Pokemon White 2 Any% FAQ

Q: What do you play this game on?
A: I play on an original Nintendo DS with a capture board installed into it.

Q: What are you trying to do?
A: Beat Pokemon White 2 as fast as possible.

Q: Are there any glitches used in this category?
A: If you consider it a glitch, we teach Heat Crash over Rollout and are still able to use Rollout while we're locked into it. Other than that, there are no useful glitches used during the run.

Q: Why do you choose Tepig?
A: The Tepig evolution family is the best for the speedrun.

Q: Why don't you check Tepigs stats? What are Tepigs stats like?
A: Tepigs stats are all 31 IVs as well as Naughty nature if I do the same movement every time at the beginning of the game. So I have no reason to check as long as I did everything properly.

Q: Who else do you use on the run
A: We generally have a large amount of variety when it comes to what we can get on this run. For example, Pidove, Zubat, and Ducklett can be used for a Fly slave. Psyduck, Azuril, and Ducklett can be used as a Surf slave. Lastely, Pignite, and Psyduck can be used as a Strength slave. We also eventually switch off main's from Pignite to Drilbur as well once we reach Burgh.

Q: Why did you switch to Drilbur and not use Tepig the entire game?
A: Drilbur is just outright faster. His stats, movepool, and strategies you can pull off with him are quite a few minutes faster than what Tepig can pull off.

Q: Will Drilbur/Excadrill's stats be manipulated?
A: Yes! I manipulate both the dust cloud appearance and Drilbur's stats at the same time. The Drillbur will be female, level 18, adamant nature, and 31 in all stats except Special attack.

Q: How does this compared to Challenge Mode?
A: All of the Gym Leaders and E4 are much quicker (1 less poke, and also lower IVs, worse moves/items), but all of the standard trainers are a little bit harder, since you're slightly lower level.

Q: Why do you keep resetting and changing the time?
A: I need to use a specific time in order to use RNG manipulation, so I set the clock in such a way that I can use it. The timer counts down to when I need to start the game for the correct second.

Q: What causes the resets?
A: I likely missed initial starting seed. There are 2 ways to check whether I hit the correct seed:
1) After setting my and my rivals name, the game sets up a save. At this point, there is a "clock hand" that rotates clockwise. Where it starts is determined by the seed. So I know that unless it starts by pointing Left, I missed it
2) I check the movement of the NPCs in Aspertia City. Because their movement is derived from the RNG, I can tell I hit it based on their movements. This is used as a second check, most runs that get to this check will progress.

Hitting the seed is only based off the second, not the frame in gen 5, so it's a lot easier to hit than it is in gen 3/4. However there is another mechanic at play, the "Timer0" fluctuates seemingly randomly, and is what causes the inconsistencies.

Q: Can I do the exact same manipulation you do to get a perfect starter?
A: No. Everyone has to route their own Tepig, encounters, and Drilbur, as the Seeds you can work with are based around your DS Mac Address which is unique to each Nintendo DS.

Q: Why White 2 and not Black 2?
A: Black 2 has an extra trainer in Reversal mountain, Charles is a Rotation battle instead of Triple, etc. Other stuff is different too but basically White 2 is better in every way.

Q: Why do you play as the girl?
A: She has my favorite design out of every Pokemon trainer ever.

Q: Why do you play as the boy?
A: He looks like a pineapple.

Q: Why is your rival named Hug? Isn't that slower than naming him H?
A: Your rivals name is originally Hugh. I basically erase to h at the end to make it hilarious. In terms of speed the text scrolls so fast in this game that it's likely not a time waste to keep it as Hugh or Hug.

Q: Why don't you nickname Tepig or your HM Slaves?
A: Since text moves quite fast in this game, unless I use Tepig as my main him and any HM slaves I use aren't used enough to make nicknaming worth the time loss.
