- Sean Anderson partners with his mom's husband on a mission to find his grandfather, who is thought to be missing on a mythical island.
- After going to the center of the earth, 17-year-old Sean Andeson goes on a journey to find The Mysterious Island, a legend discovered by Jules Vern. Assisted by his stepfather, Hank, the pair team up with a helicopter pilot and his beautiful daughter to find Sean's lost grandfather, whom Sean believes is on the island. The team encounters monsters, witty remarks, and a deadly conflict along the way.
- Yes, Jules Verne must be rolling over in his grave, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun watching this flick...as long as all you're expecting is fun.<br/><br/>If you're expecting the slightest dose of a serious theme, forget it. There is, however, loads of excitement (fake as it may be CGI) and some good laughs.<br/><br/>If you're expecting a lesson in good parenting...forget it. In fact, that may be my biggest complaint in this whole film -- stepfather allowing son to rule the roost, skip school, and put their lives in peril...all in the name of bonding. Minor plot changes could have resulted in an example of good parenting, and it wouldn't have detracted one bit from the plot.<br/><br/>In terms of the acting, one of the things I like about Dwayne Johnson is that he doesn't take himself too seriously...and that helps in this film because there's not any deep acting here...just fun. Josh Hutcherson as the son...well, what's the attraction here? Part of the problem is that the kid's a total jerk, but I wouldn't say he's any great shakes as an actor, either. Of course it's nice to see Michael Caine (as the long-lost grandfather also the father; and very much looking his age of 80), but this is yet another example of how Caine mixes films that are of no real value with the occasional role in which he's exceptional (this is the former, not the latter). Vanessa Hudgens is pleasant enough as the boy's love interest, and Luis Guzman is mostly funny as the slightly sleazy helicopter tour guide who gets dragged into the adventure.<br/><br/>The computer graphics special effects are quite stunning, although sometimes things look just a little too wonderful...this isn't Oz, but a jungle island.<br/><br/>So, be ready for some fun, just don't plan to take things too seriously. After all, the scenarios in the film must have dreamed up by a 12 year old.
- Okay, I'm going to be honest. This movie was okay. Visuals - 9 Acting - 8 Script - 6 Storyline - 4<br/><br/>I wanted to watch this film because of mainly - 'Vanessa Hudgens', 'Josh Hutcherson' and the Rock. All one of many favorite actors and actresses. I also went to see it because of the first movie. It was alright, not the best, but alright. And seeing this movie I didn't have much expectations. But when I came in, wow. The visuals were amazing! The characters were interesting (especially Vanessa). Although I though her dad was abit cliché and over-the-top. The movie has heart but when it comes down to the story, it was a no no. Who the hell goes to an island and then finds out it's going to sink in 2 days? Coincidence? I think not. And so the film-makers made a movie about a group of people going to a 'Mysterious Island' and then trying to escape. With a submarine... and when they say 'Atlantis' sinks every thousand years or so and the water starts crashing in, wouldn't the stone and buildings of Atlantis crumble and be demolished by the waves? And every other thousand years after it magically re-appears all nice and shiny again. <br/><br/>6.
- The look of the film is impressive, as are the effects. Overall, however, it's a big, loud, 3-D-drenched jumble.
- It is considered a sequel to <a href="/title/tt0373051/">Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008)</a> (2008) as the character of Sean Anderson is in both films, but the story is completely different with a whole new adventure so you don't have to see the first one to understand this one. Yes. A short called "Daffy's Rhapsody" is shown along with the movie in theaters. It takes the 1950 Capitol Record song "The Daffy Duck Rhapsody", sung by legendary Mel Blanc, and puts animation to it. Coincidentally, the short is falling on Daffy Duck's 75th anniversary, as the character debuted in 1937. (1) The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne, (2) Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, and (3) Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. The three books all pertain to islands, and all three of the books shown in the film contain a partial map within the first few pages of the books. When the maps are placed on top of each other (with the compass points lined up to north) and a light is shone from beneath, the full map and coordinates of Verne's "Mysterious Island" are revealed. a5c7b9f00b
