  1. Submit.PW Palau Domain?
  2. Ahref intersect report is showing many of my competitors on multiple .pw domains. They have little domain authority. But interesting to find many of them on there. It's a directory backlink service. Is there any potential upside or just potential downside? Is the only value in that it just gives a clear indication which competitors are using Spammy SEO Service Providers?

  15. @seotophat did you end up using this service?
  16.
  17. Amazon is one of the fastest-growing companies of all time. It achieves this growth by rapidly updating its services based on continual feedback from data.
  18.
  19. Expect change, but don’t let the lack of continuity disrupt your day-to-day practice.
  20.
  21. Arm yourself with complete awareness of how the landscape is changing, but be strategic in how you filter that knowledge to inform your decision making.
  22.
  23. Some changes will be extremely important. Most will not. Focus on your overall strategy, and then incorporate changes within that over time.

  32. For episode 168 of The Search Engine Journal Show, I had the opportunity to interview Amy Bishop, Owner and Marketing Consultant at Cultivative.
  33.
  34. Bishop talks about audience targeting in paid search – what features exist, the types of reports to leverage, and what PPC marketers need to know to succeed.
  35.
  36. Audience Targeting in Paid Search with Amy Bishop
  37.
  38. How would you define audience targeting to somebody who might not know much about it?
  39.
  40. Amy Bishop (AB): Audience targeting is really important because as the industry evolves, we’re seeing looser match types. This means a heavier reliance on audiences will likely
  41.
  42. be more prevalent in the future as a way of making sure that you’re hitting that right target.
  43.
  44. There are a couple of different audiences that are available to search marketers and they really fall into two different buckets.
  45.
  46. There are third-party audiences including:
  47.
  48. In-market audiences are the audiences that are built off of folks that have indicated through their behavior that they’re in the market for a certain product or service.
  49. Affinity audiences are a little bit more general. As Google would actually say about their own audiences, they’re meant to be more like the targeting options that you would have
  50.
  51. in broadcast media such as television.
  52. Then there are first-party audiences that we can build off of our own cookies.
  53.
  54. Last but not least, there are also similar audiences or lookalike audiences, depending on which platform you’re using, that will then allow you to find folks similar to the
  55.
  56. people that you have in your cookie pools.
  57.
  58. I like to create similar audiences just for the very best performing first party audiences. Otherwise, they can get a little bit too broad and a little bit too general and don’t
  59.
  60. necessarily perform as well.
  61.
  62. What are some of the options that people should really be paying attention to right now when it comes to audience targeting?
  63.
  64. AB: Beyond the audiences that you can apply into search, with Display or YouTube there are also custom intent audiences and they function a little bit different on YouTube and
  65.
  66. Display.
  67.
  68. On YouTube, you can use them as a form of search retargeting, which is powerful. You can target folks based upon the terms that they’ve recently searched for on Google.com.
  69.
  70. On Display, they’re a little bit more of like a contextual target, but it’s still a really good way to reach that audience.
  71.
  72. But beyond that, I also like to take a look at the buyer journey and just find ways to:
  73.
  74. Create audiences throughout the journey.
  75. Build out lists based upon priority pages and micro-conversions via Events and Goals and long buying cycles.
  76. I like to build audiences based upon active top-of-funnel campaigns so that I can also be sure to reengage those audiences and monitor the performance of those prospects that
  77.
  78. originated from those campaigns.
  79.
  80. If you’re looking for really the best audiences, I would say that it’s going to vary based upon your business. I like to use a lot of custom reports in Google Analytics to try
  81.
  82. to identify those audiences, analyzing things like:
  83.
  84. Average session duration.
  85. Page depth.
  86. Sessions to transaction.
  87. Session count.
  88. So for instance, at what page depth does the value seem to increase and then using that to define parameters for your audience.
  89.
  90. Also understanding things like:
  91.
  92. How many sessions does it usually take to convert somebody?
  93. How many days does it take to convert after that first visit?
  94. You can use that as a way to build audiences and as a benchmark to improve upon as well.
  95.
  96.
  97. The first reason is Google and Microsoft love data. They genuinely need it in order to operate and optimize and allocate budget and serve your ads and work with your keywords in
  98.
  99. an efficient way. And if you’re depriving the system of data, you’re making it actually harder for it to know that you are a reasonable advertiser and get those placements.
  100.
  101. The second reason is if I invest early, I am going to get a plethora of queries, auction prices and potential prospects that I can then audit and make decisions on whether I’m
  102.
  103. focusing in the right way.
  104.
  105. It’s almost always better to have a larger budget at the onset of a relationship then get the buy-in that you’re going to pull back, than to start off super small where you’ll
  106.
  107. have no data because then you can’t assess anything.
  108.
  109. What kind of meaningful decision will you make off of a hundred impressions and two clicks? You’re not.
  110.
  111. So it’s better to invest aggressively in the first month or two, but then know that you’re going to pull back and audit those queries.

  122. 4 Things That May Surprise You About Automated PPC Bidding
  123. Smart recommendations to make Google Ads profitable
  124. Opteo continuously monitors Google Ads accounts for statistically significant patterns. When something comes up, Opteo suggests an improvement backed up by real data. Opteo also
  125.
  126. helps monitor performance trends, track spending & get alerts when you need them.
  127.
  128. It’s no surprise that Google, with its massive capabilities in machine learning, is pushing hard to take as much control over PPC bid management as possible.
  129.
  130. They believe that by letting the machines handle number-crunching and pattern recognition, advertisers will get better results.
  131.
  132. And having more happy advertisers obviously helps the bottom line and makes Google and their investors happy, too.
  133.
  134. But when bids are automated, it does not mean that PPC is automated. Good news indeed for those of us worried about our future prospects as PPC rockstars.
  135.
  136. There are important things to know about automated bid management and I’m going to share a few here based on conversations with advertisers who expressed surprise when our tools
  137.
  138. and scripts uncovered some aspect of bid automation they were unaware of.
  139.
  140. 1. You Can Lose a Huge Impression Share (IS) with Automated Bids
  141.
  142. I’m not sure I can explain why, but some advertisers I speak with believe that once they turn on automated bidding from Google, the things they used to worry about in the past
  143.
  144. will all of a sudden take care of themselves.
  145.
  146. Impression Share is a good example.
  147.
  148. Advertisers on manual bidding monitor this metric as an indicator of missed opportunity.
  149.
  150. After they enable automated bidding, they stop monitoring it, and when their account later goes through a PPC audit, they are surprised to find there is a lot of lost IS.
