop me? You think you can pin me like this?” Monika goes to move, but every time she does, she feels as if chains are binding her to the pavement.
  26. “What… you, what did you do?!” Monika is frozen in place, as Anon wraps the rosary in his hand around Monika’s neck.
  27. “The thing about us hunters is,” Anon chuckles through the pain, hacking blood out of his mouth. “We’re full of surprises. And you just fell for one” Anon slowly puts his gun to her head, a look of animalistic rage in his eyes.
  28. “Baby, Anon wait, I-I can change! I won’t kill anyone else! This doesn’t have to be this way! Anon, please!“ With a bang, Anon pulls the trigger. The demon in his hands falls on top of his lap. He sighs again, then gets up.
  29. Anon checks the bullets in his gun. Two left, he thought to himself. He looks over to Sayori, who is slowly getting up. With a low growl, Sayori looks at him like a starving lion looks at prey. Before Sayori has time to charge, he fires his gun again, putting the poor girl out of her misery.
  30. “No.” Anon murmurs under his breath. “Not… not again.”
  31. Anon falls to his knees, then sits down on the pavement. As the city starts to come to life from the rising sun, he takes a cigar from his breast pocket and a lighter.
  32. “I’m getting tired of this shit.” Anon says as he lights the end of his cigar. He puffs the drug, then pulls out his radio.
  33. “Mission clear. Heading back now.”
  34. “And Sayori?” A quiet, but elegant voice speaks from the other side.
  35. Anon pauses for a long time. “Sayori turned. She’s been taken care of too.”
  36. Another long pause. “Alright. I’m sorry. Natsuki’ll be there in a second to pick you up. You know the rendezvous point. Over.” The radio clicks, signaling Anon it was time to move out. He looks to the morning sky, the gently rising sun radiating it’s hope for tomorrow. As he gets up, he doesn’t turn his back, nor does he cry. He simply keeps walking, waiting for the next job.
