  15. Abstract
  16.
  17. In 1976 an unmanned NASA Viking spacecraft successfully
  18. photographed the surface of the planet Mars. In the subsequent 13
  19. years, a mystery has loomed . . . a mile-long, 1500-ft high humanoid
  20. "face" discovered in a northern Martian desert called "Cydonia."
  21. Initially dismissed by NASA as "a trick of light and shadow," new
  22. analysis presented here reveals a far more complex situation, and a
  23. far more significant conclusion:
  24.
  25. The "face" and its surrounding "enigmatic landforms" appear to be
  26. a carefully layed out, highly-sophisticated, redundantly encoded
  27. "mathematical and geometric CETI message" on the Martian landscape --
  28. in the tradition of century-old proposals by Gauss, Lockyer, et al..
  29.
  30. This paper presents the evidence whereby the authors have reached
  31. this "radical conclusion." We -- one of us a former NASA consultant,
  32. the other a geomorphologist -- detail the extensive geodedic and
  33. mathematical analysis of "the Face" we have conducted over the past
  34. several years: specifically, its geometric relationship to other,
  35. equally enigmatic objects in the immediate vicinity. This evidence
  36. includes multiple appearances of two specific mathematical constants:
  37. "e" and "pi," derived by angular measurement of the placement of key
  38. morphological objects around the "face" and the discovery of redundant
  39. angles and derived constants from that placement. We have also
  40. discovered the two constants -- "e" and "pi" -- "coded" in the
  41. geodedic siting latitude of the "complex" on the planet.
  42.
  43. It is this multiple, diversified, but converging geodedic,
  44. geometric and mathematical evidence that, in the authors' opinion, now
  45. robustly supports the "radical conclusion" presented above.
  46.
  47. The geometry and mathematical constants we have discovered at
  48. Cydonia appear to be a highly-specific communication of "embedded
  49. tetrahedral geometry." It's apparent purpose: the geometric
  50. prediction of a specific geodedic latitude -- 19.5 degrees N. and S. -
  51. - resulting from the location of the vertices of a "circumscribed
  52. tetrahedran" rotated inside a planetary or stellar sphere. This
  53. conclusion is reinforced by the geomorphological observation of a
  54. major "tetrahedral pyramid" at Cydonia -- connected geometrically (by
  55. a 19.5-degree angle offset to the local geodedic meridian) to equally
  56. obvious morphological representations of "spheres" at Cydonia itself.
  57.
  58. The purpose of all this appears to be to direct attention towards
  59. "something occurring at these two specific planetary latitudes." When
  60. examined by the authors, using published geodedic planetary maps from
  61. NASA and U.S Geological Survey sources, these latitudes are observed
  62. to be associated with a hitherto unknown planetary and stellar energy
  63. phenomenon -- blatantly emerging at these specific latitudes -- on
  64. astronomical objects all across the solar system, including the Sun.
  65. Further, the appearance of these "energy outpourings" seems to be
  66. modulated by the polarity of the planetary (or stellar) magnetic
  67. dipole moment -- raising, in the author's minds, the possibility that
  68. the "message" is attempting to direct us to a verifiable astrophysical
  69. manifestation of a basic, "unified field," connecting planetary
  70. angular momentum, gravity, and electromagnetism with surface energy
  71. release.
  72.
  73. The possibility that "the message" is directing us to, not merely
  74. energy transfer but energy generation, is also considered in this
  75. paper. Several convergent observations of the outer planets, most
  76. recently from Voyager 2, are presented to buttress our contention that
  77. we may be looking at a new astrophysically - significant form of
  78. energy. Evidence is also presented that some manifestations of this
  79. energy may be altering the local "gravitational space-time metric" --
  80. consistant with current theoretical interpretations of tetrahedral
  81. mathematics by specialists, as "representative of higher-dimensional
  82. n-spaces."
  83.
  84. The implications of these "real world" geophysical manifestations
  85. of "unified field tetrahedral mathematics" -- specific, localized
  86. energy release on planetary surfaces, apparently unrecognized until
  87. the "Cydonia tetrahedral mathematics" were decoded by the authors --
  88. are profound: ranging from a possible breakthrough in the centuries-
  89. long search for a Unified Field Theory connecting the four elemental
  90. forces of Nature; to possible technological applications of this
  91. knowledge -- including a new energy source, and possibly, ultimate
  92. control of gravity itself.
  93.
  94. We conclude by urging immediate verification of the "Cydonia
  95. Message," via the 1992 unmanned Mars Observer spacecraft, as well as
  96. detailed follow-up to our preliminary work presented here.
